It will be interesting to see if Obama attends the funeral of the tyrant, Fidel Castro after choosing to not attend that of Margaret Thatcher. Opinions welcome ;-)...it will be a cold day in Hell before our new Mr. Bigly heads to Cuba :)) This latest news just proves he can Drain the Swamp !

They started clearing early flight guests on board at 8.15. Airport is 10 mins away. When we flew today at 3.45 it was mobbed but it was also Saturday after Thanksgiving - a very busy travel day. Check in online and do bag drop to speed things up at airport

Good luck!.

Cruise was fantastic as always

Great crew, service; familiar and friendly faces.

Be careful what you wish for darling Contessa.

Oh so everyone else is sensible enough not to join the fray.

But when has Hum ever been sensible.

And what does Hum really know of US politics ?

Well Hum reads the papers (in which his fish and chip supper is wrapped when someone else has been lucky to have the section containing the Page 3 girl full frontal: "Scorching Susan" is always a treat).

It is a deranged view based on secondhand and dubious reports.

But Hum has never been that concerned about making informed and intelligent comments about anything (except wine).

So dearest chums, please do not get your knickers all bunched by the drivel that follows.

It is one idiots thoughts from abroad who has no leaning towards any political persuasion ("What did the Romans do for us").

OK Contessa, you won.

Now it's time to be charitable, magnanimous even.

Presidential.

Hum has faith.

You can do it (just.........if you try very hard, fingers crossed)

Hum still thinks the Yanks are sore about the "Bay of Pigs" (not their finest hour: really embarrassing actually). Never got over it.

Every American administration up to Obama has not had a clue how to make a relationship to this feisty proud country.

Now it's time to show YOU are a big, open hearted, encouragin' kind of country.

It's the start of a new era.

Go for it.

Let bygones be bygones.

At least he (T) can see the opportunity for a hotel in downtown Cubaville.

That's gotta interest him.

His fusion of political position and personal business advancement is not an issue for him. No it's a handy opportunity. What's wrong with doing a little business on the side ?

But please don't spoil this amazing, noble country and it's wonderful people.

Head for head, they are far better educated than it's biggest neighbour.

Oh and there is health care for all.

Even their big brother can't provide that (well they began to but this is promised to be scrapped or at least fundamentally changed).

Cuba are prime to join the international community.

Obama should go to say adios (but saying nought unlike Young Trudeau: oh my what a mess).

He went there back in March this year (first time since revolution) but Fidel didn't turn up (probably because he was ill. He saw others when he was ill though).

Churlish not to.

Opportunity for a new start although your man is likely to be very un-diplomatic and quite probably inflammatory too.

Nobody would be surprised.

Castro was a tyrant, yes.

He enslaved the Cuban people, yes.

But he was also leader of a proud country.

Disrespecting Castro would be seen as disrespecting Cuba and it's people.

And so all the good Obama did do on the world stage (and he did a lot) seems to be quickly being undone (and Hum includes the TPP trade deal which will simply allow China to extend its influence in its "backyard").

A pity and a great shame.

All because a man's ego got in the way and his "quick to judge" rash judgement based on shallow, pejorative evidence put before him by cronies suspicious of anybody who is not white and a male.

He is in a position where he should perform for the greater good.

Go beyond personal views and fixed attitudes.

Maybe he will.

He better start acting like a President from now on (early signs are not too bad though some big appointments show a reactionary attitude) rather than the petulant, uncouth, bully he had been in the previous two contests.

But boy he was captivating, still is.

In a "what will he say next" kinda way.

And yes of course, he resonated with the common man too.

Credit where credit's due.

And he WON.

Hopefully he will reward those that put his faith in him.

It is truly fascinating.

Hum wishes him well (as if that will make any difference).

Can't abide the whingers.

They lost, maybe deserved to lose.

Democratic Hillary wasn't trusted by enough.

Yes Hum knows about the popular vote.

In Britain she would have been President under the British Constitution.

Hum finds the US Constitution fascinating.

Now there are demands for that to change.

Guess who by ?

Yes, those that lost.

But yes, not attending Mrs. T's funeral was very poor show by Obama but maybe she had been out of the political limelight for too long.

We always had the feeling Obama wasn't that friendly to the Brits: loved Angela Merkel though (and why not, until she went mad. Germans have ALL* become mad too. Why ? They might re-elect her !).

*not the Baron of course

On a related point.

Hum is heartened to hear that the bronze bust of Winnie (Winston Churchill) is likely to return to the Oval Office when your man enters the White House (though there are rumours he doesn't think it works for him. In fact we also hear rumours that he is " bitchin' about the hours he is expected to do).

Winnie to replace Mandela then.

Funny Mandela's first wife was called Winnie (oh boy, she was trouble).

Mandela was an amazing man.

Saved South Africa from a potential "blood bath" and put South Africa on world stage. Sadly Zumba is an embarrassment and corrupt but at least not as bad as Mugabe.

There will be dancing in the streets when he finally "falls off the perch" !

Lesson: be a fanatical, selfish dictator and you will live into your 90's.

No it doesn't count just being one in your own home !

Though from small acorns, small acorns........

Oh Hum is feeling really full of himself ain't he.

Rhetorical.

Can't pass the opportunity to cringe at Canadian premier's creepy tribute to Fidel.

Doesn't he have any advisors ?

Yes Hum knows a few think he is ruddy marvellous, a kind of political Justin Bieber.

But oh boy......embarrassing.

Bigly.

The worst comment was when Trudeau called him Cuba’s longest-serving president. Well, Dictators do usually get to serve for awhile.

OK enough Hum.

So Contessa, how are the elite spending their winter ?

Pickled in Aspic again ?

Yes, Hum, Obama should (and will) attend Castro's funeral ... not as an homage to the brutal dictator

but as an olive branch of hope to the people of Cuba that better years are ahead. If not that, just

to piss off the Republicans.

It is folly to think, however, that much improvement in the area of human rights will occur as long as

Raul remains in power. You see, dictators derive their longevity by denying such basic rights coupled

with firm control of the military establishment.

While we wait for modest change, Cubans, as you say, are among the best educated in the world and

have a superior medical system. That should give pause for thought to their neighbors in the north.

And now, on to The Donald!

Imagine a guy, a B-actor at best, who has been plying the boards off (way

off) Broadway for years, who now finds himself in the lead in Otello at the

Old Vic. Daunting, eh?

This is the position the President-elect now finds himself, unsure

but replete with a false bravado that is anything but comforting to those

concerned with the future of their country. A man so confident in himself,

that he forgoes intelligence briefings given as a courtesy by Obama, as

unworthy of his time. Scary, eh?

Other than Mike Pompeo, I have concerns as to whether he is surrounding

himself with yes men and if so, we are in for a bumpy ride. There are those, and I have been among them, that say wait and see. Unfortunately,

once the horse has left the barn ... oh well, you know the rest.

I go back to Roosevelt's fourth term and can't recall any level of anxiety

the country has experienced with an incoming administration as great

as this. Lets all hope he can prove us wrong!

Whew, that was definitely an opinion.

We are spending our Winter on the slopes again and we are definitely "Pickled in Aspen" ;-)

Ciao,

Contessa

U.S. policy towards Cuba has, until Obama, followed the wishes of those Cubans that escaped the socialist paradise. Those were the folks in Florida dancing in the streets at the news of Castro's death.

Those same Cuban-Americans got Trump elected by delivering Florida for him. He will follow their wishes re Cuba.

Agree. Of interest is a very educational and well written article in the Miami Herald. Google it: Miami Herald Castro. It is rather Hum type of lengthy and well worth the read. No tears in Miami.

VP Contessa Dagny suits me just fine. Pirates, CEO's of Steel Industry. a perfect group if I must say so.

Do you think Balph will ever make the NY Times bestseller list? Maybe we can get him a posh room in Trump Tower. Surely that will get those creative juices flowing.

Well that's really cleared things up !

Oh Hum hates being out of the loop.

I would love to take Mr. Hum to the bar in Trump Tower. Used to stop in for a martini when I worked up that way. Might be a bit harder to get into these days.:D:D

Martinis up Trump Tower with you old chum would be great, even better with the Contessa and Raggy.

Hum will check it (Atlas Shrugged) out, if you guys think it's that good.
