Do You Get Your Hair Cut/Styled Onboard?

Just curious, how much do they charge for a shampoo and blow dry ? I think I wld be a bit apprehensive having my streaks done by a colourist I didn't know.

I was on the Eurodam in August and needed a cut. I have short hair and the cut I got before I left just didn't last. I was hesitant to have it cut by someone other than the stylist I use at home. Tay did an amazing cut, but it was a little shorter than I would have liked. Not a problem, tho, as my hair grows fast. A cut, blow dry and style cost $59 plus they add an automatic 15% service charge.

We were on a long land/cruise vacation several years ago and I thought it would be nice to have it washed and styled for formal night. I have very thick, shoulder length hair and the stylist complained that it took too long to dry and style so I never returned. She tried to sell me a lot of products, but I was so turned off by her that I firmly said no and left. Never been back to the salon on any ship.

Dominck on RCI Freedom of the Seas cut my hair on our 9/4 cruise to the W.Carribean.

First time for me. I have R.A. I was in a bit of nasty flare with my hand and wrist uncomfortable to use. I wanted Clean hair. So I made an appointment.

First.........I am extremely picky about my hair. My sisters and I all inherited thick hair that has waves in it. Few people have ever really satisfied me with a hair cut. I have cut the front myself. And clothes wise and other things, I am pretty much laid back. But not my hair. I think everyone has something........they are picky about.

So how did I look when he finished? My mouth popped open. I am sixty nine years old. I have never looked that good in my life. he cut it with scissors. he styled with blowdryer and curling iron at same time. He sprayed it. He brushed it. He took his hands and picked here and there...................AMAZING.

he is from Poland. I had obviously never met him before. I am Alabama born, Florida resident for 46 years. he told me his dream was of one day having a line of salons named "Dominck". Apparently in Poland, stylists are also trained barbers, massage specialists , study the body, the head.....................and please don't take as political, but he cannot get into USA. Undocumented residents of USA getting Green Cards under federal programs & Middle eastern Resettlement Refugees are getting all of the Green Cards that USA gives each year which is . About a Million. THAT makes me mad. That man is the kind we need in USA. Hardworking. Would be burden to none. Would contribute to economy. MAKE A LOT OF WOMEN happy.

I am not fibbing about how good the man is at fixing hair. HE MUST look at the shape of your head and style your hair to suit your head and face. . Not going to Hades for lying. I feel sort of silly posting this.......but if you are on FOS ( and we are Carnival. Princess. HAL regulars)...............SEE HIM. I told my husband I might to book a last minute deal and go again just for a haircut. ( we are 3 hours from Cape Canaveral.

And after I posted on Carnival site, lady sent in photo of her hair after he did it.She had a long braid he had done in sort of elaborate French Braid. Stunning.

Prince for shampoo, trim...cut...style with tip included was $59.00. you bet I tipped extra. Even my husband, who is a dear but would not notice if I wore a barrel to dinner was impressed. I wish him all of the success in the world.

Another thread made me think of this. I thought it would be fun to share experiences.

I always get a haircut onboard. It seems like everywhere we travel internationally, the ladies are better "coifed," so I trust the training of the stylists onboard, who have been trained around the world. I've had many haircuts and have always been very pleased with the results.

Do any of you have any onboard hairstyling experiences you'd like to share?

:confused::eek::)

I know that for me, I wish HAL would have a men's barber on board. I don't want a shampoo, a hair styling, or a blow dry. I want a simple, plain haircut.

I don't appreciate sitting for almost an hour while a stylist snips a scissors six times in open air before cutting, perhaps, a few hairs with a snip. All I really want is a hair cut, which can be done almost entirely with an electric clipper, and then just some final trimming with a scissors. I'm used to haircuts taking no more than 15 minutes. In general, I have not been satisfied with any haircuts I have received on HAL ships.

Interesting - just goes to show that YYMV. DH's haircuts only took about 15 minutes. That's all he wanted (a cut) and that's what he got :)

Never had a haircut on a cruise.

Had one in Cambodia last winter. A deluxe cut in a salon. $3 USD plus a $1 tip. He did the hair, the eyebrows, the ears, and the nose! Plus bottles of water for both of us.

DW said it was a very good cut. Street haircuts were $1USD.

Is there any discount in hair salon based on mariner status?

None that I am aware of. I was 5* for the last trim.

But, I did find they didn't charge me as much as the published rate seen here - she said it was because they didn't have to cut much.

We have taken many long cruises and needed haircuts. They are somewhat flexible with their pricing. I have asked for just a haircut for short hair - no styling. They have agreed to discounting if they are not busy. I usually ask when in port and I know they aren't busy. My husband was quoted something like $30 and ended up paying around $17-$20 because we asked. My pet peeve is the hard sell of product.
