dexddd Posted October 7, 2016 #26 Share Posted October 7, 2016 We are going on the Breakaway out of NYC 11/6. Would they change island stops if there is damage to GSC or the Bahamas? Certainly we wouldn't be forced to cruise the whole time with sea days would we? Has anyone dealt with a situation such as this? Brian - Litchfield County Connecticut Future Cruises- Nov. 6, 2016 - NCL - Breakaway Apr. 9, 2017 - RCCL - Oasis of the Seas Past Cruises- Jan. 23, 2015 - RCCL - Quantum Dec. 12, 2013 - RCCL - Explorer of the Sea Dec. 2, 2012 - NCL - Jewel Jan. 8, 2012 - NCL - Gem Just a heads up that GSC does get missed at times due to weather conditions throughout the year since they have to tender. Sissaaaaaa Posted October 7, 2016 #28 Share Posted October 7, 2016 So are you saying that if Matthew hits PC head on and destroys it, they will be able to rebuild by next month in order to start cruising from there again? If they didn't, would they just change the home port to another place like Miami? It will not destroy PC. It is not nearly strong enough to do that. DGP1111 Posted October 8, 2016 #29 Share Posted October 8, 2016 Those tasked with arranging upcoming scheduling for Norwegian Sky have some challenges facing them that I'm glad I don't have to deal with. .
ready2cruzagain Posted October 9, 2016 #30 Share Posted October 9, 2016 Just wondering when we will hear anything about GSC. We are scheduled to go there twice next month. Hoping we don't miss it!
david_sobe Posted October 9, 2016 #31 Share Posted October 9, 2016 The Bahamas have very strict building codes for hurricanes. GSC was heavily damaged years ago by a hurricane. The construction can withstand a Cat 5 storm. But with such a monster storm there is always damage. I am sure they lost some trees and sand. Hopefully all the construction they did survived the storm. We will know shortly. If the eye wall of the storm hit GSC, I suspect it will take a long time to clean up. If the eyewall of the storm missed GSC, I suspect it will be a typical clean up that will take a week or two.
Heckah Posted October 9, 2016 #32 Share Posted October 9, 2016 I've already conceded GSC for my 10/30 Breakaway cruise. Even if there was zero damage to GSC, which seems unlikely, the work crews lost a week of work. We were already cutting it close.
ctbrianp Posted October 9, 2016 #33 Share Posted October 9, 2016 If GSC is closed, will we make a different stop? Rare mking8288 Posted October 9, 2016 #34 Share Posted October 9, 2016 (edited) If GSC is closed, will we make a different stop?... It will most likely turn into a "Fun Day At Sea" with the possibility (with available berth) of going to Nassau for an overnighter - although, if the ship doesn't dock until 8 PM ... not really worthwhile unless you wish to see Atlantis at night or ashore to eat dinner or checkout the bar scene at night, etc. Shops are usually closed by 6 or 7 PM and they don't stay open late. In the old days, mentioned this at another thread - NY sailings for 7 or 8 days had an extra stop scheduled at MIA ... subsequently, eliminated. Mike A Posted October 9, 2016 #35 Share Posted October 9, 2016 The Nassau Port Webcam is up and running from the British Colonial Hilton. http://www.portnassauwebcam.com/ RCCL's Empress and Enchantment of the Seas are in port and the beach at the Hilton has sunbathers and swimmers. Therefore it appears Nassau did not take too much damage and hopefully GSC did not either since they are nearby.

Stay safe and enjoy the Breakaway !!! They've only mentioned Port Canaveral and Nassau which would be two of the last places I'd be interested in going. I'd rather they just cancel at this point so I can go home. Pay "Bermuda prices" and get two incredibly lousy ports instead.

You can see the art on the bow.The marine traffic map below the video says it is the Empress of the Seas. Edited October 9, 2016 by Mike A
