Princess ID Cards

I've never cruised on the Princess line before so I'm not sure what the culture is. I'm assuming we will get an ID card when we board that is used for onboard purchases, room key, ID for when we get off and on the boat. On prior cruises, we have gotten a hole punched in it and worn it around our neck with a lanyard. I don't carry a purse with me everywhere and I can't guarantee I'll always have pockets to put it in.

 

What is the "culture"? How do people deal with the id/door cards? I know this is a simple question, but it kept me up last night thinking about it!

Not sure "culture" is the right term. Yes, when you check-in you will be given a cruise card that is used as your room key, ID card to get on and off the ship, and a card to charge your onboard purchases. If you want to wear it around you neck on a lanyard, you will find others doing the same thing...and most not!

Yes every passenger gets their own cruise card when checking in. It does everything you mention. Carry it at all times. If you want a hole punched in the card visit the Passenger Service Desk after boarding. It is very common for passengers to use a lanyard, but bring your own. If you forget the lanyard they are for sale at one of the shops on the ship.

Take your keycard to the casino on the first day, and they will happily punch it and give you a lanyard for playing the slots.

You can also buy a lanyard in the gift shop and they will punch your card for you too...

Despite what others will say and assume there is no problem getting a hole punched in you card and wearing it anyway you want. Who cares what other people you do not know think. Enjoy your cruise.

I didn't realize anyone ever criticized people who wear their cards on lanyards. I have always done that because then I don't have to wonder where I left it and don't have to worry about carrying a purse or wearing something with pockets. If I don't want it to show I simply tuck it inside my top.

I thought most wore it on a lanyard. We do and so do all our friends.

At night I put lanyard in my purse and hubby puts his in pocket.

Going to the casino to get my lanyard and card punch is one of the first things I do when we board. Sometimes there is someone there at embarkation and sometimes not. You may have to wait for the casino to open which is about an hour after sail away. Also when I play the slots I hook the lanyard to a belt loop so I don't forget and leave it in the slot.

Like most people , once I am on board my wallet goes in the safe . I like having a hole in my card so I actually bring my own punch now so that I don't even have to go to guest services. In the past , especially when we sailed Carnival, I would always have the card on a lanyard . Nowadays, I use a smaller clip that I can use on a belt loop or attach to my backpack. It's small enough that I can throw it in a pocket in my dinner jacket or slacks . It is also discreet enough that it doesn't give the impression that I am waving my card around so that people "know who I am" which seems to be the case with a small portion of the black card bunch. Lol.

On the Royal and Regal you also need to put your card in a slot just inside your cabin to activate the lights.

While we find having our cards hanging around our necks annoying, we certainly don't care if others use lanyards. :)

I agree and think other comments about snobs is untrue. I have never wore a lanyard nor have I ever even looked at someone for wearing one, unless the lanyard is tied around your head/forehead, trailing behind u in the wind like a cape :) I assure people are enjoy their cruise not judging others.

I've been on many cruises and never used a lanyard. I've always slipped the card inside my small camera case, or my DH carries it in his pocket. It's always been a bit of a nuisance as I rarely have pockets.

Last cruise we had spare OBC so I bought a sparkly lanyard. They punched the card for me in the gift store, and it's so much easier. I love my lanyard, and, as they're fairly inexpensive, I may buy a few to colour co-ordinate haha.

I think one big advantage to attaching the cruise card to a lanyard or clip is to give it a bit a weight . It makes it harder to lose if it has some weight or if you can attach it to something .

Not really. You can use any credit card sized card in the slot & keep the light on. I bring a an old card with me in case there isn't one already in the slot.

I find that if your lanyard is thin it's more comfy. Sometimes I forget I have it on!

On one of our cruises out of Fort Lauderdale, can't remember if it was Royal or Princess, there was a booth selling lanyards inside the terminal.

 

One thing we like about lanyards is that we can hang the lanyard and card on something near the door making it difficult to misplace and easy to find.

I had my card in my pocket. Worked fine until I bought that refrigerator ornament with the magnet....

I am a teacher so I have a plethora of lanyards. Big, little, wide, skinny. Some have conference names, some have software names but I have over 15. None are bedazzled though! :-)
