sciteach11 Posted November 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 17, 2016 I just got an email for an upgrade on my Mexico cruise in February. It's the same category (oceanview obstructed) but closer to mid-ship (from OZ to OW). We don't mind being far forward, and the view seemed slightly better from our original cabin based on the obstructed view pictures. It would also move us from being above the theater to being above the Wheelhouse Bar. Since we'd prefer the quiet of not being over a bar, I think I'll turn it down. Am I missing anything? WISH84 Posted November 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 17, 2016 Nope. Mid-ship cabins are considered premium. Sounds like you've done your homework and you would be happier with the room you already have!! [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Forums
fishywood Posted November 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 17, 2016 I believe you are missing the fact that the Wheelhouse Bar is much, much, much, much quieter than the Princess Theater. You will not just have the sounds from the music and the movement of the sets, backdrop & lights during performances but also during rehearsals that can take place anytime in the morning, afternoon or even overnight. If quiet is your motive take the upgrade and don't look back.

sciteach11 Posted November 17, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted November 17, 2016 My husband and I both have asthma. Will we need to be concerned about the room being more smokey? I think there's no smoking in the bar, just the casino, right? The casino is two floors below, but I feel like it sometimes wafts up the stairwells. WupperAV Posted November 17, 2016 #6 Share Posted November 17, 2016 I had smoke induced asthma years ago and have only been bothered by someone smoking on a balcony fwd of us. I'd say no, you get smoked out going thru the casino tho.
Colo Cruiser Posted November 17, 2016 #7 Share Posted November 17, 2016 Ooh, thanks. I didn't think about rehearsals! There have been comments about noise from the theater. I would not book a cabin over the theater.

There is no smoke/cigarette smell from the casino to its upper/lower decks. Nor in the stairwell.
MGAfhc Posted November 17, 2016 #10 Share Posted November 17, 2016 I don't know what ship, but many of the OWs are behind tenders rather than lifeboats like the OZ rooms. Check the deck plan carefully. Tenders are much larger and can completely block the view. When we take an obstructed cabin we always get an OZ and have it marked 'no upgrade' as we would not want to be moved to one of these 'better' rooms. Even with an OZ category you need to study the deck plan to find the least obstructed.
victory2020 Posted November 17, 2016 #11 Share Posted November 17, 2016 Have not been above the bar before but we were "upgraded" from an interior to obstructed OV over the stage area. We didn't hear rehearsals but the late show was loud as we were trying to go to sleep.
sciteach11 Posted November 17, 2016 Author #12 Share Posted November 17, 2016 It sounds like the theater was a bad call, so I think I'll take the switch. Thanks everyone!

WupperAV Posted November 19, 2016 #15 Share Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) Yes and Princess Crown has a Speakeasy"s. I can barely walk thru A Casino when it is closed due to the nasty cigarette odor. It can also hang in a car for years if a smoker owned it first.
