LuVermont Posted December 17, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 17, 2016 We visited Costa Maya recently. We wanted a relaxing beach day where we could sample good, local food but not spend a lot at an all inclusive. After researching our options, we found Tropicante to be the spot to meet what we were looking for and we were not disappointed. Once we found our way out of the maze of shops at the port (and it really is a challenge to find your way to the taxi area) we walked past the open air shuttles, and grabbed a taxi just past the gated area. For $2 per person we were taken to the Tropicante- about a five minute ride. When we arrived, we were greeted by a staff member who escorted us to the Tropicante. This was very helpful, as we had never been before. We were introduced to our own personal waiter for the day and loungers only feet from the gentle waves of the ocean. He put up an umbrella for us, set up a table between our loungers, and was attentive but not overbearing. Our day was wonderful- buckets of Mexican beer for $15 (for 6 beers) fresh guacamole, quesadillas, etc... Just what we were looking for. Steve, the owner, personally visited with each visitor making them feel welcome. All in all, it was definitely a great beach option. easyboy Posted December 17, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 17, 2016 Interesting. Sounds cheap aside from the beer. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare crewsweeper Posted December 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 17, 2016 Definitely worth the stop easyboy. Not sure which beers the OP had in the bucket, but Steve does carry Mexican craft beers and is adding more. So yes it seems a bit high for the Corona crowd but a great price if they had the craft brews!
LuVermont Posted December 17, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted December 17, 2016 In my opinion, $2.50 per beer is good price for me. This was a Mexican beer, not Corona , but I cannot remember the name. We also did have a few local Mexican craft beers. These were $4.00 each. All in all, for $2.50 a beer, I think you are getting a steal when you pair that cost with free loungers, private waiters, and being steps from a beautiful beach. Tennant Posted December 27, 2016 #9 Share Posted December 27, 2016 Is the beach at this club open to sales people or can you enjoy your day in peace without being approached every two minutes? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
blue_water Posted December 28, 2016 #10 Share Posted December 28, 2016 (edited) We loved spending our day at Steve's (Tropicate) - great spot on the beach and they really do talpke care of you. The food is good and all you need to do is email for reservations - no fee. Highly recommend Tropicante for that kind of relaxing day! Steve is a great guy and interesting to talk to. If you want a secluded spot away from everything you'll want to go further south... Edited December 28, 2016 by blue_water

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Tennant I would be as concerned about other visitors sitting close to us more than vendors since the vendors aren't in the seating area unless you ask them. CouponMom Posted January 6, 2017 #17 Share Posted January 6, 2017 How are the food prices? Just wondering between drink/food pricing if doing an AI is better deal? But this place really sounds just like what we're looking for. We go in a few weeks! :)
tampadonna Posted January 6, 2017 #18 Share Posted January 6, 2017 We just returned from a week on the Carnival Magic Christmas week. We had arranged for loungers with Tropicante - and it was fabulous! I concur with the relaxed no pressure approach. Enjoyed a beach massage at a VERY reasonable price, great guacamole and super drinks. Had a great conversation about Mexican real estate with Steve Uhl the owner, and did some tequila tasting. Local tequila that was so smooth and wonderful. It was a great relaxing day - we cannot say enough about Tropicante. All as advertised and more. tampadonna Posted January 10, 2017 #20 Share Posted January 10, 2017 I thought they were very reasonable - $5 margaritas (generous), food ran from $5-10 per entree. If you look at their website (sandalsandskisdotcom) you can see a link to their menu. Loved it and would recommend it. Try local tequila shots - they were great!
