mwsrccl Posted January 7, 2017 #26 Share Posted January 7, 2017 Take reviews with a grain of salt. People are 5 times more likely to write a bad review than a good one. Just add up the 100,000 or more passengers that have sailed on the vista with the few bad reviews. Some people have something unfortunate happen to them at port like delays etc and then the rest of the trip they focus on their vacation being ruined and only look for negatives. I was a very loyal Royal Caribbean cruiser until I tried carnival. The price is better, in my opinion the food was great, shows were good and I have never looked back. I will also say the casino treats you a lot better as far as return offers than Royal. I will be in Vista in June and I will be sure to do an honest review. crzndeb Posted January 7, 2017 #27 Share Posted January 7, 2017 (edited) Umm...spent 33 days on the ship in October. Think about it [emoji12] Just to clarify, I was also on the TA, so it actually went to Nov 3...LOL Hi Mary, Happy New Year to you too! Yes, it has been quite chilly, but I actually don't mind having the sun. Edited January 7, 2017 by crzndeb
serene56 Posted January 7, 2017 #28 Share Posted January 7, 2017 We are on the Vista in Feb. I read about the lines and how crowded it is. We will avoid the buffet at peak times. (thats every cruise not just the Vista) and if there is a line getting into the comedy show we will not go- will find something else to do. Its not earth shattering to miss something. But sometimes a bunch of small disappointments for some can snowball and make it even bigger.
evandbob Posted January 7, 2017 #29 Share Posted January 7, 2017 One of the nice things about Vista was that my balcony cabin had a thermostat that worked! We could adjust the temperature and could feel the climate control working immediately. Some people were complaining that individual control resulted in less closet space, but we cruise with carry on luggage only (even for this 11 day repo cruise) so that was not an issue for use. There are many posts on CC about needing sweaters when it is too cool, fans when it is too hot, and the working thermostat mitigated these issues. I also loved the modern decor, the changing atrium vortexes, and the variety of food options like JiJi's and the Steakhouse. The Diamond Brunch had Wagyu Short Ribs and they were fantastic, but only about 140 Diamond cruisers were offered this special treat. Too bad we had JH blather incessantly at this event, otherwise it would have been perfect for us.
Liverpoollovely Posted January 7, 2017 #30 Share Posted January 7, 2017 I have never sailed on Carnival before. My last eight cruises have been on Royal Caribbean. The last few RC cruises we met a number of people who have sailed on both Carnival and NCL and they all shared that they liked all three of the lines and made their plans based on prices and ships. So, my husband and I decided to try) different lines. Our first venture from RC will be on the Carnival Vista in March 2018. I chose this one due to the Cruise Critics "Best New Ship 2016" award and because of the on board activities (Skyride and ropes course). -I o We are now booked on a non-refundable cruise and I am getting a little concerned due to the recent increase of poor reviews. Personally, I feel a lot of reviews tend to be nit-picky and my husband and I are pretty easy going cruisers. But there are some eerily similar complaints. To me, just getting away and having someone cook and clean-up after me is my ultimate goal and I would cruise twice a year if my husband would take more time off from work, but he won't. :( But I am still a little concerned. Although, maybe some of these problems will be corrected by Carnival by 2018. So, I would love to read more positive reviews. We are in an outside cabin, 2222, so if anyone has experience with this or similar cabins, it would also be nice to hear something good. Firstly I would like to state I have been on the Carnival Vista recently on the transatlantic cruise from Barcelona to New York ... and on the whole I had an amazing experience I LOVED this ship .. everyone on the ship was friendly, helpful I had an amazing time .. the entertainment staff were fantastic .. the food quality was OK but I truly enjoyed it I havent done a review of this sailing ... maybe I should as I can assure you I don't think I am in the minority in having an exceptional time on the ship .. not everything was perfect about the ship .. the food was not as great as usual however I NEVER went hungry .... did it take time to get used to the layout? Sure but I found the maps in the elevator areas helpful and crew members were polite and helpful when you were unsure of where you were going .... I really did not care for the design of the lounge BUT it is all relative in the scheme of things it certainly did not spoil or ruin my cruise neither did I let it So please do not worry all reviews are based on peoples sole personal experience and some people just cannot be pleased take every view with a pinch of salt you go and enjoy yourself! Posesmom Posted January 7, 2017 #31 Share Posted January 7, 2017 DH & I are in our late 30's & have sailed Carnival before & we loved this ship. We did stay in the Havana section so we didn't have to deal with the crowds if we didn't want to, which may have made a huge difference, but regardless a lot of the things I've seen people be so critical of the Vista for just didn't matter to us at all. We are very laid back, happy people & we aren't hard to please. I thought the ship was beautiful, it was our favorite stateroom ever & overall a wonderful vacation. I am planning to do the Vista again with our kids, I think they would love this ship. Have a great time!

Posesmom Posted January 7, 2017 #35 Share Posted January 7, 2017 I think you'll love the area, everyone seemed to as much as we did that we talked to! I never heard noise, even when I knew the band was playing. This room was next to the staff stairwell so there were times I could hear them in the night, but nothing that would keep me from staying in the same room again. beerman2 Posted January 7, 2017 #38 Share Posted January 7, 2017 don't sail on the vista over a holiday . unless you like standing in lines for everything. the IMAX is great . Same can be said for most cruiselines! It's common sense.
Mawelch Posted January 8, 2017 #39 Share Posted January 8, 2017 People that get upset because there are no table cloths on the tables in the main dining room and no glass elevators in the atrium, not enough hot tubs, etc. couldn't be pleased if you let them cruise for free. I have never been on a bad cruise (cruised over 25 times) just some a little more memorable then others. You have to make the best of it and enjoy the moment. Don't get hung up on the fact that you had a little wait to get on the ship or there were to many kids running around ( don't cruise when the kiddies aren't in school), just focus on the fact that you are cruising and someone else does all the cleaning and cooking and listening to disgruntled people who couldn't have a good time if their lives depended on it
nednrom Posted January 8, 2017 #40 Share Posted January 8, 2017 I simply don't agree with statements like this. People get used to a certain product and have expectations that the product will remain the same. Carnival has made many changes and we've tried other lines with the idea of experiencing the product Carnival used to offer. I happen to like the tablecloths, twice a day cabin service, the glass elevators, the chocolates on the pillow and so forth. Carnival is one line of many. I can get more on another line, though I'll be paying more. I'm happy to pay more if it means the experience will be more elegant and of a higher quality. I agree--it is the cumulative effect of little things that cause disappointment. Doesn't mean that the cruise experience was not enjoyable. How low should our expectations go? I was fine with not seeing the tablecloths, but not changing silverware between courses at a specialty restaurant like Cuchina? Even at Outback on land I get new silverware. trvlgirlmq Posted January 8, 2017 #41 Share Posted January 8, 2017 We cruised Vista in the Mediterranean and it was my 6th Carnival cruise. It is not the ship for me though. We didn't experience too many service issues and the ones we did were minor and didn't affect us too much. My issues are more with the way Carnival seems to be going along with the exclusivity of other lines. I do not like that there are areas that are off limits to me if I don't book a particular (expensive) cabin type. The late-night noise issues in many cabins from the Havana Lounge and IMAX are a concern. I'm a very light sleeper and the little noises wake me so that means that all the cabins even close to these areas are off the table. We have always enjoyed the ropes course on Breeze and the one on Vista was a lot more difficult and a couple of us had to be "rescued" on the easy course. Totally embarrassing! None of my family had any issues on even the hard course on Breeze and we were told by staff that this one had been redesigned and, yes, was more difficult. So just these items will keep us from Vista in the future. I know that Horizon will probably have the same issues but if it sails in Europe when launched we will most likely be there. But then it's back to Dream Class for us in the Caribbean.
Coach Pedro Posted January 9, 2017 #42 Share Posted January 9, 2017 it is a pretty ship for a medium sized one, but the amenities are not enough for all the passengers..... I'll cruise Carnival again, but the Vista crew was not that good, and the lines were long (We went before Christmas). Maybe in a few years we will do again. The itinerary was a good one. Jelly_Toast Posted January 9, 2017 #43 Share Posted January 9, 2017 Did not care for the layout of the main "show room" and the comedy lounge was too small for that many people. Enjoy the cruise, any cruise is what you make it, so just go determined to have a great time! You are right, the positive and negative aspects are subjective, but these two things you mentioned are the most often mentioned negatives and why I likely won't be booking Vista.
