phillyguy31 Posted January 18, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2017 I have seen in many threads about not having to pay gratuity's if you book on the UK site. What happens if someone from the US uses the UK site and books that way. I just tried it and although I didn't go all the way it appears it will let you and it was about 600 cheaper when you do the pound to dollar conversion. hawkeyetlse Posted January 18, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2017 They try to make it hard for people outside of the country to use that version of the website, but if you manage to do it, yes, you can book through NCL UK and get the UK booking conditions (for better and for worse, so make sure you know exactly what you're getting into). insanemagnet Posted January 18, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 18, 2017 On the positive side, for any free drink promotions there is no chargeable gratuity.

And if you are cruising the Med, a legendry no sales tax on drinks either. I have yet to put that to the test though! Roll on May. :)
IrieBajan54 Posted January 19, 2017 #10 Share Posted January 19, 2017 Deposit lost not worth the difference. Thanks However, if you are booking within the 75 day penalty period, it is a mute point.
SullytheBFG Posted January 19, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 19, 2017 How do you get to the US website? If I add .com it just sends me to the UK one or are people using a VPN? Interested in the price difference even with the bad exchange rate!

hawkeyetlse Posted January 19, 2017 #13 Share Posted January 19, 2017 How do you get to the US website? If I add .com it just sends me to the UK one or are people using a VPN?You need to use a VPN to get around the location detection, and even that doesn't always work (in my experience) once you start clicking through to make a booking. If you strongly prefer to book with NCL US direct, you can do it over the phone (or e-mail a PCC). Otherwise, find a US-based TA and book it that way. The cruises I was interested in matched up with the exchange rates.

nomad098 Posted January 19, 2017 #20 Share Posted January 19, 2017 yes we have one and causing him headaches with our having to cancel an upcoming cruise and he is fighting to transfer our booking to another without us losing our deposit We did this told by the UK PCC not a problem as long as a the cruise cost £1 more otherwise a £35 admin fee per person. Had no perks with original booking so not sure if they would carry over.
