Island Lady's live adventure on Oasis of the Seas

Recommended Posts

I'm always amazed at the rudeness and so many complaints from cruisers to the staff onboard. They need to think, before complaining, of how they would feel doing their job and being treated that way. Society.....sad.

You are doing a fantastic review! Can't wait to dine in CK!! Also, I'm hearing bits and pieces of the First Night Done Right promo.... but no details...is it a special price for all the specialty restaurants for first night? Is there a way to use the BOGO D+ coupon first night or pay up front for a later night, if you do FNDR?

Love St Maarten!! Whatever the weather, I'm sure it beats here! Yesterday was 69 degrees.....today in the 40's for highs and 30's for lows!:(

Thanks Kay!! :D

Yeah, he was acting as an embarrassment to the name CC. Sad behavior indeed.

The way the promo is set up, 15.00 per person on a "grab bag" of any specialty

restaurant they pick for you. You reserve the time, then they pick the restaurant.

But the promo is flawed, since no one I know of tend to receive any kind of

notice of which one it will be. I do believe they are trying to push pax into

Giovannis, which is 30.00 a person online, but listed as 29.00 on the ship.

D+ on a BOGO booked on the ship would then be 14.50 a person.

Guessing this promo is really geared towards first timers, etc.

Since the promo is so unclear, it is best to walk into any specialty on boarding

day make your reservation that way. Crap shoot as to what will happen then.

Of course FNDR is first night only. We were able to book 150 Park Ave, and

and then used our BOGO for Giovannis the next night.

Yes, CK is a nice venue indeed. :)

Oh well, at least the A/C at home is not chugging $$ out of my wallet right

now with the cool weather. LOL!! ;)

Not surprising, LOL!!. And and does not qualify to be a personal assault on

anyone. Rude man needed to get a life. ;)

Remember the windows on Enchantment in the CL.... Yikes, those were

really shot!

The blue glow was cool

Day five, part two...St. Maarten.

Before we left for town, I got a chance to hang my banner on the

balcony facing the P&O ship and the large Princess ship next to us.

It is a home made effort done by Bucky and myself. It has the Royal blue

writing, a large anchor, and the words "Loyal Royals" on it. ;) Take that

Princess! LOL!!

Another thing we do as tradition is to put out one magnet fish outside of

our cabin door for each day. Naturally we have 5 little fishies out there right

now for day five. Cabin attendant gets a kick out of it, along with several of

my own "towel animals" to surprise him as usual. LOL :)

Took the water taxi to town, did a lot of walking around, bought another...

of course...fish magnet...and did a good job of refilling our home rum

supply. No matter how many shops we went into, as usual, the liquor

store on the dock where the water taxi comes in is again the cheapest

in town.

Lunch this time was at the Holland House, ocean lounge. We had the sushi quality

tuna sandwiches..a couple of beers and wine...and had a nice time. Service

quite slow...but hey...it's on island time of course. Water taxi back to ship

to enjoy the rest of the afternoon.

Bucky is wandering around again just near the ships in the shops here at

the port right now, which is an excuse to enjoy a couple of el cheapo local beers after his

reading time on deck. Port authority is doing even more major upgrades to the

pier shopping area. Two huge new buildings are being built. As a guess, at

approx. 5K per ship, with 5 huge ships here....you do the numbers. Place brings

in the tourist dollars!!

I am now up to date again, and need to get ready for sail away (all aboard

at 4:30), happy hour, and looking forward to CK again. Bucky wants that

delicious tortellini again...I am not sure what to order. Then again not

sure which day the menu is changing.

Something I find comical. I do my internet work on one of the two

computers in the DL. Right now it is 3:30. Happy hour starts at

4:30. But each day, many pax dressed for dinner are already coming

in to secure seating. One hour early!! It must indeed get really

crowded in here by 4:30!! Glad I don't walk in until 6 pm. Plenty of

seats available then. ;)

Stay tuned for part three of day five, coming up next. :D Thanks for

tuning in.

Tonight should be the last night on that menu. Tomorrow has to be my favorite menu.

The sesame crusted tuna is a must try.

Yummms...done deal!! I hope it does not have that fennel (island lady

not a fan of fennel) like they do it in Chops. :( If so, I will have them

leave off the dusting and eat it plain. :)

Report her to CC; LOL. That's funny. Apparently that guest doesn't realize that CC is only a message board, for all the cruise lines, and has nothing to do with the actual cruise lines. Oy. Some people. I'd like to send him out there to clean the windows.

I like the water taxi idea in St. Maarten. My cruise isn't until September; about the only thing I can see is excursions right now. We've been looking through them all and can't decide what we want to do, but are amazed at how expensive everything is now. Our last cruise was March 2015, not that long ago.

San Juan is ridiculous - barely anything under $100 a person.

Yup, economy improves...prices go up...sigh. :(

Would have liked to at least wander around in San Juan, but we got in so

late, was not something I wanted to do right at dinner time. Mother Nature

turned our 7 night cruise into a 2 port cruise pretty much. Oh well...

You are up next John! Time for you to do a live review soon...or at least pick

one from your many, many that you have booked on OA. ;)

Just realized you have a lot of them booked during hurricane season!

Well, at least you don't feel much on this ship...the tank of the seas. ;)

And she can scoot out of the way pretty fast for all of her size.

Day 5, part 3:

Enjoyed time on our balcony with some good wine from C&A. A Shiraz

from Aussie Land that is on their new wine list. We sat on the balcony sipping our

excellant glass of red and got a kick out of the ship's horns as the other 5 ships

were departing. Was also enjoying the really good pool band we could hear on

Princess. Then it hit me...Oasis does not have a pool band. Not that we use the pool,

but it is the one ship we have been on that had no pool band. I checked the compass

and found that the only bands are in lounges after 8 pm.

The DL once again offered many choices for empty seats at 6 pm, enjoyed a

another good time with new found friends. Man from Vintages came around

the room, hawking his wine tasting event at a discount. More wine??!! Sure..

wine not!! :D Booked for Day 6 at 3 pm.

CK was once again very good. Bucky had his Tortellini, delicious again, and I had

the roast chicken. Also good. Desert was a decadent chocolate offering for

Bucky, and I had the creme brulee. Though we are looking forward to tonight's

menu change to try other entrees.

This time we tried not to be fuddy duddies and checked out several venues

around the ship. The comedy show was over sold...no go there...long line.

The Jazz on 4 had people listening out in the doorway due to no seats.

Definitely need reservations for every entertainment venue on this ship.

Oh well, used it as an excuse to go catch some zzzzs and enjoy an uncrowded

ship early this morning. :)

Next up..dawn of our sea day on Day 6.

Dawn of day six.

The day is showing partly cloudy, with the wind picking up dramatically

as we head north at over 20 knots. As I sit here in the DL, I can see

our very amble aft end bobbing up and down against the view of the

horizon quite a bit. Glad we are mid ship! Still better in these

seas with this big of a ship than say a Vision or Radiance class.

Up at 6 am, (very unusual for my sleepy boy Bucky) who decided to

do his walkies on the walking deck early today. Oasis has a great

walking deck that is sheltered and interesting to walk, while I came

up here to the DL to start my review of the day. I am still nursing a

bad foot after my injury from Rhapsody last month.

Greasy floors in the WJ made Island Lady go big time splat in a most

unlady like position on the last day of that cruise. Medical team

examined it, said no broken bones (thank goodness) but I have

a bad sprain and some torn ligaments. :( So no major

walkies for me yet, but I did manage my hobble walk in the

ports...just not doing the usual springy step.

Not sure where for breakfast this morning. Everything naturally opens

quite a bit later on a sea day. We have our bridge tour scheduled for

8:45 am. Early for some, but works for us. :) Bucky just walked in,

time for his kick butt coffee and my yummy Latte! :)

Next up, continuation of our day at sea, Day 6.

I need to do a ******** campaign to pay for my internet. Next few cruises are 10,11, and 14 days. The D+ coupons don't go far on those.

Day six, part two. Day at sea

Decided on the WJ for breakfast. Surprised how busy it was so early. Very

happy to see poached eggs back on the buffet. Did finally try the "fresh

scrambled eggs"...but tasted suspiciously like the powdered egg offering.

Checked on our photos, some pretty comical port shots. Love how Oasis

puts all your photos in those numbered albums. No searching required.

Kiosk did not work until today, but could access those folders. Nice to

keep them all gathered until we get a chance to paw through them all.

Did a round of golf, no golf cart required. ;) I don't think I will be winning

any Master's tournaments with my lack of talent!! ;) Not impressed

with the clubs they have available. They are all for children/midgets. More

like playing with teaspoons. Not sure where all the adult length clubs are. :(

Watched the flow riders (one side boogie board, one side surfing) for a

bit. There were several older gents that I think will find bruising surfacing

tonight from the looks of their falling act. Yikes!

Watched the zip line for away also. They were having fun, but I think

I will attempt a zip line that lasts longer for my first time. Bucky wants

to try it later.

Did the bridge tour. Very impressive on this ship, and very modern. One

thing I did not realize is that Oasis class does not have the usual port/

starboard side Azipods with a fixipod in the middle. (excuse spelling)

OA has three Azipods, which has props facing forward. More quick

response so they tell us. It was a good tour.

Just chillin in the DL until our room is cleaned, then on to lunch.

Today is our "meal with an officer" day. Made reservations

with Beatrice for "Come Fly with Me" tonight. We are doing

Cats tomorrow afternoon.

Next up, day six, part three.

Thanks Sherri...you are very sweet!

Yes, I was shocked at how large our JS cabin is, both inside and the big balcony

due to being dead center on the aft hump. Lots and lots of storage, big walk in

closet, more drawers and shelves than we could even use. Not sure of square

foot difference, but it seemed much bigger than Freedom. The last time we were

on Oasis, we did a D1, which was smaller than D1 on Freedom.

We got into St. Thomas at 7:30, Captain just called available to go ashore

a few minutes ago.

No, we did Solarium this morning, since they were indeed back open again

Still not sure why they were closed yesterday. They opened at 6:30, which

worked for us!

I did do a recon at Johnny Rockets. It is sit down, waiter order and served,

but it is 50's diner style breakfast. They do make omelettes, but very limited

ingredients. Just tomatoes, onions, and peppers, no mushies or spinach that I like.

The size of the cabin sounds great. We have 11636 booked for August 20 and Nov 26. The other two cruises (May 21 and 1-28-2018) are in 11632 and I keep checking if the 11636 is available. I like the starboard side better for sun and shade patterns.

Does the balcony have good shade areas? I usually sit on my own balcony rather than going to the pool and I always stay in the shade as I have such fair skin. My father, who was also really pale, had a few skin cancers removed.

Should you or your hubby find yourself hobbling down aft-ward on deck 11, can you let me know what's at the end of the starboard side corridor? The deck plan makes it look open, so you can see down to the aqua theater. I know it used to be a secret balcony before the new suites were added, but it doesn't look like they completely closed it off, based on the deck plan drawings. Maybe it's a glass wall?

No worries if you can't; I was looking at our cabin location and noticed it tonight, so I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

It is all closed off. Very end of the hall is a crew only stairwell and the entrance area to the one bedroom AquaTheater Suite. No public viewing area.

Have you noticed if Starbucks sells any coffee cups with Royal C or ship name, like they do in their shops across the world?

No, not that I have noticed, but I don't do the Starbucks thing anyway. Not

much help there I am afraid. I have seen many Starbucks paper coffee cups

that just look like regular Starbucks. They may have them, so I will try to

be more observant today.

Bucky is the "sun lizard" and loves it when the sun is on our balcony. Naturally one

way will have sun then, traveling back the other way is always different. Me...I have

been cut on three times now, I don't lay in the sun at all either.

Of course 99% of the time OA docks up on the Starboard side, since they she is designed

for that. We have decided we like port side now for better view in port, other than the

dock area.

Yes, one of the decks indeed goes out to the "secret balcony"...can't remember

which, but will investigate again on next scheduled "hobble"..;)

On the other end...we love using the sun deck on 14 forward for quick views

as we slide into port sometimes. No chairs there, just observation deck, but

great sweeping view forward. There is also great view as always in the Solarium.
