Island Lady's live adventure on Oasis of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Pat -- loving your review. Some thoughts/questions:

Our cabin on 2-26 is 11636 -- same location but on the Starboard side. Is the balcony bigger than some of the JSs? It looks like that on the Deck Plan? How was the room and storage space for the JS compared to one on the Freedom. Our friends that we usually cruise with have this stateroom in November. They had to cancel so I will send them a link to your thread.

What time did you get into St. Thomas this morning? I think your itinerary is better than the one you were supposed to have.

Did you try Johnny Rockets for Breakfast -- they have cooked to order eggs.

Enjoying your review, Pat! Thanks for taking the time to post. We are on the Oasis Eastern itinerary Feb. 5th. This will be our first time on an Oasis class ship, and our friends' first ever cruise.

Did you happen to hear of any one going to Chops for the First Night Done Right? We were hoping that might be an option.

Thanks!

Thank you! And you are most welcome! :)

150 CP (where we used our FNDR), is 45.00 per, versus 42.00 at

Chops. So if we were able to go there...don't see a reason you could not

use it for Chops. At least for now right now, until they decide to change

the terminology on the prom.

Hi Pat, how many menus have you seen at CK so far

Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Forums mobile app

Just the one so far John. I am guessing it was menu #2. We at at 150 CP

the first night, and Giovannis the second night. Not sure what the menu

was then. Will report back after we have our dinner tonight.

Thanks Sherri...you are very sweet!

Yes, I was shocked at how large our JS cabin is, both inside and the big balcony

due to being dead center on the aft hump. Lots and lots of storage, big walk in

closet, more drawers and shelves than we could even use. Not sure of square

foot difference, but it seemed much bigger than Freedom. The last time we were

on Oasis, we did a D1, which was smaller than D1 on Freedom.

We got into St. Thomas at 7:30, Captain just called available to go ashore

a few minutes ago.

No, we did Solarium this morning, since they were indeed back open again

Still not sure why they were closed yesterday. They opened at 6:30, which

worked for us!

I did do a recon at Johnny Rockets. It is sit down, waiter order and served,

but it is 50's diner style breakfast. They do make omelettes, but very limited

ingredients. Just tomatoes, onions, and peppers, no mushies or spinach that I like.

What kind of hot entrees were on the buffet in the MDR lunch? Trying to lure Chuck back as I love the Tutti Salad.

The hot buffet line is separate from the Tutti salad bar. Day two had roasted

chicken breasts, mashed pots, veggies, and others I did not check out. The next

day they had pork chops.

Continuation of Day four: St. Thomas

Once again great time was had by all in the DL. Really empty when we

walked in just before 6 pm, but it does start to fill up again by 7 pm, which

is probably second seating or pax returning from first seating...not sure.

Our 7;30 reservations at CK once again worked well, but we asked them

not to top off our wine this time..though they did try. ;) Had more than

our share anyway. That bottle with our sushi at lunch, then drinks in the DL

(I tried cranberry juice, vodka, and tonic this time..yumm!), and our

"traveler" wine as we entered CK. Urrble!! Hick... ;)

I had the totally excellent tortellini this time. Wonderful! Bucky had

the strip loin, which was also very good. I love the green onion dip

with the bread sticks and we both had escargot. Service was attentive,

but entree took awhile to come out. I think it may have had something to

do with Chef's table. The night before, Chef's table had just four people

there, but last night the table of 12 was totally full. Busy in the kitchen

with that I think. Chef's table is located inside CK towards the back. We

enjoyed an excellent location for our two top table, right next to the

window with great view over central park. Looking forward to tonight's

dining again! :)

Once again the "party animals" went to bed early again. Will attempt to

break out of our night time shells starting tonight. ;)

Next up: Day Five (St. Thomas)

Day Five, St. Maarten:

Was happy to see Solarium open and available again, and better yet...

opened early at 6:30 am. After filling up our coffee mugs, checking out

the view off of the open sun deck (forward deck 14) we enjoyed a more

healthy breakfast in the quiet Solarium. Got busy when we left, but

loved the view from in there as we gracefully slid into port. Four

ships already here. P&O, Carnival, Princess, and HAL that I could see.

Could be someone on our starboard side, but did not check it out yet.

Could see five cruise ships sailing along with us last night!

Docked at 7:30, and all ashore that's going ashore...was just before

8:00 am. We will once again do our favorite, and take a water taxi

to town for Rum refills for the house, shopping, and lunch.

I did check out Johnny Rockets. They do indeed make fresh omelettes,

but limited ingredients. Sit down restaurant, waiter served, and no charge

for breakfast. Not busy at all at 8:00 am. Looked nice to sit outside in

the boardwalk area. I sampled the "scramble" at Solarium, which was

not bad! :) They also had chicken sausages, I tried one, liked it...but I

can just hear everyone go...eeeww!! LOL! My breakfast was mostly

granola, museli, fruit, and a half of a bagel. All delicious!

One embarrassing thing happened yesterday. I was in the DL when a

very rude man laid into poor Beatrice. He was threatening her about

the condition of the "dirty windows" in the DL which were obviously cloudy from

the all the bad weather we had. Plus she told me later, that Maintenance

told her they were damaged from sea air etching. Happens a lot.

He threatened her "If those windows are NOT cleaned by tomorrow, I

will report you to Cruise Critic and give them your name!!"...Huh??

What?? Sheezz...when he left I apologized to her for his crass behavior

and told her that CC is not meant to be a threat against crew members.

I had told her on Day 1, that I was not happy about the lock out until muster

on embarkation, but would never threaten her. She is extremely sweet and

does everything possible to make everyone happy.n Very hard working

young lady.

I am now up to date live, signing off. Hope I have not put everyone

to sleep with my rambling on. ;)

Next up: Our adventures in St. Maarten, continuation of Day Five.

Pat(and Bucky), enjoying your review.....but wish I were onboard Oasis with y'all, enjoying even more! I was actually tired of cruising after our December ones, but am back ready to go, now!:) When I was on Allure in October, I had breakfast a couple of mornings and lunch a few times at Park Cafe. John and I enjoyed Johnny Rockets for breakfast on Oasis. Can't wait to hear about CK from you! I'm thinking of booking Harmony for our "free PC cruise". :)

Congratulations on reaching Pinnacle!

Please don't kill the messenger, but the free cruise cannot be booked on a new ship for the first year it is in service. :( If you can book it after May without the offer expiring, then it would work.

Hi CG!

Congratulations on becoming Pinnacle. It's been a while since we met on the Enchantment cruise out of Norfolk, which was our first cruise. We are still cruising, and looking forward to our next one, which will be Oasis next month. Hope you and John are well.

Thanks, Karen. Yes, I've read the certificate, and have until July to redeem, so should be ok. :) John's vacation calendar runs June 1- May 31, so as soon as he gets the week off okayed, we can book.:)

(Also, for those becoming Pinnacle soon, along with the black out date for ships in their first year in service, Christmas/New Years sailings cannot be booked with the certificate.)

I'm always amazed at the rudeness and so many complaints from cruisers to the staff onboard. They need to think, before complaining, of how they would feel doing their job and being treated that way. Society.....sad.

You are doing a fantastic review! Can't wait to dine in CK!! Also, I'm hearing bits and pieces of the First Night Done Right promo.... but no details...is it a special price for all the specialty restaurants for first night? Is there a way to use the BOGO D+ coupon first night or pay up front for a later night, if you do FNDR?

Love St Maarten!! Whatever the weather, I'm sure it beats here! Yesterday was 69 degrees.....today in the 40's for highs and 30's for lows!:(

Those Windows have been dirty forever. Se la vie

Not surprising, LOL!!. And certainly does not qualify enough to be a personal assault on

anyone. Rude man needed to get a life. ;)

Remember the windows on Enchantment in the CL.... Yikes, those were

really shot!
