Pig & Anchor vs. Oceanside Barbecue

I've never been a huge fan of Carnival's Oceanside Barbecue, but on my next cruise on the Dream, it will apparently be the Pig & Anchor instead.

Is this a significant change/upgrade or is it more of just a re-branding of the same general product?

Its a big change. The menus arent even close to being the same. There are no tacos, burgers and dogs at Guys Pig and Anchor. Only pulled pork, smoked chicken and also a beef brisket and a sausage.

Weird. I don't remember tacos ever being a part of the Oceanside Barbecue. The only thing I ever saw there was hot dogs and hamburgers.

The menu for Pig & Anchor looks impressive, but so does the one listed for Oceanside, and it doesn't reflect what I actually saw being offered. I wonder if it'll be the same for P&A?

I'm on the Dream in 11 days and really looking forward to this and Guy's Burger Joint. We get both.

Apparently a lot of folks like it but our group of 6 thought it looked disgusting and not one of us would even try it. But, to each their own and if you enjoy it, good on you. :D It's good that people like different things.

Do these people typically like BBQ? Just curious as I could see pulled meat looking disgusting to those that don't usually eat it. But if they know BBQ and this looks bad it says a lot.

It looks just fine to me. Just like any other pulled pork or smoked chicken you would see at any other Que stand.

I definitely know my BBQ. I have several friends that are competition Que cookers and we have some of the best BBQ places in this whole state within a few miles of where I live. Pig and Anchor is certainly not best Que Ive ever had but certainly far from the worst and I think they do a fine job considering how many they have to cook for and what they have to work with.

Excellent BBQ is cooked for less than 100 people usually, not thousands ;) Its all about keeping expectations in check IMO. Anyone going on a cruise ship expecting world class, award winning BBQ is gonna surely be disappointed.

Yes they do. I make pulled pork and/or BBQ beef fairly regularly and I have been to a lot of BBQ places. Never seen anything that looked this bad. I would be embarrassed to offer it to guests at my house. But like I said, it's good that people like different things. There is a popular BBQ chain near us that people rave about, we went in, tried it, and walked out, found it to be awful. Different strokes for different folks.

Best BBQ I ever had was a little old man at the side of a gas station parking lot off I-95. Looked and tasted fantastic.

If you like the P&A that's fine by me (not that anyone needs my permission) , just don't ask me to eat it.:D

Can anyone tell me if the Pig&Anchor is on the Breeze? My daughter and son in law will be sailing the Breeze next year and both are big fans of BBQ.

The website says coming soon to Breeze. Currently just on Magic and Vista. :)

I wonder how soon is "soon"? They are cruising Feb 2018.

It just says 2017 so they should have it by then!

Carnival Breeze

Previous Dry-Dock: N/A Year of Next Scheduled Dry-Dock: 2017

Notes: The Carnival Breeze will be sent to dry-dock 4/16/17 - 4/29/17, according to GoCCL. While Carnival has not released information about the Carnival Breeze's 2017 dry-dock, based on a recent press release the ship is scheduled to receive Guy's Pig & Anchor BBQ in 2017. It is highly likely the ship will receive this feature in dry-dock, but Carnival has not confirmed the exact timing of the Breeze receiving this feature. At this time, no other information has been publicly released about the enhancements or work that will be completed during this dry-dock.

This will be the Carnival Breeze's first dry-dock since the ship entered service in 2012.

We enjoyed the Pig and Anchor. The brisket is disappointing, but the pulled pork and chicken were good. The sauces are delicious. I enjoyed the mac and cheese, baked beans, and greens. The cole slaw and potato salad were meh.

For those who want as drink - here's a hack down on that deck. Go to the casino bar and ask for a glass of water. They will gladly serve you one.

It's not the best BBQ in the world, but in my opinion it's a MAJOR upgrade over the Oceanside BBQ (never had Fat Jimmy's), and a welcome addition. It was good enough that we ate it both seas days. :D
