Jewel of the Seas, 1/22/17

Recommended Posts

Just completed a wonderful sailing on the Jewel of the Seas on Sunday. Sailed with three friends in an Owner Suite who have never sailed on a cruise ship. We celebrated two birthdays on board. Here is a brief summary of our experience:

Stateroom 1060 OS: Beautiful, plenty of room for four ladies. Our Stateroom attendant Francisco was awesome. I don't know how he did it but he managed to keep our stateroom immaculate. Whenever we were headed to our stateroom, he would beat us to the door and open it for us. He kept ice in our champagne bucket all 7 days, never had to ask. Champagne was always chilled and ready for us.

Concierge Lounge: Diego is by far -- the best Concierge! Took exceptional care of all of our needs and ensured we were happy throughout the cruise. I am gluten free and had a terrible experience last cruise on the Harmony. Diego had GF snacks for me in the lounge (Scallops, chicken wings, butterfly fish, Chicken curry skewer's), he took care of all of our dining reservations and ensured that all of our dining venues were aware that I had Celiac's and I received excellent care wherever we dined. He even preordered for me in the dining room. He sent two bottles of complimentary champagne to our stateroom to celebrate the birthday's to include hard cider and ginger ale. He made all of our reservations and he also escorted us off the ship due to our early air departure. He was so amazing-- the girls booked their next cruise for next January.

Bartenders in Concierge Lounge: They were awesome. Always ensured that we had drinks in hand and even gave us a top off when we left for dining.

Specialty Dining:

Izumi: I was not impressed, I had the miso soup and hot rock. Soup was to hot to eat and the meat/fish were dried out because the hot rock overcooked everything. The other ladies loved their sushi rolls. Next time, I will do the rolls. Service was excellent.

Giovanni: I had the veal chop. It was amazing. I always order this in Giovanni's and I must admit, it was the best on the Jewel. I am still thinking about it. If you have never ordered it before, try it. It is so amazing. Service was Superior. Our waiter George was truly one of the best of the best

Chops: I had the petite filet mignon (medium). I also ordered mushrooms, and asparagus. It was delicious and cooked perfectly. Our waiter was also awesome. I am sorry but forgot his name. The other ladies order filet's as well and they were very happy. Perfect dinner!

Dining Room: We ate three nights in the Dining room. I have to say, it was really good. I usually don't like to eat in the dining room because I am a gourmet cook but each night the food and service was exceptional. Never disappointed.

Windjammer: We ate one night in the Windjammer with Diego. I only ate a hotdog (no bun) and salad. The other ladies, enjoyed many things and said it was very good. We did stop by the Windjammer three days for the lowfat Yogurt. We were not disappointed.

Ports: St Croix, Dominica, Barbados, and Grenada. The ports were really nice and the weather was perfect. We enjoyed the beach in St Croix (right off the port), A tour in Dominica, Catameran in Barbados and a tour in Grenada.

Entertainment: We went to three shows. Comedy and the singers and dancers. We were very happy with the entertainment.

Tours: We were offered three tours for being in the Owner Suite (Galley, Bridge and Theater). I have done all three many times. The ladies were very happy enjoyed the tours. Great Job Jewel of the Seas for offering all three. No other ship we've been on have ever offered us all three.

Suite Party: It was in chops. Truly awesome. They made several different martini's and poured them when the glasses were stacked. They had all different types of drinks available. The food was really awesome. Sushi, shrimp cocktail, chocolate covered strawberries and other snacks. A very nice spread. Many of the ships officers were there but never saw the captain.

Solarium: It was a port intensive cruise so we only spent one day by the pool in the Solarium. Very nice, clean and we ate at the snack bar. The roast beef sandwich was to die for.

If anyone has any questions, I would be happy to answer them for you if I can. thank you!

Now, for balance, book them on Majesty on a 3 day cruise on an inside cabin ;) Off to read the rest of your report, thanks in advance. Its a long wait for Jewel for me. Same itinerary.

Thanks, we are doing this same itinerary next week. Heard this week's sailing was delayed for a deep cleaning. Did you notice, or hear of any noro on your sailing? Did you go to any of the other live entertainment such as the pianist in the schooner?

We are not in a suite but are diamond so hope to be able to take advantage of some of those benefits. Have been on Jewel before and very much enjoyed.

We did hear there were a few people on the ship with the Noro virus. I told my friends to keep cleaning their hands and to not touch the banister's.

We did not go to the Schooner. We spent all of our cocktail hour in the Concierge Lounge. It was so port intensive. Having to get up early every morning, we were just to tired to do to many activities. We did go to the Centrum night during 50/60's night. It was crowded and fun to watch.

They wouldn't let my friends use the Diamond Lounge however, I did pop in there one night to take a look and it was dead. No one in there. The Concierge Lounge was always filled with lots of folks and the energy was really uplifting.

Do you recall the name of the beach in St Croix? You mentioned it is to the right off the cruise pier. Can you tell me the length of the walk? I looked at the St Croix board, but the beaches mentioned there are 10-15 minute walk partially along a "treacherous" road. Thanks so much!! :)

Colorado Babe,

You said you had an early air departure, and the concierge escorted you off the ship. This sounds wonderful. We are in a Grande Suite, I know, I know, not an owners suite, but for us it is a step up. We have what I consider an early flight also. How did you approach the subject with the concierge? I am still a bit nervous about getting to the airport in time for our flight. How long did it take you to get from the ship, though customs and to your plane? I do have a private car reserved to take us to the airport.

Thanks for any information you can provide!

If you are lucky enough to have Diego he will do this for you. He may ask you what time you want to get off the ship. If not, just mention to him your concern. He will take care of it. No problem getting a taxi.

I don't know the name of the beach but as you go off the ship hang a left and walk down the path. 5 minute walk.

You can always get an escort off ship by concierge. It's a perk for GS and above. Diego will ask you when he offers to print your boarding passes. If he doesn't, just ask him. We were off ship in just about 15 minutes, caught a cab right away and at airport in about 20 minutes.

is there a steam room and sauna on the jewel?

And if so are they complimentary or is there a charge

?

You can buy a thermal spa package that includes these, I think I paid $99 for a 5 day and $129 for a 7 day. Includes these chairs.

I don't believe there is any free steam or sauna (its been 3 years)
