On the Conquest tonight and never have I heard so much door slamming on this cruise . No one knows how to close their door slowly and close it lightly so you don't hear it 10 doors down . Also the welcome aboard show was horrible. Been away from Carnival since 2013 and this probably our last cruise with them after 7 cruises. Cuts everywhere , Guys burgers is the only plus on this cruise so far!!

If Guy's is the only plus then it has to be a horrible cruise because Guy's is the most over rated burger in the world.

Lots of inconsiderate door slamming on the Dream last month too. I spent quite a bit of time relaxing on our balcony and did notice that. It's really not that hard to close it quietly . We didn't go to the welcome aboard show, but did see a couple others and really enjoyed them as they did have the full band, about 18 singers/dancers and lots of props. But the ship just got out of drydock and I've heard they have gone to the Playlist shows now. Food wasn't very good for the most part, I always gain weight on a cruise but not this time. I actually lost 3 pounds. And they took my favorite breakfast item, smoked salmon, off the room service menu. 😥. We plan to try a different cruise line next time, maybe Princess, Celebrity or Holland America and see if we enjoy them. Carnival has a nice price, but we've experienced too many cut backs since our first Carnival cruise.

Door slamming seems to be a problem on all ships, not just on Conquest. It's a complaint that is frequently mentioned on here, as well as other social media sites. I wonder, if people were to complain directly to Carnival, instead of on here, if Carnival would do something to fix the problem, like installing door closers that would prevent the balcony doors from slamming shut. And this isn't a recent problem. It's been going on for years.

Pax aren't slamming the doors. The doors springs won't allow slamming. The doors are naturally loud. Changing or adjusting the door closers might help.

It's hard to keep those doors from slamming. Not everybody is blessed with upper body strength.

Wonder if those complaining live in single family detached houses? We could hear front doors close several floors up and down DD's apt building. Marble floors and doors that put the Gringott's high security vault doors to shame.

Princess has sliding doors. While they are quieter, we've had to call maintenance on about half our cruises because the doors are whistling.

We are Diamond on CCL and have now done 3 cruises on Princess. In many ways Princess is like Carnival used to be with regular production shows and a huge platter of smoked salmon at buffet every morning.

I gave up on Carnival a ways back also. They just don't deliver a quality product anymore. It's sad that a frozen hamburger cooked on a grill is the highlight of so many passengers cruise. Putting a famous name in front of it makes it special.

It's really not difficult to keep the door from slamming shut. Unless you have the upper body strength of a kitten, it's fairly easy to hold the door handle and control the door as it closes.

HAL's ships are ugly. No atrium. GS is down in what looks like a basement. Food was the worst ever on Oosterdam, tasted like water.

Lots of door slamming on Pride in mid January. Thought my neighbors were having a party and went to look. It was the room steward who slammed the balcony door 4 times in about 30 seconds. I asked him to stop slamming doors, it's inconsiderate. "Oh." was his response.

This is not true. The doors may have "springs" but they don't work. I had a handicapped cabin and the door did have the spring and it worked like a charm.

I know many people that have been cruising for a few years are looking to move upscale to get back some of that feel that cruising had 15 years ago. My Wife put it well when she told me that Carnival cruises had moved from a more pampered experience when we first started cruising to now being like a floating Holiday Inn.

Carnival will always have a place though and probably always be the most cruised line. I am not going to take the whole extended family on a Holland or Celebrity cruise.

As people have said it is very hard to slam a door so it makes a loud sound. We have found out though that if both your balcony door and hallway door is opened at the same time the sound it makes when closing the hallway door can be compared to a sonic boom. We learned this the hard way when I was opening the balcony door to come into the cabin and my sister just happened to be coming in from the hallway at the same time.

Not only did the sound wake up the dead but it also resulted in a small tornado of flying papers throughout our cabin.

That small tornado can dry out a wet bathing suit real quick.:D

We just got back from a B2B on the Conquest: 02-04 and 02-12-2017, the latter being the cruise you are commenting on. Unfortunately you never can predict when you'll have noisier neighbors or door slammers on your cruise.

Our first cruise on 02-04 it was as quiet as you could hope for around our cabin, I only heard an occasional door slam and no noise whatsoever from any of the cabins around us. Now on the second cruise on 02-12 it was a different story altogether; very loud talking and laughing in a cabin near us, kids loudly running down the hall. Fortunately we aren't usually in our cabins very long and we can both sleep through a tornado so it didn't bother us that much.

The first leg was an 8 day and the second leg was a 6 day, and it is the general consensus of cruisers that shorter (cheaper) cruiser tend to attract more younger kids and teens who sometimes generate more noise than older adults.

I noticed a couple of strange differences between the two cruises. On the 8 day the casino was packed with heavy smokers..... I usually don't mind smokers but the casino was so crowded it was hard to move around in and the smoke so thick I didn't drop as much $$$ as I usually do. On deck 10 where the comfy chairs and sofas are I never had a problem finding a sofa when I went up there to read. On the 6 day cruise the casino was much less crowded and thus the smoke was tolerable. However deck 10 was much more crowded and I had to often settle for a chair instead of a sofa to read in.

This was my 13th cruise with Carnival we have also been away from cruising since about 2013. Yes, things have changed over the years but we still had a great time on both cruises and really enjoyed the ship and crew. I hope your cruise got better for you as the days went on.

John

Can tell you from experience that if you have your balcony door open and you try to enter/exit from the hallway; there is no gentle way to shut your door. It creates a wind tunnel effect and all your strength just to get the door to shut again. May be part of the problem. But that happens everywhere.

I agree about the door slamming. It' so annoying that we get oceanview rooms now, instead of balconies. People just drop the balcony doors instead of shutting them.

Totally agree. It takes nothing at all to hold on to the handle and guide the door shut. The door slamming comes from people opening it, going through and letting the handle go completely. So very inconsiderate. Same with the hallway doors. Even my kids from the first time we cruised knew how to do it properly and they were 5 and 7.

That is a simple solution - don't open both doors at the same time.

Yes, but I assume you pay for that increased service?

Sliding doors. Problem solved. Most other cruise lines have them. Plus it saves space. Not sure why Carnival doesn't install them.

Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Agree. Absolutely loved them on Celebrity. Plus they have them in the Havana Cabanas so it's not like they don't know how to install them.
