Carnival Glory Construction Cruise

Just got off Carnival Glory 2/11=2/18, 2017. The cruise was terrible, they are bringing the ship into dry dock but they decided to start the Demolition Construction on our cruise. First they put up a big blue tarp around the top half of the pool area. Next day they started to take down the twister slide. Next day they usesd torches to finish cutting down the slides ,much acrid smoke and and noise, also the open flame was scary. It gets better they start using a jackhammer to remove one of the pools, the.noise was bad, it would bounce back and forth from the big TV into the pool area. Also the noise traveled down into the lobby. First cruise I have been on that you could get a lounge chair by the pool and serinety area anytime. We were forced to get away from the noise by getting off the ship at ports of call so as to avoid all the noise Another issue was the ceiling on the Lido deck and many decks below that had ladders and electrical wires hanging all over. No workers were around to help us get around the mess. I have photos that I took with my phone to prove all of this. Filed a complaint on the ship and called Carnival when we got home. All they said was they were aware of the problem. Carnival says it is a FUN Ship, give me a break. New name the Construction Ship. By the way we were not notified before the cruise of this work. Cruisers Bill of Rights says only for Emergency Repairs do they not have to notify us. Next cruise I will call to make sure no Construction SHAME ON CARNIVAL we had to pay for there Construction work

There is another thread about this that has photos to prove the OP's story. I have never complained on any of the 20 cruises we have taken. However, had this happen to us I would be beyond livid! So sorry OP.

I feel bad for everyone on the last 2 glory cruises. I found out about this a few weeks ago but can't remember how. Here Facebook or E-mail

Evan the notice I got was so late most could not have changed plans anyhow. The notice also said work would be done post dry dock as well.

In preparation for the new Waterworks, the forward pool, whirlpool and water slide are currently out of service now through March 25. Waterworks will be completed post dry dock. Please note,*this is the forward pool and whirlpool on deck 10 and will not affect food service or deck parties that are on Lido deck 9. While under construction, the mid ship pool, aft pool and whirlpools are open for guest use.

You only need to look at the live webcams on Glory now (part way thru a cruise and another cruise next week before dry dock starts) to see what a mess Lido deck & deck 10 is at the moment in the mid-ship area, like a building site. Very surprised they would make such a mess of one of the main focal points of the ship during actual cruises. I've accepted now we won't have any waterworks for our cruise, but I sincerely hope they at least take down those horrid barricades and canvas screens in time for when we sail.

Here's the link if you wanna see for yourselves, you should be able to get the Aft webcam of the glory from here:

That's on old pic from when they first started I believe. Seems like it was posted somewhere in another thread as it looks very familiar. The Aft webcam has been "Down for maintenance" for a while now. At least it is whenever I check it. Anyway, I feel bad for those with the affected cruises and hope it's done in time for yours. But I don't see them removing the barricades until construction is done. It would be a safety hazard otherwise. They need to contain any debris and keep people from entering. Fingers crossed for you.

Some people ask why someone would use the vacation guarantee...this seems to me to be a perfect example (IF it impacted your cruise). I'm sure you could also find folks that perhaps had a low deck room, attended a lot of trivia, bingo, and activities - without spending time on deck. They might not have even noticed that their were issues while being on the same cruise. Those scheduled on the after dry dock cruises might want to read the vacation guarantee.

I'm not a complainer either - but this is a PLANNED and non-emergency shut down of services you have paid for! This only benefits Carnival, in that they will continue to generate revenue during what should be dry dock maintenance. No different than shutting down the MDR to recover the chairs and telling all the full-paying passengers that they can just eat in the buffet. NOT acceptable. If they had marketed this as a pre-drydock construction cruise and lowered the price to reflect the decrease in amenities than there would be no issues... but I imagine y'all are paying the same as all the folks that will get to enjoy the new and improved Glory next month.

I would bet if people went to guest services and threatened to invoke the guarantee' date=' Carnival would throw money at them.[/quote']

I can say with confidence that the guarantee was invoked last cruise on glory and no money or obc was offered.

We two just came off this cruise but we being in our 60's we didn't have a problem with this at all. In fact this was one of the very best cruises we have taken. It was out 16th cruise and we cruise on both Carnival and RCI. The shows where top notch and there was always something going on on the ship. Our servers both room and rest. was fantastic as well. We also did the check in at the airport and that was great.

I do agree Carnival should have reported this construction to guest and offered on board credits for the inconvenience or option to change cruises.

So completely wrong. i don't know which would have made me more angry- rhe noise, the tarps, or the unexpected lack of slides. I've cruised with kids- they would have been really disappointed if the slides were suddenly down. I've also cruised a 12 day B2B where the fog horn was blaring every minute we were at sea- enough to drive you insane but what can you do. Necessary. In this case, carnival knew well in advance and should have let people know so they could switch cruises. The appearance of all those tarps is unacceptable. I get that they need to make repairs and updates but for something scheduled so far out in advance- don't do it on our dime, Carnival. Take the ship out of service for another week. But of course they don't want to lose the $$$

Unacceptable.

My wife and I just got off the February 11 Glory cruise. We had booked this cruise extremely last minute and had no idea about the dry dock. If we had known about the constant metal cutting and construction zone we would have gone on a different cruise out of Puerto Rico. I can't imagine the higher ups at carnival thinking this is ok, I do understand about spending the least amount of time in dry dock, but this was so ridiculous. In their corporate greed, they seem to have lost their way in maintaining an acceptable appearance of a ship and decency to passengers. When my wife complained to customer service they seem to love to pull out their legal agreements and customer contracts, but never just apologize or acknowledge a problem, it is a " we can do what we want" attitude and it is pathetic. We got to go to grand caymen, Belize, isla roatan, and Cozumel and we finally got to see little French key, cave tubing, and zip lining, we got to go to mr. sanchos as well, so the trip was enjoyable, just not the ship part. Carnival would be better served by showing their best, not what they can squeak by with.

I am among the "easily pleased" crowd...almost impossible to have a bad cruise. The optics looks bad on this one Carnival.....ship should have been taken out of service until an upgrade of this magnitude is totally completed. I can understand passengers being upset.

My DH, a few other friends we've gotten to know through cruising, and I have been talking about this and saw the pictures posted in another thread. Was anyone on the cruises that this "pre-drydock" construction is taking place notified ahead of their cruise with option to cancel and rebook or OBC or anything?

We weren't notified, they barely acknowledged it

That's what we've all been wondering after seeing the pictures in the other post yesterday. I could not find ANYTHING to state that the passengers affected were given any advance notice of this. We love cruising with Carnival and normally have no complaints, but they definitely dropped the ball here.
