Anthem of the Seas - Live Review 3/5/17-3/12/17

Recommended Posts

Following along. We are going to be sailing her in December.

I think someone already asked about the smoothies in the Solarium. I'd love to see a menu of them as well, if you have a chance to get over there.

Have a fabulous trip!!!

we are on this sailing as well, puzzle break is no longer available to be booked online. It was specifically marked when I was in cruise planner this morning.

Not sure about the breakfast.

I'm sorry, I haven't had time to read the whole thread yet, but I wanted to catch you before you were off of the ship.

If you are able to get some of the Cruise Compasses from your sailing to post, I would really appreciate it. I saw that you already posted some menus, so thank you in advance. As soon as I get home from my business trip, I plan on diving deep into this thread and my planning.

My family and I are currently on this cruise and I'll add some observations we've come across since boarding five days ago. First, the weather has been fantastic. Second, I've only been on two other cruises on Norwegian Breakaway that were the same intinerary as the one we're currently on (in fact, the Breakaway has been following in our shadow making the same stops this week) and it's my only point of comparison.

Positive

1) The internet service is fantastic, streaming of videos works just fine and I haven't had any reception issues anywhere on the boat.

2) Boarding was much easier than I could've hoped for and being able to drop off passengers and luggage before parking helped tremendously.

3) Service has been exemplary and staff seem genuinely friendly and willing to help.

4) The Adventure Ocean staff have been great with my 3 year old kids and have exhibited great patience with their "nonsense".

5) The pool area is dramatically bigger than Breakaway with both indoor and outdoor options. However, the kids section is lacking consisting of a wading area as opposed to the fountains and sprinklers found on Breakaway.

6) The casino is smack dab in the middle of Breakaway and as a family it's hard to avoid the smoke and casino crowd. On Anthem, the casino is nicely hidden on a low deck.

Not-so Positive

1) Because my kids can't really endure a sit down meal, most of our dining has been in the Windjammer. I have found the selection a bit limited and the choices not as varied. When we sailed on Breakaway it seemed as if the choices rotated dramatically from night to night. In the Windjammer, the same vegetable, fish, and pasta dishes were on offer each night. There was some variation in protein (they had lamb shank one night which was quite good) but even so, it feels like we're eating at the same restaurant night after night. Also, one of my kids has a diet that basically consists of chicken fingers and hot dogs. While hot dogs have been available every meal, I have not seen a single chicken finger in the buffet which I think is kind of weird. In terms of quality, I really can't say it's much different than Breakaway.

2) Unless you've booked everything you want to do in advance, forget about trying to get a time. Some of the more popular activities had close to an hour wait.

3) We're on 10 and in some elevators the 10 button doesn't work.

All in all, we've had an enjoyable time.

Dang, Ann! I see that you are sailing on Anthem on May 20th. We will be getting off on May 20th. We are doing a B2B, May 6 & May 11. You will enjoy Anthem. You have to do the bumper cars.

Solarium is included but I do think they have, like in main dinning room, upcharge on lobster and fillet mignon. As far as the time goes I think when we were on the ship it was open till nine. So maybe nine is the last reservation.

Thank you!!! I'm glad to hear that.

Hoping the original poster is having such a good time and is able to post a review on sea days. I love how everyone is asking/answering questions here!

I agree with you. I was enjoying her posts, but wondering how she had the time to post.

Hope OP is enjoying the cruise!

If checking back in, I've read some are curious about whether ESCAPE FROM THE FUTURE BY PUZZLE BREAK is still on Anthem? We did not see it on our recent sailing, nothing on the Royal IQ or anywhere else, but perhaps we just missed it.

It's mentioned on cruise planner, but not available to reserve. I was told to ask at Sea Plex when I get on board. I have no idea what it is, but two words hooked me; escape and puzzle.

Do you know if they will customize a smoothie? I see one I might love, but it contains spinach. I need to limit my intake of green leafy vegetables. After a childhood of my mom encouraging them, who would expect them to now be my nemesis. So, all I want is to eliminate an ingredient. That shouldn't be a problem, unless they are mass made, like margaritas in some bars.

You can book the Dream Works Breakfast on the Cruise Planner under Activities. Personally, I would have expected it to be under Dining. But hey, I'm not in the business.

Are iFly and Northstar the only activities with hour waits? If not, what others? I would like to try Anthem with my family but not quite sure routinely standing in line is what I want to do on a cruise.

ladyj-46 we will also be on your cruise. Did you join our meet and mingle? I joined but I might be showing up alone as my DH is not a MM person, lol. We signed up for puzzle as we did not do it last cruise. We also have pretty much all our beach stops planned. Now I just have to hope and pray my summer stuff fits, it was a long winter, lol.

Are the smoothies included with the drink package?

I've read they are included with the Deluxe, but not the Refreshment. Kind of a bummer, cause my kids would love to have them, too.

Hopefully someone else can chime in a confirm?

You will be fine with your slacks and blouse. Last year was the first time my husband didn't take a tux or suit, just a sports jacket, dress slacks, no tie, no problem. They are lax about their dress code. Most of the shows are great. We have done 16 cruises and Anthem was our best yet, liked it so much that 2 days after returning last year we booked again for this year, 42 more days!!!

Marg

How many formal days on the 5 Day Bermuda and what day is it?

Thanks,
