Possible to upgrade after final payment at a lower price?

I am booked on Sunshine in June from Norfolk. Currently, we are on deck 10 in an 8S. After final payment, would I be allowed to upgrade to deck 11 or 12 into a 8T , if the price for that is lower than what I paid? I know Carnival would accept money for an upgrade, but would they give OBC if a higher category cabin is lower? Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Keep in mind that prior to final payment you are able to take advantage of price drops or make any room changes you like because at that point your cruise fare is 100% refundable. So you are essentially canceling for free and rebooking current rates (even though they often will just do it without formally canceling and rebooking)

After final payment there are cancellation penalties. So they really aren't obligated to make any booking changes without charging cancellation fees. Usually if you are upgrading to a more expensive cabin they are happy to do that without charging any penalties. But don't expect much else.

It would be helpful to know which type of fare you have booked. Different fare types have different rules.

We had an aft balcony on the Valor (ES) when she did the southern caribbean run (2014 I think). I noticed that suites weren't selling very well so I kept an eye on them. Wound up "upgrading" to a suite and getting a $75 refund for difference in fare :D.

Even knowing you have a casino offer I can't say for sure if you could upgrade. I had a premier booked OV and the balcony staterooms price came down to an amount I was willing to pay . Because it was a Premier I was unable. Apparently, X number were allotted as Premier and there were no longer "premier eligible" balcony's. To move to a balcony I would have had to forfeit my Premier offer and book the balcony. That OV was just fine, thank you.

If it were me I would be asking before the offers expire not after final payment. After the offer expires you can't make changes and keep the Premier status.

For casino rates it's very tricky to get changes made after the final payment is due.

Your best bet would be to email the OPC, and ask for a printout of your specific offer's terms and the current promotion's terms, to see if they allow it.

Thanks for all the responses. We don't have a Premier cruise, our rate for this 5 day is almost $900 each. I don't know why they offered this

small discount to us. We don't lose too much there. I was just hoping that if the next level of cabins price went down, that we could move up one deck, and get OBC for the difference in price.

This update is to inform the group about what Carnival was able to do for us. I asked to upgrade my reservation from an 8s to an 8T. The cost to upgrade was less than what I paid for the 8s cabin. The PVP refunded my credit card $250.
