Wine in Checked Bags

If you have ever watched your bags being loaded and unloaded from those huge freight carriers at the port that are handled by huge fork lifts, you may think twice about putting glass, breakable items in your luggage. The stevedores that load and unload your bags are not normally known for their delicacy in handling bags. Plus, if your bag is soft sided, and is on the bottom of the carrier, with 50 bags on top of it, you may have all red clothes to wear on your cruise. And the HAL baggage people will be laughing as they wrap your bag in plastic and deliver it to your cabin, and place it into the bathtub.

So, I can bring 4 bottles and pay the corkage for either 2 or all 4 to drink with dinner? That sounds reasonable as the wines on board are quite expensive. I think that will do it. Thank you.

 

 

 

It's my understanding that each person over 21 can bring as many bottles of wine as they want onboard, they just have to pay the $18 per bottle corkage fee on all but one bottle.

Yes. That's what we usually do. We have never taken advantage of the "free" wine because we drink our wine with dinner.

You can bring wine onboard and pay corkage at dinner or drink it in your cabin. We have done the Hawaii cruise out of san Diego with friends and brought a case each no problem other than it's heavy to lift on to the security table.

Ok, the next question is about purchasing wine in Amsterdam's airport. In order to get it on the plane, we would have to put it in checked bags, then move it to carry on. I don't want to do that!

 

Has anyone purchased wine at the airport after their flight? We arrive at 6:00 AM, so I don't even know if anything is open.

 

Your international departure airport will likely have a duty free shop where you could purchase wine to carry on board.
