often when you stand in line at guest services you get to heard the problems of the people in front of you, most of the time its small things and you can often feel sorry for the guest. sometimes you listen and you feel sorry for the guest service person ( the purser ) who is having to try to fix a complaint so crazy and outrageous you can't help but wonder if that guest crawled out from under a rock and onto a cruise ship.

If you have heard a complaint like this please share it here so we can all have a laugh

On my Vista cruise last month I was waiting in the D/P/FTTF GS line and there was a couple being helped right there to the right of me. She kept asking for an upgraded cabin because she didn't like the one she had. Claimed she was getting sea sick (the ship was still docked). He replied that her cabin was down low and that is actually better than being up high. She wanted to hear none of it and was adamant about being moved. He kept telling her the ship is full and there are no other cabins. She insisted her TA told her that all she would need to do was ask for an upgrade upon boarding the ship. He kept telling her no and if she was that unhappy with her cabin choice then she should have changed it at some point when she booked a year and a half ago.

She then threw out there "Well then what do I have to do about getting off the ship?!" To which he politely responded "Simply gather your things and walk off the gangway as we are still docked" while extending his left arm in the same direction. Well that threw her for a loop. Finally she realized that she wasn't going to get her way and left.

And no I wasn't being nosy, she made it a point that she wanted the attention. You would have had to be deaf in order not to know what was going on.

I do not make a practice of eavesdropping on others' conversations in line, as it is none of my business.

then you dont have anything relevant to post to this thread, so why post anything at all?

One woman wanted a refund for the difference between an oceanview and an inside cabin because she had salt on her window and it was obstructing the view.

Yeah. It was SO ridiculous! I think that maybe she thought that if she threatened to leave, they would magically find her a cabin. Not so much! [emoji23]

Oh and the GS person did say that so many people before her had asked the same question and he told them all the same thing - that they are sailing full and he doesn't know why people every cruise do that. The ships sail full nowadays.

While it may have worked "back in the day", don't bother with asking for an upgrade. Pick the cabin you want and be happy with it. GS is already overwhelmed with people that (hopefully) have legit issues to take care of. Go enjoy your DOD on Lido and have a great cruise!

Now I've heard everything.

No you haven't , while standing in the priority line a group of people started screaming profanities at me and those that were behind me . Telling me the line started behind them . Guest Service would not wait on me for fear of a mob mentality .

Those that were in my line started to leave, I stayed and ignored the rowdy people .

Security was called and tried to explain that we were in the proper line. Finally we were waited on and some of the rowdy bunch showed their appreciation and indicated with their middle finger that we were number one . So this would be my crazy complaint .

I don't have anything specific, but on the Splendor cruise that limped it's way back to Miami in Feb: People were yelling at the captain, wanting full refunds. I have never heard as many complaining passengers as I did on that cruise. The poor folks at guest services were overwhelmed with lines for 2-3 days.

We had avert a docking due to sea state and being a Captain I totally understood, it was not tenable. This was St. Martin and I actually had some business to take care of. Some people became unglued at the guest services, wanting free cruises and other crazy requests. My wife and I are were at a bar and this loud mouth guy is saying Carnival does this all the time to make money in the casino. If he only knew how ridiculous his argument is, safety is Carnival's # 1 concern. I was watching there was no way he was going to safely dock.

On our Dream cruise the itinerary was changed from an eastern Caribbean to a western Caribbean because of a hurricane headed to where we were scheduled to be. Several people were screaming that they were going to sue Carnival if the captain did not take them to St. Thomas because that's where their contract said we were going. Uh, no... you better read that again! I just kind of laughed and walked on by! I'm just glad they DIDN'T take us to St. Thomas!

I have some sympathy for this dilemma, the salt on the windows is often thicker than a salt lick block.

I have had dirty windows but at no point would I expect to get money back. There's still natural light and a heck of a lot more room in an OV than an inside. Now if the window was boarded up, then I would since no light could get through. Just my opinion.

On the Jubilee the salt was so thick day looked like night. I didn't ask for money but reading that post made me sympathize with the person. See the difference?

I didn't say you asked for money and I have had dirty windows too. My point being that I think it was a little extreme for them to be asking for the difference in fare for an OV vs inside.

They didn't ask for a free cruise which seems to be the norm.

On Norwegian Gem in February 2016 I was at guest services behind a man who was complaining about the lack of sufficient hot water in his shower that morning - insisting that he be given a credit of one day's cruise fare - -- because that is he gets a refund on his hotel/motel bill whenever there is no hot water in his room. I got the distinct impression that it happened to him quite a lot.

We went to leave our stateroom one night and a man was outside the cabin next door screaming at the room steward. He was so mad he was shaking. I heard him say that not having the balcony divider open was ruining his cruise. I assumed he had family on the other side of him. Later that day when we were back in the stateroom, the steward knocked on our door and asked if we wanted the divder open between our balcony and the man next door. We explained we did not know the man. The steward said he was aware of that but that the man would not stop complaining so he thought he would ask. The man was traveling with just his wife, in the same stateroom.
