Underway53 Posted April 30, 2017 #26 Share Posted April 30, 2017 Hahaha. I'm a teacher. All I have are emotionally disturbed students. That's my specialty. I can't wait to get on the boat. I plan to give all my attention to my wife and my own kids. It is what it is! A family friendly vacation and not just my family!!!
Dilligaff Posted April 30, 2017 #27 Share Posted April 30, 2017 I was on the Triumph last weekend. And there was kids in all the pools and hot tubes. There was less kids in the pool on deck 9 aft. We really didn't see many that was being bad. But you will always have that issue. But kids was all over including in the casino area because they had bands in there playing and the kids was with their parents. I was pleased with how it went. Just look at the fun times and plan where you wanna be. Based on when you go will be based on how many kids are there. As others has said you set the mood and how much fun you make of it. Can't let others ruin your vacation.
Athankfulheart Posted April 30, 2017 #28 Share Posted April 30, 2017 If you cannot alter your plans, perhaps you can alter your attitude ? Not being snarky.. just realistic. If you go with the expectation that you'll be running and trying to hide from mass numbers of poorly behaved kids, then that is exactly what you will experience. My favorite advice is to ignore the things that you don't like. Thats what we do every time. As a result, I honestly can't recall any real issues on any of my cruises with any line. Actually, I do remember one from my last cruise in January, but those were adults who saved but never sat in a clamshell on Serenity all day long and had a hissy fit at the head of security when someone took "thier seat". ExpatBride Posted April 30, 2017 #30 Share Posted April 30, 2017 I don't want to be cruel, but if it's extremely important to you that you avoid children and teenagers (it is to me) then you should've looked into this aspect of cruising before booking a cruise on Carnival. I see very few children and teenagers on my cruises, which I book outside of school holidays, on longer itineraries, and smaller ships. I agree that HAL would be a good choice. They cannot book a cruise outside of school holidays, They cannot go on longer itineraries during the school year. The smaller ship idea as a good suggestion, as well as HAL. OP, any chance you can cancel Carnival and do a HAL cruise? Celebrity tends not to have a lot of kids on them also.

DreadPirateRobert Posted April 30, 2017 #34 Share Posted April 30, 2017 Which lines would those be? Celebrity and Viking River Cruises. There will be kids on Celebrity but not as many on the longer cruises we have booked. It doesn't appear that Celebrity's market focus is families with younger children. lizardhowson Posted April 30, 2017 #35 Share Posted April 30, 2017 We are leaving NOLA on the Triumph to celebrate an adult birthday and anniversary. We want to be able to swim, hot tub, eat, and drink without children that parents dont watch. Im a teacher, I know how that goes. Suggestions? Dont say take another cruise, this is the one we are taking for a lot of reasons. No chance of this, Obviously, you failed to plan a "no children" cruise correctly.

Purvis1231 Posted April 30, 2017 #39 Share Posted April 30, 2017 I am an educator also, I understand the desire to get away from children for a little bit. Unfortunately a ship without a Serenity deck is not a good place to find escape from kids so I would set my mind to have a good time and remember while on vacation unless the kids are wearing your genes you are not responsible. howsly Posted April 30, 2017 #40 Share Posted April 30, 2017 I know it's too late for this cruise, but in the future avoid Carnival like the plague. It seems no matter when you book a Carnival cruise, it's lousy with kids, running down the halls, peeing in the hot tub, screaming in the dining room. Parents are MIA,after all they're on vacation. In my experience, I haven't been on Crystal or Regent, HAL and Celebrity have much fewer kids. Cruises over 7 days and when school is in session, will be much more enjoyable. Late seating is a must. I wonder why cruise lines don't offer at least a few adult only cruises? Sent from my iPad using Forums
evandbob Posted April 30, 2017 #41 Share Posted April 30, 2017 I'm getting to the age demographic where Holland America will be my 1st choice for cruising. YIKES! In the meantime, I'll use my balcony on Carnival ships, or Serenity if it has one.
bralli Posted April 30, 2017 #42 Share Posted April 30, 2017 I have 5 kids and, yeah, we cruise a lot and we cruise when the kids are out of school. I'm kind of sensitive to rude parents but honestly I don't see that many of them on the ships (and I'm going on the "cheapskate" Long Beach cruise a lot). Usually the crowd that seems the most obnoxious to me are the loud groups of intoxicated middle aged women who seem to go off the rails when on vacation. My advice if you are sensitive to kids is to avoid the main pool area when possible. The higher decks (sun deck?) usually have available seating and plenty of sun. The dining room is usually not that bad. People with the out of control kids usually don't have the patience to sit through a long meal and tend to congregate at the buffet. Best of luck! finzleftright Posted April 30, 2017 #43 Share Posted April 30, 2017 I've booked a scuba trip, but I don't want to get wet or breath canned air.... Nope, not gonna happen. We book on Princess, because there are fewer children to deal with. We had booked a NCL cruise at one point, but then saw that there was a "Dora the explorer" program on the ship, and that convinced us to switch to a slightly less convenient and slightly more expensive Princess cruise instead. It was a wise decision. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
mcbridedori Posted April 30, 2017 #44 Share Posted April 30, 2017 cruised the triumph Easter week. 1000 children onboard! Carnival did a good job occupying them but there is no adult only area. On average there are 300 children per cruise on the triumph unless it's summer or Mardi Gras or Easter break

But you realize your fare doesn't get you any more than the next persons fare. Your fare SHARES the ship. If you want exclusivity, hire a yacht. deborahjo Posted April 30, 2017 #48 Share Posted April 30, 2017 I think the problem is NOT kids on a cruise... The problem is parents who DON'T PARENT their kids (at home, on a cruise, or anywhere). Or very barely do so. Just saying... There in lays the problem. But the parents are blind to this. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Rare Saint Greg Posted April 30, 2017 #49 Share Posted April 30, 2017 If you're going when school is out, you're going to be tripping on kids all over the place! I cruise when school is in session and there's usually only a few hundred instead of 1,000. If I were a teacher I would try cruising when my State is out of school but the port's state is in school. Not every state starts/ends at the same time or has the same spring break. I'd say that's your only hope as a teacher cruising on carnival.
