How to prevent Sea pass from getting demagnetized

After having my sea pass not work several time on one cruise, I've carried my sea pass card in a thin credit card pouch and it has not been a problem since (several cruises later.) I actually think any kind of barrier will work.

Same thing happened to me on our Equinox cruise in March. 5 times they had to change my card. Even though I had the same phone on previous cruises. In the end they gave me a plastic sleeve to put mine and my wife's cards in

I also had problems with my card on our March 3 Equinox cruise. I had to replace it several times and did not keep it near my cell phone or use a purse with magnet. I also started using the leather card holder that was in our cabin and that seemed to help.

I have a phone case by Speck that has a slot for a credit card, room key that carries the card and does not demagnetize it. I have used it on Celebrity ships and never has a problem. Only use the phone on the ship as a clock.

While the RFID cards aren't particularly expensive, good quality locksets are not cheap. A cost-benefit analysis of replacing every lock on every door on a ship would no doubt raise serious questions. It makes sense to instal RFID locksets on new builds, but I'm not convinced that there's a need or particular benefit for existing ships.

Celebrity Constellation is getting RFID cards in May this year! I think they are going to redo all the ships one by one.

As cruise beginners, upcoming cruise will be our second, one issue we had was that our Sea Pass kept getting demagnetized , and we ended up having to replace several times. Help

We ended up using lanyards.

Suggest clipping your cruise card to a lanyard. Hang around neck.

Use a RFID passport holder or wallet.

Don't have card near any electronic device i.e. cell phone, camera, any medical device that uses batteries.

Enjoy your cruise.

We were a group of 27 and everyone who does not have it on a lanyard inside a plastic holder had their seapass demagnetized at least once. I don't know why they don't switch to the RFID card. Disney cruise has it years ago and it was wonderful. Even Disney World 2 days pass has it..and it is disposable. It can't be that expansive to switch to it. I think I read that they are going to start using it on the Edge class.

BTW, if you have a piece of plastic or synthetic material on you, you could try to rub the strip on the card against it a few times and immediately try to open the door. It works often. I learnt that trick from the supermarket checkout when the cashier made my demagnetized credit card work by rubbing it against the plastic grocery bags.

Interesting trick, I'll have to try it.

Interesting decision. Possibly the aging M-class locksets need to be replaced anyway, so going to RFID was the logical choice. It would be interesting to know how often hotels and cruise lines need to change them. They must get a lot of use, more so on ships than in hotels, I would imagine.
