MDR was much better than expected (MDR review)

I just returned yesterday from the may 7 sailing from the carnival breeze. Contrary to what many have said on here I found the mdr to be of mostly good quality and I had pretty good service.

Over the course of the next couple days I will critique each meal I had with pics.

My servers were marko and mirsad in the sapphire dining late dining deck 4.

I did not take pics of too many menus but I will do my best to describe my dish and how good it was or wasn't.

First night. I had jalapeño poppers, fried shrimp and mac and cheese

The poppers were way better than expected. The fried shrimp were good and the mac and cheese was good as well. Very satisfied first night. I also had butter pecan ice cream my go to desert. 035f15432c6d7f31e033c2d255732a57.jpg06661928bf121e7555a7729fab22afa7.jpg2c755d7db2bb7b4ce5b6e8c2ed8721c1.jpg

If y'all want more just let me know this is day one.

It was a small portion of mac and cheese. But it was good mac cheese and bacon. The portion at the brunch menu was much bigger. I didn't get it but saw it on my neighbors table.

The mac and cheese serving is about the length of a knife handle? I may have to rethink this "quantity over quality" theory I have ascribed to Carnival MDR.

It's a side dish (not a main course).

I love food pics especially since it has been over 20 years since DW and I sailed on Carnival. We were attracted to the many food choices on the Sunshine. I know food is subjective but we normally can find something we both really enjoy. I'm a cheese-a-holic so looking forward to trying the Mac N Cheese with bacon.

The salmon and bagel are also a big go to for sea day brunch. I had already messed with this plate before I remembered I needed to take pic.

We are the the sit down mdr breakfast everyday except one. I think it beats slopping the hogs in the lido Buffett

But but but, this is totally contrary to what the haters here say that would have us believe Carnival MDR food is nothing more than slop that should be fed to pigs?

Nice review! Keep it coming! Love food porn!

First elegant night I had shrimp cocktail no pic pretty standard and my wife had wedding soup. No pic she said it was good. I usually like most bisques and soups on board.

I had shrimp and lobster.

The wife had sea bass

Yeah it was very passable. And tasty. Both cooked well and the sea bass was really good too. I will tell you that if I were to buy these dishes and apps and deserts in my hometown at some restaurant (if I could find them), they would run 100 bucks easy. As far as I'm concerned the mdr is one of the best values in the cruise industry.

As a side note me and my wife tipped both our waiters every night. While they gave us good service, I think they gave similar service to all other patrons around us and I don't think everyone tipped everyday like we did. If you want great service tip tip tip. Even a couple bucks a day you wouldn't believe the service you will receive.

I agree with you. We ate in the MDR each night. There were always many things we liked and had to choose one. Maybe one dish was so so, but it was all so plentiful. We also really enjoyed the sea day brunch, can you say filet mignon. It was amazing.

We only at lunch one time at the buffet, on embarkation day.

The Blue Igana and Guys Burgers were also a yummy alternative.

Portion size is just right (for my wife and I that is). Never too much. If you want more, there's a buffet on deck 9 or 10 that will serve you all you can eat. Trying two or three things because they are new or different, and multiple people want to try them, is one thing. Ordering 10 lobster tails for personal consumption just to prove a point is another.

Second sea day entre I had braised beef short ribs with mustard potatos and green beans in bacon.

It was good not great the meat was a little dry/over cooked. But hey I didn't leave any on the plate. Lol. 3682a5fec571b045e2d781d7f50ce49d.jpg
