tjmaher Posted May 17, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2017 My husband and I have rented a golf cart for the day. A few questions: How is driving on the road with the cars? How long to get around the island? Any advise on order we should make our stops? What stops NOT to miss? What should we miss? Place for a quick bite and a beverage? What beaches to stop at? Thanks for any and all help Nancy
Rare crewsweeper Posted May 17, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2017 It's British drive on the left. Just stay closer to the shoulder but not on the shoulder and cars and trucks will pass when it's clear. We like to head to the lighthouse first, stopping at the airport entrance to see the "real" John Glenn capsule. Then come back toward Cockburntown and hang a right at the traffic circle and head up to Pillory beach and Bohio Resort. There are several side roads and dirt roads that head into north Pillory but no facilities out there, just some houses. Then drive into Cockburntown along the main drag. Grab a bite at John's Ocean view as you come into town or head south a short ways to the Sandbar. Both great stops. Sandbar has a deck overlooking the beach and John's is right on the beach. There are some small shops in town and you can tour the old prison. Then head back to the cruise port. Two beaches on the way back. First is English Point, a bit rocky but no facilities and limited crowding. Then comes Governors Beach, which has limited facilities at best (maybe none now). Finally, a quick stop at the infamous Jack's Shack for a free rum sample or cold Turks Head before turning in the golf cart. With minimum time at stops, no lunch or even passing up stopping at some of the beaches and you can be back at the cruise center in under 2 hours. Rare crewsweeper Posted May 19, 2017 #4 Share Posted May 19, 2017 This. This is the exact same advise I give everyone. Well,we both missed saying you can go to the salt works. Not that you'd want to, but taxi driver tours often go. It's an island pride thing.

Rare mitsugirly Posted June 8, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 8, 2017 We rented a golf cart on our second trip to GT and had a blast. I have a full review, listed in my signature line, that has tons of pictures of our day there. We went to the Lighthouse and seen the donkeys, exploring around a bit on the way back from the lighthouse, went to BOHIO beach for awhile and had lunch, then headed to Governors Beach <---amazingly beautiful.
