Captain's/Officers' cocktail party?

I have read many times that the Elite cocktail hour is not held on embarkation evening nor the Officers' cocktail party. What exactly is that, please?

I have read many times that the Elite cocktail hour is not held on embarkation evening nor the Officers' cocktail party. What exactly is that, please?

 

On our last two cruises officers have seemed to socialise with guests more after the Captain's short speech than on previous cruises. They have been really nice events.

The Elite cocktail hour (HH) is between 5 and 7 and for Elite members and above to have free cocktails.

 

On the nights of those parties free drinks are given at them so the Elite cocktail HH isn't required.

Yeah, but as I recall, the Senior Officers event only lasts about 45 minutes because they have to get a couple of groups in for it, so they have a couple of events scheduled for that night.

OK. I was just trying to answer the question on why it wasn't offered on those nights. Didn't know that the extra time meant that much. In fact the parties would actually allow some to drink more than the 3 drinks that they would get if there were drink tickets. And if they were really desperate they could double dip as I am sure many do.
