cormike1 Posted June 22, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 22, 2017 Are the walls on the river cruise ships magnetic like the ocean cruise ships? I always bring strong magnet hooks to use on the walls to hang things on but it has been a long time since we river cruised and I can't remember. I try and bring things to make extra storage of items as the rooms are very small.

beauty1492 Posted June 22, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 22, 2017 Great question! On Viking Vi anyone know if the walls are magnetic?
cormike1 Posted June 26, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted June 26, 2017 By most of the answers posted on the thread Mark_T listed, it sounds like they are not because of wallpaper. Might have to try something else. Thanks Mark_T for that info.
Starlaker Posted June 26, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 26, 2017 On the Viking Modi. One wall is magnetic and I have my map and daily schedule attached with magnets. The other three walls are wood.
SuiteTraveler Posted June 26, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 26, 2017 The walls in our cabin on the SS Antoinette were fabric and they had original art in our stateroom along with expensive mirrors. But then, we also had plenty of storage, so no need for hooks on the walls at all.
Rare OneSixtyToOne Posted June 26, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 26, 2017 On the Viking Modi. One wall is magnetic and I have my map and daily schedule attached with magnets. The other three walls are wood. I was on the Viking Modi this time last year. Fond memories. Enjoy your cruise.
TeaBag Posted June 29, 2017 #8 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Couldn't use our magnets on the walls of the AMA Prima.
beauty1492 Posted August 18, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 18, 2017 Back from wonderful trip. One wall on Viking Gefjon was metal so the magnets worked.
cormike1 Posted August 19, 2017 Author #10 Share Posted August 19, 2017 Thanks everyone for your answer. I think it sounds like there might be 1 wall that might be magnetic. I might bring some small magnets along just in case. Thanks again.
Iamthesea Posted August 19, 2017 #11 Share Posted August 19, 2017 As I was packing for an AMA cruise, I was wondering the same about the walls.;) I too travel with the magnets. They also work well if you want to hang a towel onto those see-through shower doors (if there is a metal strip at the top of the glass). Great if you are traveling with someone other than your spouse. I have a phobia of the cabin steward coming in when DH is out of the room, and I am in the shower. :D I keep reading that the walls of some of these river cruise ships are fabric or wallpaper. Well the walls on ocean cruise ships also have a covering over the metal! I do have another question. It's about soundproofing. How about the walls on AMAViola and other AMA ships. Are they soundproof? Especially the cabins that connect.

cormike1 Posted August 24, 2019 Author #13 Share Posted August 24, 2019 Our last river cruise was about 2 years ago on the MS Media and the walls were wood paneled so no metal there.
Iamthesea Posted August 26, 2019 #14 Share Posted August 26, 2019 Since someone else brought this thread back alive, I will go ahead and answer my own above question for AMA. All walls but one (closet, vanity/desk, and connecting door) were magnetic. We did not need to use our magnets. There is a nice bathrobe hook system on the back of the cabin door. Plenty of storing space elsewhere! As for the noise between the connecting doors, we could hear occasional loud conversations and coughing when the occupants were near their door. Otherwise, it was either quiet, or muffled noises. Knowing that they might be able to hear us, we tried to talk in a quiet voice. However, I think they were hard of hearing because of the loudness of their voices.
