First-time cruiser sailing on the Oasis 7/16...a few questions

Recommended Posts

1. Do the bathrooms have a hairdryer?

2. Are there hangers in the closets?

3. Our documents say we can board from 11:30 to 3:30...what time do you suggest we get there?

I can't believe it is almost here! The forums have been terrific for my planning...thank you to all of you that take the time to post your experiences!

The hairdryers are near the desk in the main part of the stateroom. They cannot be used in the bathroom.

There are hangers in the closets, and you can get more from the stateroom attendant if needed.

I'd get to the terminal around 10:30am.

There are hairdryers, but they are not in the bathroom. They are near the main dressing mirror outside, in one of the drawers.

There are hangers in the closet.

As for when to get there- some will tell you be there at 10am to board as soon as the ship opens, others (like myself) will suggest a later time so that you can walk on board really close to when the rooms open up (1pm). The decider- how much do you plan to carry on board as you embark? If it's just a small bag with the bare essentials (medicine, swim suit, other stuff that you should always have with you), then carrying that around while you explore the ship isn't a big deal.

We carry all of our luggage on, so I'm not interested in lugging it anywhere more than our cabin.

Since this is your first, and you are likely to give your bags to the porters to be carried on via the normal system, I'd suggest getting their early- like 11am. There's SO much to see on the Oasis, it's mind boggling. But make sure the people with you have the bare essentials, including a swimsuit, that you carry with you on board.

Unless you have very short hair, or are not picky, would suggest bringing your own hairdryer. The hairdryers are "ok" but the kind that you have keep the button pressed in. You can only use at the stateroom desk/vanity. Same thing for any other hair appliance. The only plug in the bathroom is for razors.

Hangers are supplied. Ask your steward if you need more.

You can board earlier, but cabins are not available until around 1:00 p.m. Check your bags with porters, but keep your carryon with you. You should keep medicines, electronics, jewelry, etc., obviously anything of value. It is also a good idea to keep toiletries and/or change of clothing in case you want to clean up for dinner. Some people will also keep swimsuit, if you want to go in one of the pools. You may not get your main suitcase until early evening/late afternoon. There is a lot of baggage to distribute.

There is NO room in the bathroom to dry hair...it's tight...teeny....small. The hairdryer is in the vanity drawer in the cabin...but bring your own, as their provided dryer sucks. Gets hot, but doesn't blow worth a damn.

We like to arrive early and go to the Windjammer for lunch; that way it's easier to move through the buffet lines and then we go to the main dining room to check our table assignment. We then go back to the Royal Promenade to check out any spa offers etc that may interest us.

As a first timer on Oasis, you'll want to check out the public areas: Boardwalk, Central Park, the pools, gym, and so on. The casino and shops won't open until after departure, and you won't be able to go to your cabin until 1pm, but we love checking out the ship before the crowds have all boarded--a great time to get some pictures.

If you don't think you want the Windjammer for lunch, then try Central Park Café. They make great tossed to order salads, panini, soup, and their famous roast beef sandwiches.

I don't object to the provided hair dryer, it works fine for my thick, but short hair. One less thing to pack.

It has NOTHING to do with the size of the bathroom.

There is no outlet for a dryer in the bathrooms. The only outlets for the dryer are in the cabin.

Thanks for the replies. One other question:

We have 2 cabins for our family of 4...can we have access to both cabins on our sea pass cards?

Thanks for such helpful information!

No, but Guest Services might be able to give you extra key cards.
