asubaru Posted August 28, 2017 #51 Share Posted August 28, 2017 Someone could attempt to use a lost card, too. I have been under the impression that your picture shows on the computer screen when it is swiped for a charge. Is this not correct? I'd like the wristband idea; would be a lot more convenient for drink orders in the pool/hot tub. I assume they're waterproof. And when someone's wrist band breaks and I find it on the ground I can start charging up a lot of expenses on your bill.
sverigecruiser Posted August 29, 2017 #52 Share Posted August 29, 2017 I have never seen a loose card (or even a tight one) I'm sorry for my bad english. Since you didn't understood me, I meant that if someone drop there card or forget it somewhere someone can find it and use it.

Bra_BE2014 Posted August 29, 2017 #54 Share Posted August 29, 2017 Was simply point out that the two ways you mentioned were not the ONLY ways to deal with a card. BTW not wearing a belt is irrelevant, one can have belt loops and not wear a belt! :) True! I'll have a chance to try out the wristband on the MSC Meraviglia next month, curious to see if I'll love it or if I'll join the hate-wagon, lol Happy cruising! Also, the ship would need to put barcode readers on all cabin doors, so we could open them with the wristbands.
Dajbman22 Posted August 30, 2017 #57 Share Posted August 30, 2017 Please post back and let us know. My question would concern getting the wristband wet in the shower or pool. Also, the ship would need to put barcode readers on all cabin doors, so we could open them with the wristbands. The wristbands being discussed here that are being rolled out on other lines (and places like Disney World) are waterproof and contain RFID chips. They look more like thinner fitbits than the plastic bands you get at concerts and similar venues. There is no barcode to scan, you just tap the band on the device you are trying to interact with (a room lock, a pay station, etc) and it will recognize you. The readers for RFID devices would just replace the magnetic strip readers already on every door and at every till on the ship.
CasinoCruzGirl Posted August 30, 2017 #58 Share Posted August 30, 2017 (edited) I REALLY hope they do not. Wrist bands are a PITA for a one night concert etc let alone for a week long (or longer) cruise. Is it really all that hard to have your key card with you? You have an option to use it or not Sent from my iPhone using Forums Edited August 30, 2017 by CasinoCruzGirl
Rasvar Posted August 30, 2017 #59 Share Posted August 30, 2017 Not if they REPLACE cards. No one will just replace the cards. Not even Disney does that. You will have an option to do either one or both. I would probably use the wristband on ship and take the card off ship.
TQuila Posted September 2, 2017 #60 Share Posted September 2, 2017 I would like the RFID just for the convenience of not having to go to Guest Services to get a new card because mine got demagnetized. Again. (I swear I must be magnetic or something.) I could live with card or wristband, just get rid of that fragile magnetic strip!
TQuila Posted September 2, 2017 #61 Share Posted September 2, 2017 I despise RFID. Sensors can be literally anywhere and damn near everywhere, well hidden. I do not want big brother tracking my every move while I am on vacation. Next time you're on board, see how many cameras you can find. Then consider that there are only a few thousand people on that ship, and that they already have a photo of you, and ask yourself how hard facial recognition is for a computer with that limited number of subjects. don't-use-real-name Posted September 2, 2017 #62 Share Posted September 2, 2017 WRISTBANDS - the next thing that will happen is being micro-chipped like an animal ! Darn tecknowledgy anyway (purposely misspelled) ! Eye-ball Retina scans and DNA checks not withstanding ! What is this a CSI Cruise of convenience ? Good point. Facial Recognition is a part of many camera systems now. Mostly used for things like how long you stand in a spot so they learn what is Interesting to you and even what path you take. Cell phones are even better. Have wifi or Bluetooth turned on and you can be tracked that way as well and you don't have to connect to their network as those radios are always broadcasting a ID that can be seen. RFID is the worst thing for tracking as you need to be much closer to a reader. Compared that to wifi or camera systems and I can track every person who drives past my house Sent from my SM-G955U using Forums mobile app

Cyclops32 Posted September 2, 2017 #65 Share Posted September 2, 2017 Not any more. Many are readily available that read up to 50' and more. Those are for active RFID. What you have on wristbands are passive. You need to be close enough to provide the power to the RFID chip in a band. I have worked with both and is the field I work in. I help companies setup systems from multiple manufacturers to do this type of tracking and no one is going to spend the type of money that active RFID cost to track people within a 50 foot radius when you have cheaper and better systems that can track customers within 1-5 feet of accuracy and can tell what area you are looking at and at the same time provide their security with great camera quality. Plus the cost of cabling and power is all included because the tracking is done by the cameras system. Cyclops32 Posted September 2, 2017 #68 Share Posted September 2, 2017 For the amount of info they can farm they are actually not that expensive. An attitude of "no one is going to do it" is exactly what the black hats love to hear. I take it you are not involved in data security in any manner. You missed my point. If I can mine the same or more data for penny's per person (cameras) compared to mining less data on a customer for $50-$100 a person (RFID) which would you do? That is why I say no one will do it. No business is going to spend 1000% more for less. The only times we see customers interested in active RFID that can be read from 50 feet away is for tracking high dollar items that get stolen often. The whole point of talking about the technology is people should not be afraid of RFID bands. No cruise line is going to spend that amount it would take to install RFID tracking when they can get that same data plus more just using the cameras they already have installed. If they use RFID it will be lower power RFID and only for authorization such as making purchases and opening cabin doors. It is also true that RFID tags can store small amounts of data however companies want data stored on their servers where they can access it live and not on a band that a customer will throw away at the end of a cruise.
