atb Posted December 28, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 28, 2017 Miami is one of our port stops in march. Anything within walking distance of the port? Restaurants, things to do? This may turn into a sea day for us.
BNBR Posted December 28, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 28, 2017 You can walk across the bridge to Bayside Marketplace. Otherwise you would probably want a taxi/Uber. Even the walk to Bayside may be quite far depending on where your cruise docks. Lots and lots of awesome things to do in Miami if you decide to get out and explore. JohninDC Posted December 28, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 28, 2017 Uber or Lyft or taxi to South Beach - art deco architecture, people watching, beach, dining, art galleries, etc.
Flymia Posted December 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 29, 2017 I assume you never been to Miami with this question. Why in the world would it become a sea day? Miami is only one of the largest cities in North America and a huge tourist destination. Tons of things to do near the port and away from the port. What do you like to do? So we can provide more help. As for close to the port. When you dock you will see the port is smack in the middle of the city. Downtown is where the port is. Miami Beach is very close as well. Tons of dinning and shopping in downtown and brickell area. Bayside is a popular place to grab a tour boat and a drink.
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 29, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2017 We like to walk so yes we have walked from the port into Miami over the bridge which has a pedestrian walkway. From there you could go to Bayside which is a touristy area with shops and restaurants but I will worn you it is on the touristy side or you cold walk an addition 20 to 25 minutes to Brickell Centre which is more of a mall and a beautiful one with lots of stores and restaurants. Another option is to take transportation (taxi, uber, lyft) over to South Beach. Have them drop you off at the beginning of Ocean Drive with the beach on one side and the art deco hotels on the other side. From there you could walk for quite a while North and eventually it turns into a board walk. Or you could head over to Lincoln Drive. It's all fun with the beach and the ocean and lots of people and restaurants and shops. Keith
atb Posted December 29, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted December 29, 2017 We are not beach or water activity people. Have to avoid the sun. We have done a few things in Miami, but really like to just get off the ship and walk around.
BNBR Posted December 29, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 29, 2017 Why not do a tour? Lots and lots to see that isn't beach or water. Wynwood, Brickell, Little Havana, etc. etc.
OCruisers Posted December 29, 2017 #8 Share Posted December 29, 2017 Miami isn't a place we'd enjoy having a port stop so would probably stay on the ship.
JohninDC Posted December 29, 2017 #9 Share Posted December 29, 2017 South Beach is the "Miami" you usually see on the TV shows and movies - lots of shopping, dining, shopping, people watching, etc. No way we would stay on the ship, but it is your call. ;)

We are super excited for our in between day and this transportation info is very helpful! Our intention is to drop our luggage off at whatever hotel we are staying at and then go out and explore. atb Posted January 6, 2018 Author #12 Share Posted January 6, 2018 depending on the weather - we may do the free trolley to Bayside, and look for a great spot for lunch. Any recommendations? Would like Cuban or seafood, but we are flexible.
brunello22 Posted January 8, 2018 #13 Share Posted January 8, 2018 depending on the weather - we may do the free trolley to Bayside, and look for a great spot for lunch. Any recommendations? Would like Cuban or seafood, but we are flexible. Bayside: Cuban: Latin American Cafe Seafood: Largo (the Mahi Mahi is good) Nicaraguan: Los Ranchos (good lunch specials on weekdays; their specialty is the Baby Churrasco, but their Emerald fish special is very good too) Downtown: Peruvian: CVI.CHE 105 (excellent ceviche and seafood dishes - 1 block from Bayside on the west side on NE 3rd Ave & NE 1st St) Peruvian: Pollo y Jarras (next door to its sister restaurant to CVI.CHE 105) Another casual seafood option is Garcia's, located on the Miami River. Always fresh, as they have their own fishing boats, and have a seafood market inside. You would need an Uber or taxi to get there, but it's just a 5-minute ride from Bayside.
