Miami as port day

You can walk across the bridge to Bayside Marketplace. Otherwise you would probably want a taxi/Uber. Even the walk to Bayside may be quite far depending on where your cruise docks.

Lots and lots of awesome things to do in Miami if you decide to get out and explore.

I assume you never been to Miami with this question. Why in the world would it become a sea day? Miami is only one of the largest cities in North America and a huge tourist destination.

Tons of things to do near the port and away from the port. What do you like to do? So we can provide more help.

As for close to the port. When you dock you will see the port is smack in the middle of the city. Downtown is where the port is. Miami Beach is very close as well. Tons of dinning and shopping in downtown and brickell area. Bayside is a popular place to grab a tour boat and a drink.

We like to walk so yes we have walked from the port into Miami over the bridge which has a pedestrian walkway. From there you could go to Bayside which is a touristy area with shops and restaurants but I will worn you it is on the touristy side or you cold walk an addition 20 to 25 minutes to Brickell Centre which is more of a mall and a beautiful one with lots of stores and restaurants.

Another option is to take transportation (taxi, uber, lyft) over to South Beach. Have them drop you off at the beginning of Ocean Drive with the beach on one side and the art deco hotels on the other side. From there you could walk for quite a while North and eventually it turns into a board walk. Or you could head over to Lincoln Drive. It's all fun with the beach and the ocean and lots of people and restaurants and shops.

Miami operates a free trolley system that stops in the port

you can get around Miami and out to Miami Beach thru the free trolley system

some complain it is slow and crowded ..... duh ... it is FREE so do you think some locals KNOW the schedule and exploit something intended for tourists!!!!! BUT it IS available .....

Note ... the CORAL WAY route is the one that goes to the port .. but you can connect to other routes from there

(metro mover is also free ... and you can get from the trolley to MM ..... http://www.miamidade.gov/transit/metromover.asp )

Hey, thanks for this info! Next winter, a looooonnnggggg ways away, we are doing an almost back to back based from Miami. We get back on a Friday and the next cruise leaves Sat. We are super excited for our in between day and this transportation info is very helpful! Our intention is to drop our luggage off at whatever hotel we are staying at and then go out and explore.

depending on the weather - we may do the free trolley to Bayside, and look for a great spot for lunch. Any recommendations? Would like Cuban or seafood, but we are flexible.

Bayside:

Cuban: Latin American Cafe

Seafood: Largo (the Mahi Mahi is good)

Nicaraguan: Los Ranchos (good lunch specials on weekdays; their specialty is the Baby Churrasco, but their Emerald fish special is very good too)

Downtown:

Peruvian: CVI.CHE 105 (excellent ceviche and seafood dishes - 1 block from Bayside on the west side on NE 3rd Ave & NE 1st St)

Peruvian: Pollo y Jarras (next door to its sister restaurant to CVI.CHE 105)

Another casual seafood option is Garcia's, located on the Miami River. Always fresh, as they have their own fishing boats, and have a seafood market inside. You would need an Uber or taxi to get there, but it's just a 5-minute ride from Bayside.

There are a few stops at the port:

- Near Terminal B

- Near Terminal G

- South side of the port admin office building between Terminals F & G

- Across from Terminal J (in front of RCCL's 1080 office building).
