Bizziecruzer Posted December 31, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 31, 2017 Hi - we will arrive in Venice on 19 August 2018 at 3pm on Constellation and depart (sail) the following day at 4.30pm on the Constellation. Could you please assist with some things to do. Most of the ship excursions have strange timings. We are happy to do things on our our or if you have suggestions on a good guide / tour company that would be great. This will be our first and probably last time in Venice.:(Thanks in advance for any assistance.
CruiserBruce Posted December 31, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 31, 2017 For Venice, you don't really need a tour company or guide. If you don't have mobility issues, you just walk or take the various public transit methods (mostly boats). A guide book might be helpful. If you have mobility issues, then you have different concerns.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted December 31, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 31, 2017 Excellent advice to get a guidebook. I can recommend Rick Steves' Venice guidebook for first-time visitors to Venice. He has several walking tours and also some self-guided tours of key places like the Doge's Palace and St. Marks basilica.
euro cruiser Posted December 31, 2017 #4 Share Posted December 31, 2017 The only thing you need to decide in advance is if you want to take a tour of the Doge's palace. If so it's a good idea to purchase your ticket in advance, which you can easily do over the internet. You can skip the line at the basilica with an advance ticket as well. Beyond these two sights the magic of Venice is simply wandering around, especially if you get away from the major routes and locations like San Marco and Rialto. If you want to take a gondola ride you can do it from any one of a couple of dozen locations. The fare is fixed, no need or point in trying to negotiate, at €80 for a 40-minute ride. This fare is for the entire boat, not per person.
