Why does the epic not have a spinnaker lounge onboard?

There are hardly any drinking venues onboard the epic. They are always closed unless they are open for a show. The comedy club/piano lounge was closed if it wasn't in use. We really struggled to get a seat anywhere when we were onboard in 2015. They really need a spinnaker lounge on the top deck to take the edge off.

We never had any issues finding an open bar on the Epic, in my opinion there were too many choices, and really good choices. Once we found one we really liked, we tended to stay there and go back there, and didn't get to explore them all. I haven't been on a ship with a Spinnaker lounge, but from pictures I see, they look dated and old school cruising.

I’ve been on two, they are awesome! Beautiful views, great place to gather for drinks and snacks (always had great drink service there without having to go to the bar), a great spot for games and shows, too. One of my favorite spots on the ships that have them.

Totally agree. These lounges are on the "Sun & Jewel" class ships. Excellent location for shows, dancing and to relax on sea days and they can handle a large number of cruisers for various activities and meetings. Bar service is also good. Too bad that they don't have something similar on the larger ships.

I know people who have been on the breakaway and epic and didn't even have a drink in any of the bars because they were all full all the time. It wouldn't be so bad if places like howl at the moon and fat cats and cavern club were open all the time. They are only open or 2 nights a week.

Then again NCL don't want people drink too much because people 3 or 5 grand's worth of booze yet only pay $1500 dollars for the trip. I have seen people do it.

Totally inaccurate info. We’ve been on every NCL ship except the Joy and never had issues finding more than enough drinks, seating while enjoying them, or experienced excessive wait times. The only wait times I’ve ever noticed is at outdoor venues on sea days in beautiful weather. Even then, 10 minute wait max and, with UDP, you can order 2.

Because the Epic is a horrible designed weird ship that sucks.

There's a reason they only made one.

I will give you that one. The ship needs an redesign which would be more cost effective than building a new ship for NCL. The independence of the seas will suffer similar problems once they remove the adults only club and attempt to do late night dancing in the observation bar on deck 14 which will be full of kids who will have to be removed from the adults only setting.

Howl at the Moon isn't a place. It's a show that takes place in Headliners. Headliners is open every night of the week, not just 2 as you stated. Also, Fat Cats on Breakaway and Epic were also open every single night on our cruises. I can't imagine where you were.

The seating in maltings, o sheehans, shakers, atruim and the piano bar was full nearly all of the time and they hadn't booked howl at the moon or the comedy club or any of the shows they didn't know about needing to book and they didn't want to go to bliss Howl and Moon and Comedy club was also closed when not in use and people wandered around the ship aimlessly.

Howl at the Moon cannot be closed because it isn't a place. If you mean that Headliners was closed, yeah, that happens during the day. Also, they didn't book Howl because you can't prebook Howl. You just show up and drink and enjoy music.

Spinnaker is a great venue, especially if the weather outside isn't conducive for an outdoor sail away party. Also great for trivia and other events.

starting with the epic and newer ships, all of the events that were once in the spinnaker lounge moved to the atrium. i heard several rumors that NCL did this because they wanted to the atrium to be focal point of the ship. similar to how princess cruises has the plaza that also has events

i noticed on other cruise lines, the atrium area does not have that many activities and was mostly dead space. this is might be the trend to re purpose the space.

Couldn't disagree more

We were on the Epic during last summer's school holidays and the ship was full (they had a sign up on customer services desk stating no upgrades available as the ship was fully occupied)

The only time we had to wait more than a few minutes for a drink was at the pool bar during sea days. Then we had typically a 5 min wait.

There were always numerous bars open and most were reasonably quiet.

It was probably my favourite thing about the Epic that you could always find a bar to suit whether you wanted a quiet beer or a cocktail with a band in the background.

Cavern Club was open every night, as others have posted Howl at the moon doesn't take reservations and you can always get in. Sometimes when I read reviews on the Epic, I think there must be two ships named Epic, since what is reported is nothing like our experiences. And both times we were on the Epic the cruises were sold out, but there was never a lack of places to get a drink.

Did anyone else find that very hard to read?

On the Epic, which is a beautiful ship, Bliss is open every night,,, big, open, ultra lounge. Additionally, Shaker's Martini Bar, Maltings Bear and Whiskey Bar, Spice H20, Headliners, O'Sheehans, Cavern Club, Cascades Bar, Moderno Bar, and the Atrium bar are open in the evening. We have sailed on the Epic 7 times and have never had a problem finding a place to sit and have a drink.

On the Epic, Bliss is the equivalent of the Spinnaker lounge and offers space day and night to sit and relax.

True but on the Gem and the jade as well I think they have bliss and spinnaker. We didn't know about booking the stuff on the epic it was a zoo of people on our sailing shakers and maltings always full I would swear headliners was closed when not open. Yet we had no problems booking resturants.

"I would swear headliners was closed when not open"

Well that would make sense...

I never found it hard to find an open bar on the Epic over our 10 day cruise. Some bars did not open until 11am, which seems sensible to me. I often got drinks from the casino bar before dinner as it wasn't busy. The bar in Bliss tended to be shut earlier in the day before they started running events in there. The atrium bar and pool bars always seemed open. I'm not really sure what you mean about 'closed unless open for a show' as the bars do not host shows.

Just curious, if this complaint is related to a cruise you took in 2015, are you really still stewing over it that much?

I have just come back off the Gem at christmas loved everything but the DJ bit light on the games maybe we had no problem getting in anywhere and I loved the spinnaker it was fit for all purposes late night party before bliss, bingo, quizzes, the sail-away party. I just don't understand why they don't have it on the larger ships.

On that cruise on the epic people seemed to walk around aimlessly all the time like robots everyplace was full it was a different atmosphere than the Gem.

How do you know people were walking aimlessly?? That’s such an odd statement. Maybe they were on their way somewhere?
