Corkage for in room wine

So I am confused I thought we were allowed to bring two bottles of wine per cabin and if we drank them in the room we were fine. Someone in a group on Facebook said we get the corkage charged if our cabin steward sees a bottle in our room at all. Which is correct?

So far we have gotten luck and have never been charged a corkage fee for any that we have brought to the MDR. Yeah, I probably just jinxed myself, but oh well.

I first saw the stickers on Oasis and Majesty. Did not see the stickers at all on Jewel.

No corkage fee ever. We did have stickers on the wine that was given us by C & A and our TA on Oasis, but not on Freedom last week. We usually bring screw tops so we can open them, or we cork them in our cabin. But we had one corked in the MDR and one on Freedom and no corkage fees. Just don't complain if you do get charged, but I'd be surprised.

I have a feeling that many are not getting charged in the mdr b/c of tips. I think waiters may be afraid that if they charge it may come out the tip.

 

 

 

It may also be they are understaffed and it’s one more thing to do , already busy filling drink package drink orders , etc.

 

I wonder if when they mentioned corkage said “never mind, I’ll just drink via diamond 3 drinks and save the bottle for cabin” if they’d reverse course and save themselves time by letting you pour own already opened bottle?

Corkage isn’t about who pours the wine, nor is it about a cork or screw top. It’s about taking your own wine into a restaurant. Same as on land. We weren’t charged corkage 2 weeks ago in 3 speciality restaurants or the M.D. We were prepared to but it didn’t arise, so I’m not going to complain.

I believe that it’s Norwegian. They also allow you to bring as many bottles as you want high is why all bottles are subject to the corkage fee.

We are bringing a bottle of wine on board for sure, and plan on drinking it in our room, and occasionally taking a glass to dinner. Just to confirm, is it ok to bring our own GLASS of wine into the MDR or specialties? That is our plan, we drink no more than one glass with dinner usually. Thanks!

Yes no problem to bring a glass of wine to dinner. We did exactly this last week, just picked up wine glasses at any bar.
