RIvacationgirl Posted February 11, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 11, 2018 Following, as we are new to cruising for just about 6 years, this is interesting to me. I don't know what I have been missing from the past!:D:D:D:D
cb at sea Posted February 11, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2018 REAL silverware, and crystal/china at dinner. 5 courses at dinner. Tasty and beautifully presented menus/desserts. Molded butter pats on ice. A bit of "class" at dinner. I miss that. Not something you have on an everyday basis! Oh..and 2/1 ratio of staff to passengers. Service used to be the utmost....not so much anymore.

Atlgator Posted February 11, 2018 #7 Share Posted February 11, 2018 I was going to mention the midnight buffets with all of the carvings made out of fruit, ice, butter, and chocolates. The food was definitely much better 10 years ago. I never remember the assigned deck chairs, almost have LOL about that one. Things I do NOT miss, formal dress up nights and having set early or late dinner times.

NMLady Posted February 11, 2018 #12 Share Posted February 11, 2018 I miss having a steward take our carry on bags and escort us to our cabin while we sip complimentary champagne. This was our experience in 2004 on Celebrity Millenium. We were in cheapest OV cabin, not a suite.
Rare ColeThornton Posted February 11, 2018 #13 Share Posted February 11, 2018 I miss hitting icebergs and having the band play as the ship goes down. Now all they have is those reggae bands. The classical music was sooooooooo much better.

I remember my first few cruises in the early 90s - including on Carnival. Dinner was an experience. Granted, from an overall ship perspective, there are so many more things to do and the ship has become the destination - but I do miss some of the 'traditional'. This was our experience in 2004 on Celebrity Millenium. We were in cheapest OV cabin, not a suite. That was my experience on my first cruise which was on the Celebrity Meridian back in '92. And we were in steerage (Inside, bottom deck) :) I remember all the stewards lined up as you entered the ship, and they escorted you to your cabin. I vaguely remember the same thing on my first Carnival cruise as well.

Best to wait for the Navy ship to pass before resuming Skeet Shooting! In addition to Skeet Shooting ... hitting golf balls off the back of the ship into the ocean was FUN! ;p
