kingcole Posted March 25, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2018 Looking at booking a new year cruise and really fancy spending a few days in New Orelans first, so the cruise on December 29th is looking like a great option. The price is also excellent when compared to Floriday or New York departures. I’ve sailed many times on Royal but the smallest ship we have sailed in the Freedom Class which we like. I’m sailing Anthem for the first time in July. How noticable will it be on a smaller ship like Vision and is it likely to have a hugely negative impact? Also, the casino is important for us and our favourite game is Ultimate Texas holdem which has been on every other ship I’ve sailed. Will it be on Vision too? papaflamingo Posted March 25, 2018 #2 Share Posted March 25, 2018 It will be noticeably smaller, but because there is less to do and it's a different design. Freedom is a huge ship with a promenade, flow rider, etc. Vision is smaller with no promenade, no flow rider. BUT... I love the Vision class! It rides well at sea, and it's more the "old" style of cruising. It's about relaxing around the pool, having a drink in the bar, sitting on your balcony, watching pool games or going to an art auction. If you're good with that, then you'll love it. Fewer passengers and smaller ship (still 915 feet or so) means you meet people and see them throughout your cruise. So a "hugely negative impact?" NO. "Negative impact?" Not in my opinion. Simply a different style of cruising and IMHO one of my favorites. But that's me. I love being on a ship, lying in a lounger with a book, and watching the ocean slip by. Don't gamble, but the casino is pretty good size and seems to have a great variety of games, so I would expect they'll have Ultimate Texas holdem too. But can't say for sure. Aeryn Posted March 25, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 25, 2018 Although Vision is not huge, it is a lovely ship for traditional cruising. Great food and service in my opinion. One of the most enjoyable cruises I’ve taken.
kccrzr Posted March 25, 2018 #4 Share Posted March 25, 2018 On the Vision TA in August, there was a Learn-to-play session on Day 1 in the casino of what they called their most popular games. Ultimate Texas Hold’em was one.
LadyTxan Posted March 26, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 26, 2018 Yes, Ultimate Texas Hold Em is alive and well on the Vision. I've cruised on her a total of 5 times out of Galveston and each cruise has its own personality -- some cruises the table was very crowded of an evening and others not so much. FYI, it is a smoking table. The casino dealers and wait staff could not have been more pleasant overall. As to the ship being smaller, I personally found that to be an advantage. Lounge chairs were always available in a nice spot on deck, the solarium never seemed crowded, my time dining was very pleasant with little wait and the crew friendly and accommodating. As in life, some things are a plus and others a minus.
ERIE 13 Posted March 26, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 26, 2018 Did Western Caribbean on her two years ago and had a great time. Ship was in good condition and the service excellent. We love the Freedom and and Voyager class ships but the Radiance and Vision class ships we also enjoy. Much easier to get from one end of the ship to the other end. Granted there is more to due on larger ships but if you just want to relax and enjoy the warm weather and do excursions you will enjoy this class of ships. Rala Posted March 26, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 26, 2018 Did a Baltic cruise last July on Vision. No complaints, but we are not into all the bells and whistles (i.e.. flow rider, zip line, multiple specialty restaurants etc.) that some of the larger ships have. If Captain Marek is aboard, he is great. Actually played with the band a few times(rock and roll) and was very accessible and a lot of fun. We are "young" seniors and enjoyed all aspects of the ship. One caveat...Our cabin #8040 right at the edge of the Centrum was quite noisy in the evening when there was entertainment in the Centrum. Other than that , the Vision is great! :D
LeeW Posted March 27, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 27, 2018 Did a B2B on her in January and enjoyed it very much. Crew acts more like family than anything else. You see officers constantly and they even perform together in the atrium (do NOT get a room close to their if you go to bed before midnight). Really nice enclosed pool area, with Park Cafe in there. Easy to get water and lemonade almost any time in there. Good food. None of the bells and whistles of the big ships but we will certainly be back. Was able to get a minisuite for less than we would pay for a balcony on Allure.

Ashland Posted April 5, 2018 #12 Share Posted April 5, 2018 I noticed that all the junior suites on Vision are under the pool deck...is there a noise problem? Sent from my iPad using Forums Try booking one of the JS's towards the aft on the starboard side. The location of the JS's & above on this class of ship isn't my favorite but when the itinerary is too good to pass up as mine will be for the Med/Greek May 2019...I'll make due. We've (our family of 5) sailed several times many years ago when Vision sailed out of San Pedro Ca. but at that time we either did a couple of balconies mid-ship on deck #7 or the RFS's on deck #8. And since we were young and sailing with our young teens noise wasn't a problem or concern. This will be our first time back on Vision after all those years and looking forward to it. lifes-a-beach Posted April 5, 2018 #16 Share Posted April 5, 2018 We have sailed on Vision twice and leave Friday for B2B. Absolutely love her. She sails like a ship, sometimes choppy and sometimes not. Her crew are excellent and she’s small enough that you don’t spend all your time walking or waiting on an elevator. The solarium is the best. Unlike Liberty, it’s not a walkway through the ship so it’s rarely noisy and very rarely will you see kids as it’s adults only and there’s generally nowhere to go through. Esilef Posted April 5, 2018 #17 Share Posted April 5, 2018 Is the vision of the seas the same as rhapsody of the seas? I’ve got a cabin on hold for the Mediterranean in September but thought she looked very small.

Florida_cruisers Posted April 5, 2018 #20 Share Posted April 5, 2018 (edited) You see officers constantly and they even perform together in the atrium (do NOT get a room close to there if you go to bed before midnight). Oh boy, now I am worried and understand why those are the only rooms available in our category (1M) now. Two nights ago I booked room 7582 thinking it was an ideal cabin right in the middle of the ship and not far from elevators. We are bringing a child and do not go to sleep late. Is the noise bad enough to justify the extra $1000 worth the balcony upgrade and move away from the middle of the ship close to the centrum?
