Elite on 5th cruise?

We were on the Royal Princess for a 10 day cruise on March 20th. We sat with a couple at the pub lunch that bought a drink with a "black" cruise card. Just out of curiosity, I asked if they cruised Princess a lot and they said no, this is our 5th Princess cruise. We asked how they had elite status and they informed us that they were told when they checked in at the dock, "Surprise you are now elite"! I looked at his card and it did have a 4 in the corner for the number of cruises taken. They said they had not taken any long cruises, mostly 7-10 days. They said they had taken a lot of HAL cruises and maybe they counted too. We know they could have been in a suite for those 4 cruises but 2X cruise credits is only 8 cruise credits.

We are elite and are very confused about this. Anybody have a clue why or how this happened for the "lucky" couple. We spoke with the Captain's Circle Host at disembarkation and she had no idea that this was going on.

Ecky Thump, I'm glad you didn't spot us then.

We've just returned from our first Princess Cruise on Star Princess and were given an 'Elite' Black Card at check in...

But... Those cards clearly show 13 cruises. The number and letter in the bottom right corner - 13A - indicate 13 previous cruises and Adult status. I'm guessing you had previous cruises on P&O which counted toward your Princess status.

Gambling in the casino has NOTHING to do with elite

It does, according to the Captains Circle ambassador on Caribbean Princess in March, 2017. I doubt she was lying, as she explained the entire Fast Track Elite program to me. And Princess is part of Carnival Corp.

I just checked my cruise card from my last Princess cruise....it was my 9th cruise on Princess, but the number at the lower right corner is: 10A. So, maybe that's not what it means since I would have only had 8 previous cruises. I would have had 10 cruise credits, though, so maybe that's what it's meaning.

If it does my DH should be Elite Plus Plus

The number in the bottom right corner is the number of Cruise Credits you have going into the current cruise.

For many people number of cruises and cruise credits are the same. For those who have sailed solo or in a suite would have more cruise credits than cruises.

I sure as nukessailor said, they must be travel agents completing their coomodore course.

long cruiser

FYI, Travel agents who are Commodores get Elite status every time they sail as long as their agency is actively selling Princess cruises.

Were any of your cruises B2Bs booked as a single cruise? If so, each segment would get you one cruise credit.

You can go into your Captain's Circle account on the Internet and you can see where all of your cruise credits came from. Let us know what you find.

You guessed correctly.

I consider myself very lucky to have made our Princess reservation fractionally prior to the rule change.

No B2B's. paul929207 is correct....I had sailed 8 times previously, but 2 of them were in full suites so I got 2 credits for them, which put me at 10 credits. Now I have 12 credits, having sailed in another full suite on the last cruise.

So....the number in the lower right corner is how many cruise credits you have already earned, not how many cruises you have taken. Mystery solved! ;p

I’m trying to calculate what someone obtaining elite status costs me? It seems approximately or at least close to zero .

I agree.....I have been afforded many perks on another cruise line...just because, I did not inquire....it was their prerogative and I graciously accepted...

Look at it this way, at least Princess does not allow, your spouse, someone at your same address or children under18 to attain your status.

Our kids are in their later 20s and early 30s now, but are Elite on X and Diamond+ on Royal, yes they did cruise a few times with us prior to their 18th birthdays.. they attain status without spending any of their own money on the cruise lines...except maybe in the arcades......a pretty nice perk, to entice them to say with those cruise lines in the future, I would say.

You can also buy your way in to elite status buy spending a lot of money (thousands) at the spa.
