Thanks for the info. I passed up a casino offer recently on NA because HAL's website stated smoking is allowed in NA casino. I'm pleased to learn HAL is expanding the no smoking policy in more of their casinos.

Sailing on the Veendam in Nov. Is the casino smoke free?
Smoking is still allowed on Veendam in the casino at this time and most likely in November. Hopefully, all the casinos on all the ships will go non-smoking. Edited by Lady Arwen

That is correct. The only smoking I saw a few weeks ago was outside on the starboard deck aft.

Thanks for sharing your recent experience on NA. Hopefully the day is not far away when HAL bans all indoor smoking on their ships.

I second that, X 1,000. It blows my mind that a company would build a new ship (or renovate an old one) and then allow people to smoke inside it.

Then don't sail on Oceania - they do permit inside smoking in Horizons (their Crow's Nest). Well ventilated but if smoke bothers you, use the other entrance.

Oceania is much more expensive than HAL but they found a balance.

They are not alone.

Luckily, I am fairly immune to cigarette smoke (as in, I can be around it without too much annoyance or health detriment). I just hate how much it cheapens a venue, for lack of a better word. My last cruise was on the Norwegian Getaway. The ship featured a beautiful inner atrium that was visually impressive, but then you're smacked in the face with cigarette smoke from the casino. For me, it negates some of the wow factor.

Smoking definitely cheapens the atmosphere. The odor is disgusting and the swirling smoke trails are a turn off.

Currently 5 ships in the HAL fleet have 100% non-smoking casinos. Westerdam, Oosterdam, Zuiderdam, Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam

We will be sailing on the Eurodam in the future and this news is fantastic. One of the reasons I have cruised more with Celebrity is all their casinos are non-smoking.

I agree! I assume nobody smokes inside their homes, so why do they think it's fine to smoke indoors on a cruiseship? Very, very few hotels have smoking rooms anymore. Get with the times, HAL.

I was getting a little nervous about NA's current status as well. On the "old" website, it was definitely listed as non-smoking in the casino when I was doing my research. However, the new website doesn't have it listed that way. I presume they are just using outdated language, but one of the reasons I picked HAL for our upcoming Alaska cruise was the smoking policy in the casino. From what I gather, they are getting rid of casino smoking as the ships go through the drydock upgrade process but maybe that is wishful thinking.
