Icesk8rReedy Posted May 7, 2018 #1 Share Posted May 7, 2018 I was on the Dream and got off Sunday. It was the flooded one. We were on the Lido forward so the flooding didn't affect us. But they did cut power to part of the deck. We saw some of the mess from the flood and it wasn't so fun for many people. It did create a small waterfall down the atrium. The first day a kid was opening a door and the wind caught it, slammed the finger in the door cutting it off. Could not be reattached. On a Belize tender, one of the tender drivers was going too fast and hit a wave causing a bench to break. There were some elderly people on it and they crashed into each other causing some injuries. One night the swells were so high that you could feel the ship raise up and slam down into the water. Sounded like a bomb went off. Service in the Alchemy Bar was much to be desired. If you weren't "one of the favorites" don't expect to get much service. Food was just meh. We did not enjoy the itinerary so we won't be doing it again but that isn't Carnival's fault. Just thought all the stops were kind of blah. Minus a few mishaps, it was overall decent. We really enjoyed the shows and the sense of community on board with other passengers. I would sail with Carnival again and my husband agrees. We just like cruises. Even if there are some glitches along the way. I didn't keep our FunTimes but from what I saw with others, they're all about the same.

Not a fun ship at all for that kid. Similar thing happened to me long ago, but not on a ship, and the finger got successfully reattached. Not fun at all! devildawg2323 Posted May 7, 2018 #5 Share Posted May 7, 2018 Great title. So to recap, flooded ship, lost finger, tender throwing old folks around, ship hitting big waves, and oh yeah Alchemy service was bad. I don't know why but that tickled me, but it did. luvsben Posted May 10, 2018 #6 Share Posted May 10, 2018 Sometimes the weather is not perfect and affects the water . My Son and his family were lower on the boat and felt every wave too under them. They will not be down there anymore they said. The ship is gonna hit big waves no matter what ship you stay on, but if you know ahead of time how it affects which part of the ship, it will help you for the next cruise to play a different room to stay in. CruisingNole Posted May 10, 2018 #13 Share Posted May 10, 2018 I recall on another thread someone who wasn't on the cruise said the passengers "hit the jackpot" by being affected by the flooding. Yeah, sounds like a blast, I sure am bummed I missed out.
gtalum Posted May 10, 2018 #14 Share Posted May 10, 2018 How do you feel they handled the situation? From here on land it seems Carnival did as well as they could considering the circumstances. A refund and 50% future cruise credit seems fair, but then I didn't go through it.
gtalum Posted May 10, 2018 #15 Share Posted May 10, 2018 My guess is "one of the favorites" = someone they know will leave a tip This is my experience. I pick two or three bars to frequent on a cruise (usually the atrium bar, the casino bar, and the Alchemy Bar) and I tip a dollar for every drink when I have Cheers. They'll usually bypass an entire bar full of waiting customers to fill my order when I walk up to the bar.

And I've found there's usually a bartender from the Comedy Club working one of the Lido bars during the daytime...so the connection I've made there carries over to Lido. Last cruise the Comedy Club bartender would get my drink when he saw me walk in the door. And the Alchemy bartenders would be asking me what I wanted next before I even finished a drink. I think Carnival did a great job with how they handled it. If I was affected then I would be pleased with their solution. They did what they could. I know people that were affected and they feel the same way.

It wasn't a bad cruise for us, just didn't think the ports where what I was expecting. It's not Carnival's fault though. Overall it was decent, just not my favorite itinerary thus far. I do like Carnival though. They do a good job.

At least that hotel has the option of getting you a room at a nearby hotel. Hard to do on a ship at sea. Same for fire aboard ship. Limited options on where to run to. I am positive that the Butte hotel does not have up to 3,000 guests booked every night throughout the year and all their rooms booked every night.... Joebucks Posted May 17, 2018 #25 Share Posted May 17, 2018 I recall on another thread someone who wasn't on the cruise said the passengers "hit the jackpot" by being affected by the flooding. Yeah, sounds like a blast, I sure am bummed I missed out. I agree that the passengers hit the jackpot. They dealt with what, a few hours of some water out of a week-long cruise? The crew, who got the short end of the stick, had to drop everything they were doing to clean it all up asap. Then the poor passengers got their money all returned to them, and their next cruise will be half-off. Some people made out with thousands on this deal. That is worth some water.
