Royal Suite Upgrade Offer

Recommended Posts

We got very lucky today...

We received an email about an upgrade to a Royal Suite on our sailing this Friday aboard the Solstice.

For some background we first booked an aqua class then upgraded when prices fell after final payment date to an S1(our highest cabin type we’ve sailed). We were perfectly happy and then received an email earlier this afternoon to see if we would go for an upgrade to a Royal Suite. Crazily enough we got it!!!!!

They asked over the phone after we called how much we’d be willing to spend on the upgrade(not falling for that!) We said back to the rep what is the lowest amount you’d be will to take, they stated $500 per person and we jumped on it!

I hope this helps anyone who is asked as well!

This is going to be an even better Alaska experience than we ever though!

Congratulations! You’ll love the Royal Suite. We had one (not with an upgrade) in October on the Equinox. Take advantage of the “free” specialty restaurants.

Wow, that’s a great price. Congratulations; have a wonderful time! The suite perks are amazing even in Sky Suites, but in Royal and Penthouse Suites they really spoil you and the extra space is so nice.

Good for you. You will REALLY enjoy the Royal treatment and be warned, it will be very hard to go back. We did an S1 on the Equinox last summer. We liked the experience but sure missed the Royal treatment. In a few weeks we sail again, in a Royal. Nuff said.

May I ask what tier of Captains Club you are? Do you think that made a difference in getting the offer?

We are both Select, we will be Elite upon completion of this cruise though. Not sure if that had any impact or not.

I would love to know how they decide though!

Sincere best wishes for a great cruise! We love the S class RS! Make sure you have your list of requirements for your room and bar set up when the shore side concierge emails or telephones you!

Even though X stated a few years ago that their new system would offer upgrades to CC members accordingly, it appears the Move Up offer of bidding is the way they are actually moving forward. Unsure why they actually quoted it if they had no intention of implementing it ?

Anyway, OP, have a great cruise in your RS ;).

Congrats - Maybe we are neighbors - My wife and I are in RS 1239 on the same cruise!!

We enjoyed 1239 on an Australia/New Zealand cruise in January of 2017. Very nice stateroom and the service was beyond all our expectations. Only odd thing is in the walk-in closet. When the door is open it blocks access to the safe and some drawers, I think, if I recall correctly. That said, the laundry perk is really good. Bag your laundry and it disappears and then reappears either folded or hung in your closet. Magic.

Also, I got scolded by our butler for going to Cafe al Baccio in the morning for coffee for our room. "It's my job, sir. Please just give a quick call and I will take care of it".

Royal treatment, indeed. I can't imagine what the Penthouse treatment would be like.

Congrats!

I do have a question: Will you get captain's club points for the Royal Suite or Sky? I would assume Royal since money is changing hands, but am curious.

Again, congrats and enjoy!

Captain's Club points are earned based on the level of stateroom on the day of embarkation. They will gain Royal points, whether money was involved or not.

I really hope that is the case however the initial email we got, was that the only perk that we will not get is the additional captains club points, the person upgrading it also stated the same.

I'm pretty sure from what I've read here that this is not correct.

It seems I am wrong about this one. If it was emailed and stated then I would guess that will be the case. That said, however, I think you might have a strong argument since you paid additional for the upgrade. We did the same on the Solstice 1/17 and got Royal points. I guess they are trying to make it harder to make Elite now.

It sure seems that way. Apparently a change since our experience with a Royal upgrade on Solstice 01/17.

I can say with 100% certainty that this statement is untrue. Captain Club points are based on the level of stateroom PAID for. When one receives a free upgrade, they are not entitled to the points of the higher category and with guarantees one only receives the captain club points associated with the lowest level room one could be assigned based on the guarantee - not the room actually assigned (i.e. if one books a Concierge Class guarantee and is assigned a Sky Suite, one receives the Captain Club points based on Concierge Class). With paid upgrades it depends; sometimes Celebrity deems the paid upgrade price sufficient for receiving Captain Club points of the higher category room, but if the paid upgrade is at a reduced price (i.e. below current for-sale rate), it may not qualify for the extra points.

OK I have to disagree w/ everyone b/c I'm that kind of gal.

I've had several comped (by the casino) cruises in everything from inside to AQ and I've gotten CC points for the cabin in which I sailed. All I paid was port/taxes. Arguably the casino PAID but I know I didn't and reasonably certain the Blue Chip Club didn't pay what anyone else would pay.

Off topic for this thread but I am very interested in just how much one has to gamble to get comped cruises. My mother gets offers all the time from Carnnival to sail again for free before she even gets off the ship, and free drinks, perks etc while on board. When I’ve looked at the point system for blue Chip previously it looks like an outrageous amount of play to get any meaningful comps - so how do you get so many?
