Can you beat this chair hog story?

Recommended Posts

As she pointed out the smoking areas to me--it was that whole side--which had almost all empty chairs and tables. So, yeah..she had plenty of areas to go.

On a side note, there is a smoking area and non smoking area in the casino. If I am playing a slot machine in the smoking area (and that I would certainly know), do I have to leave my machine if a smoker wants to play that?

No, you don't have to give up your machine but you also don't have the right to complain if a smoker sits next to you and lights up.

As for the "love seat", it's not. It's a 2 seat couch. You do not have the right to take up both seats of a 2 seat couch no more than you have the right to stretch across 2 loungers next to the pool. 1 seat per person. So it is immaterial if there were other seats available in the smoking area, you were a single person occupying two seats and she has ever right to ask you to move your feet so she can sit in the second seat and smoke if she wants. You have the right to sit anywhere you want but you don't have the right to occupy more than one seat.

I've seen many many Carnival cruisers who can take up the majority of the 2 seat couch, barely enough room to squeeze a skinny 4 yr old next to them.. Fluffy, hah.

I think you may just have the answer to the chair hogs. Every morning Carnival can hold a "chair auction" and raise even more money for St. Jude.

I would've taken the money and then hotfooted it to the casino the minute she was out of sight.:') Because who turns down $100?:'):')

Well as Gabriel Iglesias (who is fluffy himself) has said, there are five levels of fatness-big, healthy, husky, fluffy and DAAAAAAAAAAYUM.:')

So using your logic if you and 2 friends are sitting in the Lido buffet having lunch at a 4 person table, you are required to let any single cruiser to sit at your table. Not many people would agree with that.

I was in Nassau in Feb. on the Pride and was having early morning coffee and reading a book on Deck 9. I met a woman and we started talking and I told her I was staying on the ship since I'd been to Nassau many times and just wanted to hang out and not do anything.

She said she was doing an excursion and would be gone about 4 hours but was concerned that when she got back on the ship that all the chairs by the pool would be taken and she wanted the first row in front of the pool for her and the six others she was with.

I told her not to worry and that the time she was coming back would be OK and there would be plenty of chairs. She insisted that it had to be the front row and then said, "If you're not getting off the ship, I'll give you $100 to watch MY chairs." She pulled out a $100 bill.

I told her your'e not suppossed to save chairs and I wasn't planning on sitting there all day anyway.

She started dropping F Bombs at me and told me I was pathetic....LOL

Thankfully, never saw her again after that.:o:o:o:o

Some people are scary....:D

One option might have been to take the $100, leave when you wanted, then use the $100 as a nice tip for the staff!

Agree, If seating is tight then it would be right thing to do to share your table with others. What’s the big deal, it’s just a quick buffet lunch anyway.

So they were trying to do the correct thing and smoke in the designated smoking area and you the non-smoker told them to take it somewhere else. Roger that.

There is nothing that says nonsmokers can't sit in the smoking sections. But how inappropriate it is to ask a stranger to let you sit on a love seat with them.

I don't understand their resistance either and many of these same people choose a set dining time in the MDR and eat with strangers the entire cruise at dinner.

Or sit right next to each other in the bench style chairs in the Punchliner Comedy Club. I have let strangers sit at our table in the buffet on embarkation day and a gentlemen offered us the two available seats at his booth on Glory 2 cruises ago when he saw my mom and me wandering around looking for a spot. While initially awkward (and probably for his wife when she came back lol), we talked a little and it was fine. He didn’t have to do that but it was much appreciated. What a nice way to start the cruise.

For the opposite, on my most recent dream cruise, we went to trivia. The previous trivia was ending and we didn’t realize that we stole the table and chairs of the people who were up checking their scores with the host.

Anyway, they were super friendly and decided all of us women should sit but then we told the men to grab chairs, and so about 7 of us sat at a small table for the music divas trivia.

They were from Canada (super friendly!) and it was their first Carnival Cruise. We all had a great time, talked a lot about excursions etc and we decided to compete as one group.

Sharing can be fun!

(But with my asthma, I would not have shared that movie love seat with a smoker, sorry)

If smoking bothers you that much then why would you be sitting in the smoking section? Not being mean, just asking. If you’re there, then there’s a good chance smoke will come your way.

Well if Bingomamma19 wants to post a pic showing she is 4 ft wide, then you would have a point. But since we are talking about a specific situation versus a hypothetical situation, your theory doesn't apply, again unless BM19 is 4 ft wide.

You sit with people at dinner, why is the Libo buffet any different? And yes, you are required to allow people to use unused seats at THE table (not YOUR table) if they want to use those seats. Can't tell you how often I've offered open seats where I was sitting to folks looking for a place to sit. To not do so is just plain rude. You seem to think some people are more special than other folks. Surprise, they are not.

It's not a "love seat" and most smokers who don't know each other have no problems sitting together on the 2 seat couches and chatting about the cruise. Seems like the non-smokers are pretty uptight here. Not to mention, a smoker doesn't not need to ask for or get permission to sit in an open seat in the smoking section and smoke, not matter how uncomfortable it makes you feel.

Not required but definitely the nice and courteous thing to do. I would also definitely offer for someone to join me if I had available seats. If I mistakenly sat down in the smokers section, I would have offered my spot and sat somewhere there is no smoke because A) I respect designated smoking areas and B) prefer not breathing 2nd hand smoke if I can help it. This thread shows that some people are courteous and some are not..just like in real life.

Anyone have a picture of said love seat? Hard to determine if having someone ask to sit there is creepy or not a big deal. I picture a clamshell type chair in my head.

It’s definitely not a clamshell. I can’t find a pic of one from my cruises but it’s pretty darn close to this only with turquoise cushions.

I'm a musician, and singer, so I really enjoy sitting front row/center for the BIG shows. One evening, some time ago, I walked into the theater about 45 minutes early, and found a young man, about 12 years old saving the entire front row. I informed him that he just couldn't do that, and he REALLY got puffy with me. I proceeded to sit myself down in my usual front row/center spot. He just glared at me. Meanwhile, several other folks came, and told him the same thing. His parents/family finally showed up about 2 minutes before show time. They were pissed that he hadn't saved the seats for them.....So sad....

"SKY"

What cruise was this? I remember this exact story on one of my past cruises. We sat a few rows back and watched it all unfold.

I don't have one on me as I am on vacation right now but it is a 2 seat couch. The usually have a 3 seat couch and then 2x2 seat couches in a U configuration with a small table in the middle in the smoking section.
