CammieO Posted July 24, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2018 We are sailing in late September and our ship arrives in port at 2:00 PM and sunset is at 6:47 PM. Will that be enough time to enjoy the destination and hike down to the falls? We will be taking an independent transportation option and not booking through the cruise line to give us more time there. Thank you for your help! katrina915 Posted July 24, 2018 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2018 The round trip walk to nugget falls can be done in an hour. You are rushed but can be done. Sent from my SM-G930V using Forums mobile app
Cruise_More_Often Posted July 24, 2018 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2018 Yes, it should be a beautiful time of day, and you will have plenty of time to hike to Nugget Falls.

mapleleaves Posted July 25, 2018 #5 Share Posted July 25, 2018 if you take one of the shuttles be mindful of their last departure from Mendenhall.
Herfnerd Posted July 25, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 25, 2018 (edited) Yes We went on a Whale Watching/Mendenhall Glacier excursion last September - we arrived at 1pm. Did the whale watching first and had plenty of daylight left to hike to Nugget Falls and than back to the visitor's center before returning to the docks around 7 and have dinner at Tracy's and a little shopping at Taku Edited July 25, 2018 by Herfnerd

haolenate Posted July 28, 2018 #12 Share Posted July 28, 2018 its a "long" sunset here. You will be fine as long as the trail is open. The rangers have been closing it a lot due to bear and wolf activity (yes, wolves). We've had about 7 or 8 dogs killed this year from the animals so far, so the FS/PS is being a bit more conservative than usual about trail closures. Hopefully we’ll be there on a good day and the trail will be open. I hope no more dogs are killed! That’s very sad.
