Cigars on Princess

Hey everyone-

Now, I’m not a huge cigar smoker however I do enjoy a nice one every now and then, especially with a cocktail and some sort of sporting event on. I will be sailing on the Regal Princess in November so my question is where am I allowed to smoke my cigars or ecig without disturbing the other passengers. I did a little research over the weekend and saw that Churchill’s is the cigar bar on the ship, I was just wondering if there were any other places. I know the rules have change over the years. My wife and I haven’t been on Princess in prolly 7-8 years- so any help will be muuuccch appreciated :)

Cigar & Pipe smoking limited to Churchill's, deck 6 forward.

Cigarette smoking allowed:

Outside area starboard side promenade deck aft where the ash collectors are attached to the wall.

A section by the Terrace Pool, deck 17 aft.

A section of the deck above and forward of the main pool on deck 17.

Certain parts of the casino when playing. Certain days/evening the casino is smoke free.

There are no bars or lounges that allow smoking.

Smoking is prohibited in all staterooms and on all balconies.

Thank you so much! Just trying to gather as much info as I can. It’s been several years and I know there were rule changes. I remember being able to smoke on my balcony but I figured that had changed.

Here is the policy. Section of the nightclub refers to certain ships and certain times of the day.

smoking policy:

Designated Smoking Areas

Clearly marked “Designated Smoking Areas” are available onboard and include a sufficient number of ashtrays that are emptied regularly. Generally, these areas include cigar lounges, a section of the nightclub, as well as a portion of the open decks. The Casino and Casino Bar are non-smoking areas on board, with the exception of designated slot machines where guests are permitted to smoke only while playing at those machines. All table games are non-smoking. The Casino will also have one or more non-smoking nights (6 pm to closing), depending on length of voyage. Show lounges, dining rooms and all food services areas on board all Princess ships are non-smoking. As a safety precaution, guests are reminded to properly dispose of cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco, which are never to be thrown overboard as this may be sucked back into the ship and cause fires.

Stateroom Smoking Policy Update

For all voyages departing after January 15th, 2012, Princess Cruises will prohibit smoking in guest staterooms and balconies. This policy change reflects the preferences of a vast majority of our guests who value having their primary living space (both stateroom and balcony) smoke-free. As balconies are a hallmark of Princess Cruises, we believe it is important to keep this peaceful space clear of smoke. Violations to this policy will result in a $250 fine for each occurrence, which will be charged to the guest’s stateroom account. Keeping with the global trend toward more restrictive smoking policies and honoring the wishes of our guests, we feel this change will enhance our onboard experience.

Electronic Cigarettes

The use of electronic cigarettes is allowed within the confines of the guest's stateroom (balcony not included) and within designated smoking areas only.

Very disappointed in Princess cigar smoking policies per my experiences......they allow cigarette smokers in the cigar lounges, but they don't allow cigar smokers in the open decks with the cigarette people.....STUPID. Personally, I'd prefer smelling a cigar being smoked over a cigarette......and yet us cigar smokers have been looked at rudely by cigarette smokers on open decks where they smoke. In the cigar lounges there are very few that I've been in that have adequate ventilation and are horrible to sit in comfortably. That's my take on it.

And, at least as of our last sailing in April, e-cigs we also allowed in staterooms (but not on balcony!). Other than that, e-cigs are only allowed where cigarettes are allowed.

The same was true for us.

As I am an ex smoker, I can't weigh in on whether cigarette smokers ought to be allowed to smoke in Churchill's. However, as a passenger I really would not like to walk through the noxious cigar smoke on the decks. I avoid cigar smokers on the golf course. Trying to avoid the on the ship would be quite difficult.

I am with King James (VI Scotland, I England) on this one "Have you not reason then to bee ashamed, and to forbeare this filthie noveltie, so basely grounded, so foolishly received and so grossely mistaken in the right use thereof? In your abuse thereof sinning against God, harming your selves both in persons and goods, and raking also thereby the markes and notes of vanitie upon you: by the custome thereof making your selves to be wondered at by all forraine civil Nations, and by all strangers that come among you, to be scorned and contemned. A custome lothsome to the eye, hatefull to the Nose, harmefull to the braine, dangerous to the Lungs, and in the blacke stinking fume thereof, neerest resembling the horrible Stigian smoke of the pit that is bottomelesse".

Sort of off topic, but I have found that the price of cigars in Churchill's is actually quite reasonable. They tend to be fresh and you know they are legit.

Good to know, I was debating on bringing my own but I may just buy them there.

side note - I also saw people buying cigarettes at both the pool bar and casino bar - maybe as low as $ 3.00 a pack - now I don't smoke...but the bartender stated that was a great deal

I’m not a cigarette smoker anymore but trust me that’s a great deal. I live in New York and it’s about $14.00 per pack. What ship were you on?

On the Royal TA this spring, there was a lively group of cigar and ciggie smokers in Churchill’s. We got to be quite a little group, smoking, watching tv news, and trading stories about our travels and what not to miss.

I had my mini Cohibas with me and always stopped in a couple of times a day. All sizes, shapes and ages [emoji847]

We had people join us who did not even smoke. And when football is on, even better.

Enjoy your cruise.

I'm in the smoking area. That's where I hang out, because, well smoking.

Anyhow, there's a lot of cigar smokers in the open deck behind the One5 on the Grand, can't comment on other ships. I've never seen anyone reprimanded for cigar smoking in a smoking area. I have however, experienced non-smokers coming into the smoking area and complain. I tell them the other side of the ship, set up exactly the same is non-smoking and to go there. I am following the rules set by Princess, don't fake cough and whine when you invade the small space available for smoking!

Just weighing in my 2 cents.

Even as a non smoker, I am with you completely. Knowing the designated area for smoking is my responsibility. If it disturbs me, it is up to me to avoid the area. Personally, I have found that cigar smoke seems to linger and flow beyond the immediate area on the outside decks. If the cigar smokers join in on the cigarette areas, it is a bit more difficult to navigate around the designated smoking areas.

Not a big problem really.
