Hi there...working on booking our first ever cruise and needing to book 2 rooms. If someone cancels out of one room can i move the other person into my husband and i room?

Depends on if your cabin is set up for triple guests

Check with the cruise line

If I understand what you're asking, you want to book two rooms for possibly 4 people, but you might go to three and then want to drop a room? It doesn't work on a ship like at a hotel. At all. Once you've made the final payment (on my cruise coming up, final date was July 2 for a cruise in mid September), you are stuck with two rooms. You will be responsible for paying for the FOUR people you made the reservations for. There's no 24 hour cancellation like a hotel. And I've never cancelled after making the deposit, but I don't think you get your (large) deposit back even if you cancel a room before final payment. I'm ready to be corrected, guys.....

NO...you're right....adding a person to a cabin is MUCH more difficult than just booking them there in the 1st place....has to do with muster station capacity.

If you're paying for everyone, consign yourself to paying for 4, even if only 3 sail...keep your privacy and let the third person be alone. Cabins are teeny compared to hotels....really small!

Make sure the deposits are refundable up until final payment. If they are, then you can cancel before final payment (60-90 days before the cruise) and get your deposit back. Quite a few cruise lines are going to non-refundable deposits. You can get most of your deposit and fare back, even after final payment date, or even if it's a non-refundable deposit, if you purchase a cancel-for-any-reason protection plan. I know Holland America has these, but I don't know about other cruise lines.

I agree with the previous poster though, I wouldn't put a 3rd person in a cabin with my spouse and I unless that person was one of our children or maybe an elderly parent.

Also if cancellation of anyone in your party is a real possibility, travel insurance or trip cancellation insurance is a good idea. Heck, its a good idea even if you don't anticipate any issues. We buy from the insurance providers not the cruiseline for the other benefits available but you can buy from the cruiseline. Look into it. Might be very helpful.

The answer is a big maybe. It depends on a number of factors including when it occurs in relation to the date of final payment (why move them if you are not going to save any money?), does the remaining cabin have enough bed space? Can that are of the ship accommodate another passenger?

As others have suggested, it may not be a simple matter to move people around. There are a lot of guidelines and restrictions regarding changing a reservation that will influence what changes you can make and when you can make them.

Not sure how you are planning to book this, but my suggestion is to not do this on your own with an on line booking. I would suggest working with a cruise specialist travel agent with a live person you can talk to, or similarly with a representative with your cruise line - especially as this is your first cruise. Too much you may not know or realize with your first time to rely on an on line process on your own. Talk with an experienced person.
