DeweysGirl Posted August 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 12, 2018 Apologies in advance, quick question and hoping for a nice answer. If you have sailed Paradise after dry dock can you tell me where the outside smoking area is? I checked the Carnival website and it says Deck 10 midship but I find that hard to believe as that is by the food and bar area. DH enjoys an occasional cigar, especially on vacation, so just want to find out where the smoking area is located. Thank you!

I checked the Carnival website and it says Deck 10 midship but I find that hard to believe as that is by the food and bar area. DH enjoys an occasional cigar, especially on vacation, so just want to find out where the smoking area is located. Thank you! That is exactly where it was pre-dry dock. It was a good location as I didn't feel smoke was in my face as I walked by on that side. The bar on that side was smoking as well. If as said on your first reply that it is on deck 11.. that will be interesting. All sun, no shade... that will cause folks to smoke in the casino... and increase the level of smoke indoors. Unless that area on 11 is covered.. I have no idea - as I have not seen it.
Rare Jamman54 Posted August 12, 2018 #4 Share Posted August 12, 2018 I knew I had a picture somewhere. This is the outside smoking area on the Paradise. Deck 11 forward, starboard side.

SNJCruisers Posted August 12, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 12, 2018 Was wonderful when she was a non smoking ship Obviously the bean counters determined that a non smoking ship in the fleet did not bring in the revenue that a normal ship would generate. Those who smoke also more often than not also gamble and drink, which are the big profit centers onboard.
Rare BlerkOne Posted August 12, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 12, 2018 Smokers are a small minority and don't generate the revenue that they think they do. With the Drinks On Us program, alcohol doesn't factor much into the equation, either. Being entirely non-smoking was hard on the crew. The ship made money, just not the return the bean counters were looking for. Unfortunately, non-smoking Paradise was ahead of the curve. The results would be different today. But smoking or not is a Carnival decision.
cruzincat50 Posted August 12, 2018 #9 Share Posted August 12, 2018 My understanding is that it cut into the large group bookings, because there were too many potential groups that would always have a few smokers. We were fortunate to cruise on Paradise in its inaugural year, when it had no smoking. I wish they would bring it back and give us the option again. Djptcp Posted August 12, 2018 #10 Share Posted August 12, 2018 So stop already with the snarky smoking remarks. The OP asked a simple question and expected a nice simple answer which was given. By the way, the section on Deck 11 is covered as you can see by the picture (to the left of the yellow umbrellas). We sat there on our Cuba cruise and there was plenty of shade. Don Kehote Posted August 12, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 12, 2018 It kind of stinks that they make it hard to get a drink to go with it.

There are many more drinkers on board than gamblers and if you don't think the bars generate a hell of a lot of revenue for the various cruise lines, then you are naive. Out of curiosity, which of the previous 8 posts between yours and the OP's had a snarky smoking remark? Since you sat in the deck 11 area on your Cuba cruise, it's obvious you're a smoker. Sure, and there are a lot more non-smoking drinkers than there are smoking drinkers. Smokers are a small percentage of total cruisers and certainly don't account for the majority of on board spend. Smokers who are significant gamblers are likely recipients of a DOU card, so won't spend much on drinks. If they aren't significant gamblers, there goes that theory about how valuable they are.
