GA Dave Posted August 22, 2018 #301 Share Posted August 22, 2018 Sunset bar for a drink at night or coffee and a pastry in the morning Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I was just reviewing your report again and realized that I have never seen a menu for the Sunset Bar on any of the CC reviews/trip reports. Do they just use the "generic" Top Sail menu, or do they serve anything unique?
Rare BostonGal35 Posted August 22, 2018 #302 Share Posted August 22, 2018 Trying hard to remember after having several... It was definitely not all made up ahead in a large glass jar like the drinks at the pool bar and atrium. It was put together in front of me but they had some containers of something mixed ahead for each flavor. For example, the watermelon margarita had a plastic jug of watermelon mix used to add to the tequila and lime juice. yeah, the glass jar drinks are just gross. i have found that a good bartender will make a drink fresh if you ask (and grease them a few bucks!). id love to try some of the margaritas tho, and in all my ncl cruises we've never done the mojito bar either (at least for mojitos!). i_luv2go Posted August 23, 2018 #306 Share Posted August 23, 2018 Do you remember the charge & is this something we would need to reserve upon embarking or can we pre-book these cabanas? Also, are you able to have massages at your cabana and what is included in the rental?i haven't cruised since 2015, I didn't see any mention of placing your luggage in the hallway by a certain time the night before; is this still the process? We are 2 disable ladies, you mention in order to get good seats at the Illussion show to get in line 45 mins to hour ahead, it's impossible for us to stand that long. What do you recommend? Any recommendations for a massage in any of the ports? Any particular favorite shops to visit while in any of the ports? We will be on the New Years Eve cruise; I'm assuming there will be a NYE party of some sort. Other than the "white" party, were there any other theme parties? I enjoyed your post and appreciate the time you took from your vacation to update us! I'm sure I'll be rereading them multi times before we depart. Thanks in advance for any answers and recommendations! Yes. You can rent deluxe beach cabanas or no-do-deluxe pool cabana for the day.
kirsty_r Posted August 23, 2018 #307 Share Posted August 23, 2018 In terms of luggage I can’t remember there been a set time just to leave it outside as you go to bed. They patrol the corridors all night. There are usually disabled seats in the theatre if you need those? Ask once onboard. MrmrsSteelman Posted August 23, 2018 #308 Share Posted August 23, 2018 I was browsing the dailies to try to plan what shows we want to see on which nights, and maybe I’m blind..but I’m not see the Million dollar Quartet listed. Is that only on certain nights...or does it play every night?

Post #10 has a summary of bookable shows https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=56768488&postcount=10 Burn the Floor preforms on twice each night on Monday and Tuesday. MDQ preforms twice each night on Thursday and Friday. They have to reset the theater for each show. By the numbers... Each of the main shows preform four times (twice each night). The theater holds 800 passengers. Total seats available for each show is 4 performances x 800 seats = 3200 available seats Last week, the Getaway sailed with 4500 passengers

Rare BirdTravels Posted August 23, 2018 Author #312 Share Posted August 23, 2018 Great review! I noticed that the menu in the dining room doesn't seem to change much. I am fairly new to NCL cruising, and most of the lines I have sailed on has a different menu each night in the MDRs. Am I just looking at the same menu over and over, or do they not change from night to night? The bottom of Page 1 of each menu are "classic entrees" served every night. So, there is always a steak, chicken, fish, and pasta dish. For some people, they will order the NY Strip steak every night and be happy. Page 2 of the menu are the specials of the night. And you will still see some sort of beef, chicken, fish, and vegetarian dish each night (trying to accommodate all tastes and dietary restrictions). The top of Page 1 are appetizers which are a mix of specials of the day and repeats.
Rare BirdTravels Posted August 23, 2018 Author #313 Share Posted August 23, 2018 How do you find out how many people are booked on your cruise? You can't. Sometimes the cruise director will through out a number. I always ask. Last week, the Getaway (capacity 3963) had 4500ish passengers In June, on our Bliss (capacity 4002), we had 4700ish passenger They use to post guest counts and demographics in the galley, but I have not seen that in several months. GA Dave Posted August 23, 2018 #316 Share Posted August 23, 2018 ill never understand what capacity is if the actual on board is always over capacity... I believe that "capacity" is based on two people per cabin, regardless of size. Since many cabins, such as DOS, OS, 2-bedroom, etc., can hold more than two, you get more than the capacity number on many cruises. Kind of like my Chevy Cavalier I used to own had a capacity of four, but I had as many as seven in there once. :)

bigreckster Posted August 23, 2018 #319 Share Posted August 23, 2018 We have been on over 40 cruises,,,most recent years on Celebrity out of PR to southern Carib. and are now looking forward to the Getaway in the Haven in Jan. Thanks so much for your fantastic review with all its detailed info. concerning dining menus and ship amenities, etc. We were hesitant about booking on a ship this size but look forward to a "new" experience" and esp ecially the entertainment shows on this ship... we're not as concerned about the ports of call as the escape from our cold NJ weather in January! Great job and thanks for all the time and effort you put into this review!!!:D
mickeyfreak9 Posted August 23, 2018 #320 Share Posted August 23, 2018 they told me you couldnt upgrade free at sea and would have to buy a new plan. We used the value of our Free at Sea 250 minutes and Latitudes 60 minutes as credit toward the premium unlimited. Great job and thanks for all the time and effort you put into this review!!!:D You will love the Haven. We sail in the Haven or suites about 1/3 the time (can 't do it every cruise). The "big ship" becomes smaller when you are in the Haven. For the Million Dollar Quartet and Burn the Floor, there is dedicated Haven seating in the theater (which you can use or not use - we normally get seats front and center). For the Cirque show, the concierge staff will escort you show room using a crew elevator and seat you front and center before general admission starts. The concierge staff will help you with any reservations and your butler will ensure that you are well taken care of. Enjoy!

So if you look at the first bullet under "Fine Print" at the bottom of the image you quoted above, it tells you that you can. We sail multiple times a year and have upgraded on every cruise. david_sobe Posted August 25, 2018 #323 Share Posted August 25, 2018 Not sure how I missed this review before. Fantastic as usual. Getaway is a great ship. However its my least favorite NCL ship that I have sailed. I sailed her when she was new and I was expecting bells and whistles. IMHO the Breakaway class ships suffered from creativity because of Epic. The pendulum swung too far the other way and the ships are way too conservative. The waterpark and waterfront are excellent and superior to so many other ships. But all other areas of the ship are a downgrade from Epic or other ships. The spa, gym, nightclub, and restaurants are so much smaller and crammed. IMHO NCL was afraid to think outside the box because of the backlash of Epic. Thus you have a micro Haven, spa, gym, and other venues compared to its predecessor. I thought the ship was meh. Its still a great ship but for its young age pretty conservative and boring. It was meant to be that way making sure the cabins were not curved but square again and everything was "normal" again. For the right price I would sail her again but not in the Haven. The Haven is half the size of Epic. The Haven restaurant is so tiny with picture windows only on one tiny wall. No water features on Haven sundeck either. Its almost an afterthought compared to Epic.
