Colin313 Posted August 16, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Are there any smoking areas near the main pool/Waves Bar on the Bliss? On the Getaway there’s a closed off area across from the Waves pool bar and main pool which we called the “Box” but is there anything like that on the Bliss? The only smoking areas are a tiny part of Spice H20 (gotta walk outside in the rain to get there), the cigar lounge on deck 8 (entrance is outside from the waterfront) or the enclosed smoking area of the casino for active gamblers. And a smoking area outside for Haven guests.

LOVEMYMO Posted August 16, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 16, 2018 This is what I don't get. On NCL's website the smoking policy clearly states that on ships with "The Waterfront" smoking is allowed - yet the Bliss and Escape it is not??? Who makes this decision to make smoking off limits at this location on both of these ships? The Captain? Whomever it is, obviously they are unaware of the posted policy that is on NCL's website. What about smoking on the ship? As the health and well-being of our guests and crew is of the utmost importance, Norwegian Cruise Line will institute changes to its smoking policy for all sailings on or after November 1, 2014. The specific changes prohibit smoking on stateroom balconies and limit smoking in the casino to players. On Norwegian Getaway and Norwegian Breakaway, smoking on The Waterfront will be permitted on the starboard side, except by the outdoor dining areas. Guests in the Garden Villas may smoke in their private garden and on their private sun decks. Public areas throughout all our ships are smoke-free. If you smoke regular or electronic cigarettes, you can do so in designated areas only. If you prefer pipes or cigars, you can smoke in the Cigar Bar or designated smoking lounge. Smoking cigarettes, electronic cigarettes, cigars and pipes is permitted in outdoor public guest spaces and open decks where designated by the ship's management based on the ship's specific characteristics and arrangement. Smoking, including electronic cigarettes, is prohibited in or near venues serving food, the jogging track, outdoor sporting venues, The Haven outdoor areas and children's pool areas. On ships with The Waterfront, smoking is permitted on the starboard side excluding any food service areas. Active Casino players may smoke cigarettes in the Casino during gaming hours. Cigarette smoking is not permitted in any other indoor venue or location. Guests are not permitted to smoke cigarettes, e-cigarettes, cigars or pipes in their staterooms or on their balconies. Cigar and pipe smoking in staterooms and on balconies is prohibited. Smoking inside your stateroom or on your balcony will result in a $250 USD cleaning charge added to your onboard account. If cigarette burns on furniture, linens, towels or carpeting are detected; guests will be advised and charged for the damages. Electronic cigarettes cannot be used in public areas where there is a No Smoking policy in force; simply because these cigarettes look so realistic and therefore other guests' perception is that we are not enforcing the No Smoking rule. Rare BirdTravels Posted August 16, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Here’s the written policy from the Bliss which fixes the problems on other ships. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
LOVEMYMO Posted August 16, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Thanks for posting that. However, that looks like what appears in the Daily on the ship - no? The policy I posted is from NCL's website. So again, the Bliss and the Escape are making their own restrictions.

Two Wheels Only Posted August 16, 2018 #11 Share Posted August 16, 2018 Thanks for posting that. However, that looks like what appears in the Daily on the ship - no? The policy I posted is from NCL's website. So again, the Bliss and the Escape are making their own restrictions. What is posted on the website was written before Bliss and Escape were built. The website specifically lists Breakaway and Getaway Waterfront but doesn't list Escape nor Bliss Waterfront (same for Joy and Encore, I suppose). It's like the "long pants in one MDR" from the website. It doesn't apply to every ship just as the smoking on the Waterfront doesn't apply to every ship. CleverFirst Posted August 16, 2018 #13 Share Posted August 16, 2018 I'm sure they'll have no problems with people smoking on their balconies with all of these easy to use and inclusive smoking venues.
welove2cruise2014 Posted August 16, 2018 #14 Share Posted August 16, 2018 If everyone who threatened to not cruise NCL or certain of their ships because they aren't happy with the smoking areas actually followed through with that, this would no longer be an issue as the ships would be full of nothing but non-smokers [emoji23] Sent from my SM-G930T using Forums mobile app 2

They are fixing the problems on the BA and GA by moving the smokers into closed rooms and as far aft as possible. Skazel Posted August 18, 2018 #17 Share Posted August 18, 2018 I'm pretty sure that every "The Waterfront" area on the Bliss has a food service area. So according to their policy where smoking is excluded from "The Waterfront" where food service is offered is exactly what they are doing.

If you're on the generous side of what is "food service" and how far it extends, I'd agree with you. You can argue about the bars and how far food service extends and carve out a few feet here and there. But, as it's all open and connected, that wouldn't really make sense. To be simple, the Waterfront on the Bliss does look to be basically all food service areas and thus it does match the printed policy online. TFLG Posted August 19, 2018 #21 Share Posted August 19, 2018 That’s a big pain. I wonder how many complaints NCL has gotten so far. With the vast majority of the North American population being non-smokers, I bet not nearly as many complaints as they get "thank yous". I like a stogie now and then but even so I still prefer a smoke free ship. It's one of the reasons I like Celebrity, there's no smoking anywhere inside and only a couple of spots outside.

funtimes88 Posted February 14, 2019 #23 Share Posted February 14, 2019 I am so glad the Bliss does not have any areas for smoking that will bother the cruising folks. I have taken a cruise on The Bliss two times last summer to Alaska. The ship is so beautiful. In fact I have a repositioning cruise on The Bliss in April 2020 from New York, back to Seattle. I just live a ferry ride across Puget Sound to get home. I just returned from a cruise on The Breakaway, a ship of that class that has an "enclosed glass room" for smoking right next to the pool, and at some places in the casino area. It was awful even having to walk through that area. The Bliss does have a glassed in room for smokers in the casino "with door shut," so there is no smell. At the pool area, I found it very disgusting to walk by, see all those folks smoking, even pipes and cigars. They even stand at the entrance to this glass room with door opened and blow the smoke outside into the pool area. I could be sitting 50 feet down on a lounge, and could smell the smoke and inhaled it. It is just awful. I will be only cruising in The Bliss class from now on, I learned that on The Breakaway. Thank goodness so many complaints were made, that NCL changed this policy. Looking forward to more Alaska trips out of Seattle the on The Bliss this coming summer. TheTruth79 Posted February 14, 2019 #24 Share Posted February 14, 2019 It's so funny to see all these posts about how there shouldn't be smoking on ships. The original question's purpose was to know where to smoke as to not bother others. Thanks for all the opinions, although no one asked.. funtimes88 Posted February 14, 2019 #25 Share Posted February 14, 2019 Folks were commenting on the smoking policies, and not liking this activity. I just posted my opinion about the new class of ships, including The Bliss, that no smoking in public areas so you are not presented with the smell, inhaling it, and getting sick. Maybe if you had a husband or wife that died of lung cancer you would feel different.
