I think you'll fine more similarities than differences honestly.

I think the main difference will be going from Oasis class down to a smaller ship (granted, we have a similar-sized booked for Alaska before sailing Carnival). Also, I'm excited for all the different food choices. Eeeee.

HMC a super nice beach, much nicer then Coco Cay.

We are Diamond on RCL, Plat. on Carnival, both lines have their strengths and weaknesses, RCL is about the ship, Carnival's about the port! We like the food more on Carnival, the show entertainment more on the bigger RCL ships! If you're into it, Carnival is more about having fun on the ship, less restrictive feeling, while RCL felt like we were at the downtown mall!

You'll have a good time if you want to on either!

Thank you for the comparison! I really appreciate it. Frankly, the reason we chose Carnival/the Sunrise is because it will be (I think) the ship with the newest/most amenities offering an itinerary to Cuba that we want. RCL is currently sailing the Empress (no balconies!) and Majesty (ooooold, at least to us - and much more expensive than Sunrise)... which neither appealed to us. I have heard fantastic things about Guy’s Burgers, Blue Iguana, etc., and hubby is big on the food, so Sunrise it is. There was another itinerary to Cuba offered on Sunrise that was a bit cheaper (and by “a bit” I mean $50 total), but it was Nassau instead of HMC... and we’re not personally Nassau people. So, this seems to have worked out very well. Especially with the price. I’ve no idea why this cruise is so cheap (compared to other line’s Cuba sailings), but I’m glad it is! [emoji4]

One reason is Royal gives out a lot more 'free cruises' in their casino club, vs Carnival. We were members of RCL's club royale, and on one cruise there were over 450 members on a comped/free Allure cruise! Have heard they cut back, but those huge floating shopping malls with Broadway shows cost a lot of money!

Another is Carnival spends a less on the ship, and more on the workers, yep, met many who went from RCL to Carnival, better money, better treatment, which we felt was passed on to us! Some here will disagree, but overall we feel the workers are happier on Carnival!

Hey everyone! We have booked our first Carnival cruise as well. We have always sailed with Princess in the past. I had a question that I’m hoping someone might be able to answer.

In previous cruises we have always done early dining. Hubby and I prefer to eat at 6. This time we are waitlisted for the early dining and confirmed for the late dining. If we can not have the early dining, then we would prefer to switch to anytime.

So, my question... do you know if when we board, we can go and change our dining and where we do that? On Princess, the Maitre D would be available in one of the restaurants to discuss and make dining changes.

Sorry for the long post, thanks for any info you have!

The first time we took our kids on Carnival we were wait listed for both Early & Anytime dining, and with 2 kids under 7, late seating was less than awesome ;) If I remember correctly DH emailed the Maitre D' with an explanation as to why we wanted an earlier dining time... we never heard back from the Maitre D' but we did end up with Early dining... I don't recall the email address he used, but our back up plan had we arrived on board with late dining was to go directly to the Maitre D' and request a change, so I'm sure you could ask.
