2Oldpeopleinlove Posted September 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 3, 2018 hi. I just bid the lowest possible number on an upgrade after five separate solicitations from NCL on a cruise beginning this Friday. Does bidding that low ever work? FLcruisergrl Posted September 3, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 3, 2018 Yep. It just all depends upon their inventory, other bids, and a whole host of stuff we don’t know.
Rare BirdTravels Posted September 3, 2018 #3 Share Posted September 3, 2018 If you are bidding on a balcony, a poor bid would have had a better chance 70 days ago,,, giving them more times to make assignments. If you are bidding on a Suite, many of those assignments would have been made today. With any remaining rooms on Wednesday. And the poorest and poor bids would have a very low potential of winning, no matter when it is made.

2Oldpeopleinlove Posted September 4, 2018 Author #5 Share Posted September 4, 2018 We're in a balcony bidding on an aft penthouse suite, sooo. Thanks for the good wishes! We'll be happy either way it goes.
VillaHappy Posted September 4, 2018 #6 Share Posted September 4, 2018 We are sailing on the Dawn this Friday. We're in an oceanview, hoping for a balcony. Our bid was made just after we received the first email. Our bid landed in the middle of the fair range. No response yet. A few others on the same cruise received a response weeks ago! I just don't get it!

I just don't get it! Maybe they were waiting for us to vacate our balcony for you. It's a good one: quiet midship. If so, your bid could help us by getting them to accept ours! maryinFL Posted September 4, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 4, 2018 Last week I won a Haven Courtyard Penthouse Balcony for a very poor bid, $10 over the minimum. Bid around midnight and notified the next afternoon, cruising in 2 weeks.

njkate Posted September 4, 2018 #10 Share Posted September 4, 2018 Yep. It just all depends upon their inventory, other bids, and a whole host of stuff we don’t know. Exactly, best answer so far. I bid $100 over the minimum for a 2 bedroom Haven from a mini suite. I bid when I first received the invite and was notified 6 weeks before sailing. This was on the 08/18/18 Baltic cruise on the Breakaway. There are many on here who think they are experts on the bidding process, truth is what FLcruisergrl said, we don't know, some high bidders never win, some low bidders do. In any event wishing you luck on winning and enjoy your cruise.

On the same cruise I was speaking with a woman in the casino who mentioned she tried to get a balcony (from OV) with a $100.00 bid but it was not accepted. So my $50.00 bid was accepted and her $100.00 bid for the same cabin was not. There is definitely more that goes into their acceptance process then just money. Good Luck! lisakoivu Posted September 6, 2018 #12 Share Posted September 6, 2018 Went from inside to SPA balcony for $75 pp. During Canadian March Break from New York, which is a busy sailing. Bid around January. Good luck!
jkneern Posted September 6, 2018 #13 Share Posted September 6, 2018 I think it may also depend on what you paid originally? We booked a gty sail away OV and were assigned a cabin with a listed price of more than double. Great for us because it is a great cabin but still bid on upgrades too. Will wait and see..... I think a lot depends on what you originally. Paid, what room you’re giving up and how valuable it is, etc. If they can resale your room for x + your bid of $50/person and that is more than y + her bid of $100/person... then they are better off accepting yours and selling your old room. Does bidding that low ever work? Well, my $100 bid for a cruise this Saturday did NOT work ... but maybe it happens for some. I didn't really expect it to work ... but it was all I was willing to spend.

Our bid was made just after we received the first email. Our bid landed in the middle of the fair range. No response yet. A few others on the same cruise received a response weeks ago! I just don't get it! No news is good news but our experience with bidding, especially the smaller ships, it doesn't go as well. Seems the mega ships are more inclined to accept middle of the road bids. I guess it has to do with size and demand. We have tried twice on the Dawn and never had our bid accepted. We do know a couple of people that did get upgraded on our last Dawn sailing. I will add, we didn't hear, in either case until the last possible day. thndrcat Posted September 7, 2018 #17 Share Posted September 7, 2018 I give up trying to understand the bidding award process, we are 50 days out from our cruise. couple we are travelling with (both booked insides) bid less then I did for a balcony upgrade and awarded an aft balcony yesterday. I haven't heard anything yet but fingers crossed still

fvalanzola@gmail.com Posted September 7, 2018 #19 Share Posted September 7, 2018 We placed two Haven bids for our Escape sailing in November. Both show multiple available suites left. Regardless of how much information is provided about what cabin someone had, what they bid, & what they got (or didn't get), no one here has a clue about how the decision is made. I just don't get it! Just saw the Dawn pulling back into Boston from my kitchen window. Did you guys have to turn around due to the Hurricane Florence? Hopefully they can at least substitute out a New England port so you don't have to leave the ship early. Good luck and hopefully everyone is still enjoying themselves :)
