Expat Cruise Posted September 20, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 20, 2018 I been in Australia several times over the last few years. The high season is AU Summer. Australia's seasons are . December to February is summer; March to May is autumn; June to August is winter; and September to November is spring. Rain fall really depends upon where you are in the country, in Darwin Jan to March is the most rain. In Melbourne Oct / Nov, is the two highest rain months. When looking at Australia from the United States another factor to add in is air travel time. In general it takes two calendar days to get here and a full day to go home . Most people would want to come in the day before the cruise and spent at least one night in a hotel before boarding. Then you need to pick what type of cruise, Australia only, Australia & New Zealand , or a cruise to or from Australia. Most cruise lines have ships traveling from SE Asia to Australia to start the peak season and then back to SE Asia at the end of the peak season. Ozwidget Posted September 20, 2018 #5 Share Posted September 20, 2018 It may also be useful for you to know that school holidays here are the last couple of weeks of December and the whole of January. Sent from my iPad using Forums

SinbadThePorter Posted September 20, 2018 #7 Share Posted September 20, 2018 I’m from the USA and looking at my next next cruise to the areas. Got a couple questions, and looking for answers. When is the best time to go? Which cruise lines cruise the area? Best time for NZ is Dec-Mar. Best time for southern Australia is Oct-Apr. Best time for northern Australia is May-Sept. Since those don't match up, most people compromise by going to NZ at the best time and just taking the weather as it comes in Australia. Most of the biggies cruise here, but some of their ships are of an older vintage. This time of year (Sept/Oct) is when a number of ships reposition from Alaska to Australia/NZ via Hawaii.
