Also where has Capt Henrik Loy landed.  He was supposed to have returned to Ovation or perhaps not since he has been on since 2016.

It was rumored that Capt Charles Teige was the other captain assigned to Wonder. As for Capt Loy, won't know until someone posts here that he was master on their sailing.

He is real tall and his name is Henrik W Loy.  He speaks slow and very Norwegian.

Make sure you go to his captain quarters as well.

yes he is a very humble person and when answering questions, he goes into detail.

There is a you tube video from May 2019 that Derek Picone did with Henrik in his office on the ship.

 

Now that Henrik after 6 yrs(including shutdown) has moved to new class of ship, I am now thinking soon Captain Johnny might move from Harmony or retire.  RCI likes to move the captains every 4-5 years.  In fact, I thought Captain H Loy would go to Harmony and Captain Johnny would go to Wonder (his 4th Oasis). 

But then again, Captain Loy took Ovation to China through Suez canal and spent time over there and then Australia.  I wonder if he was already assigned to the Wonder OTS last year when the ship was suppose to go to China. 

Should be interesting to see Wonder in Port Canaveral in early November.  

And it should be interesting to see who gets Utopia and Icon.  I think it is quite competitive amongst all the navigational officers throughout the fleet.  To get a new ship means you are well liked.

Captain Henrik Loy was the Captain on Ovation of the Seas in New Zealand in 2019 when the Whakaari / White Island incident occurred. He was a wonderful communicator at extremely difficult times, and was in touch with the New Zealand Prime Minister. It was a tough time onboard and he balanced frequent and informed communication [with much that could not initially not be said until facts were determined] with the need to continue the cruise and return the ship to Sydney. There were 3 different options proposed before a final solution was determined. Joff Eaton was Cruise Director and kept the ship "running" as best as possible in those sobering days.

We boarded Wonder of the Seas April 20. Our Master is Henrik Loy. Very impressed with his professionalism snd friendliness. We skipped Nassau to get ahead of a huge storm system. It was rocky for a bit but it’s Day 4 of 14 and it’s lovely outside!

well have a nice time on Wonder.  I got off her on 15th and I had Capt. Rob.  I am thinking Capt. Loy got on for the 5 day before the hand over.  He was master on my Ovation May 2019 first cruise in USA port.

He gives good captain talks and tries to give very complete answers.  I like the cruise director Mike as well.  He actually can skate and comes out at the end of the ice show.

 

Lots of ships heading over to Europe like the Edge left yesterday and Odyssey OTS leaving for Europe today.

I notice Wonder OTS is taking a more southern route so perhaps you will have less movement.

The Edge is in a more northern route.

 

Enjoy all the shows especially ice show and the show called voices.

And I suggest only doing Johnny Rockets for free breakfast as their burger and shakes are a bit lousy and tasteless IMHO.

yes there is a video on you tube with his voice when they were still in port I think the day after it happened.  He very kindly ask all to be back on board by 7pm.  I got the feeling he did not want folks out in bars and restaurants at night chatting about the incident.  Some one in port said when it happened they noticed a couple of hours later they could see him pacing back and forth on the bridge for several hours.  That was such an unfortunate thing to happen. and then when he went home and came back, he had only been back a week I think and the world shut down.

Someone posted a video voice of him telling the passengers that they needed to cut short the trip and return to Sydney.  His voice was cracking just a bit and he said in a tone that was so real "we will miss you but be back soon"

 

So many captains on various lines but a few are memorable and he is one of them just like Johnny, and the original Oasis Captain Wright and now I think Capt Rob Hempstead too since he is American born.

Captain Loy took over April 20th for the TA. He had been onboard two weeks already. He is so nice and we sprint time with him yesterday. He’s excited about being on Wonder. We are having a great TA.

oh lucky you how did that happen?  I guess I did not realize he was on for my cruise but they have to isolate too.  Then again most captains do a overlap cruise too.

He did an interview back in 2019 where he said he was happy on Ovation and could stay there forever. But who can turn down Wonder - An Oasis class.

Are the officers still wearing masks around the ship? Captain Rob did not when posing for photos ate his chat.

glad to see the weather turned out better.  My goodness 10 days from FLA until first port.  I would go stir crazy.

Johnny is still on board this week. Not sure when he is scheduled for vacation.
