Rare boards Posted October 5, 2018 #26 Share Posted October 5, 2018 How much do you tip for breakfast? Does it differ with the size of the order?
regnig Posted October 5, 2018 #27 Share Posted October 5, 2018 (edited) I will most likely have excess non refundable OBC on my upcoming cruise.Does room service come with a receipt like the bar, so the tip can be added there or do I need a stack on 1$ bills? If your question implies you would like to use some of your OBC for tips you can certainly do that. Go down to the casino and use one of the gaming machines to get cash from your stateroom account (several threads on HAL CC with directions). If the cage doesn't have the small bills you need/want a quick trip to the purser's desk will take care of you. Once you get that cash feel free to use glue, staples or whatever. I personally leave mine on the table, pick it up before opening the door and then handing it to the server as soon as he sets the tray down. ADDED - We always tip $2 for an order of just coffee and tea. Edited October 5, 2018 by regnig added comment
hal lover Posted October 5, 2018 #28 Share Posted October 5, 2018 Magnet. Back of door, not hand. Why have I never thought of this? THANKS for sharing a great idea!
drowelf Posted October 5, 2018 #29 Share Posted October 5, 2018 Magnet. Back of door, not hand. Yep, thats one of our methods too. We always bring about 1/2 dozen magnetic chip clips. 3 or so are used to keep the drapes shut so that no light peeks in the gaps between them in the morning. The others are attached to handle places to hold odds and ends, like tip cash for the morning or upcoming tour information/tickets for the next day. SeaBands Posted October 6, 2018 #31 Share Posted October 6, 2018 I have always had trouble getting enough singles from the front office. Next cruise I'll bring 50 with me for 21 days.

I have never had a problem getting whatever denomination of currency from the Front Office. But, with regard to dollar bills, I am one who brings what I think will be sufficient for my cruise, just in case.

It was only a few dollars, so no biggie, but HAL seems to have different rules for each ship on this issue, as in the past they let it go through. It was only a few dollars, so no biggie, but HAL seems to have different rules for each ship on this issue, as in the past they let it go through. While this has been pretty reliable method to get cash in the past, it seems like HAL has finally gotten wise and enhanced their accounting software to better handle tracking of charges and the applicability to OBC vs non-OBC.
