Just some information for those of you with acid reflux disease and the use of straws: Using the straws will add to your discomfort.

I agree!  I have GERD and was always told to avoid straws by my doctor (not that I listened lol.)  That said, I think some people just need to justify that they are going to do whatever they want to do.  If people really were worried about their GERD, they wouldn't drink alcohol or soda, or even many juices!  😉

Change is hard for alot of people, I get it.  But for a community like ours that gets so much joy and happiness from the world's oceans, I think the least we can do is suck it up (pun intended!) and give up the plastic straws.

No straws on Getaway on September Caribbean cruise. Made for a very messy mudslide"

No straws on the Getaway on 10/7 or 10/14/18 either and I had the same "messy" experience with Pina Coladas all week.  Despite having brought along some of my own paper straws....I never seemed to have them in the right purse/bag when I needed them!

Last week on Gem...saw no straws..asked at Casino bar ..he said its been months without.  2 days later was at atrium bar..and they had paper straws.  So seems they just got them and I guess not all bars did not stock them yet. !

This really sucks. My honeymoon is booked on the Breakaway. I may consider canceling and going with RCI. The problem with bringing our own straws is that we don’t have a place to put them to carry them on us! And we do love piña coladas and other drinks that are a mess without a straw.

Don't plan on RCI, as they have eliminated plastic straws as well.

Just off the Sun this morning and paper straws were available.   We got them in the champagne bar and the atrium when frozen drinks were ordered.  Can’t speak for other bars on the ship.  Also saw them in Four Seasons.

We were just on the Jade and some bars refused to give us straws and other bars used paper ones. I don’t typically use a straw, and find the paper ones get really soggy in frozen, blended drinks.

My mother is an oral cancer survivor & can only drink with a straw, so she bought reusable straws & always carries one with her.

Does anyone recently off Breakaway recall if they have the paper straws yet?

I was on BA late August, no straws, we had brought our own.

Maybe someone who was on recently can update

You or your significant other doesn't carry a purse, even a small one?

I brought wrapped straws with me and would just stick a bunch in my purse

Why would this be a sarcastic post? The word is that NCL is in the process of stocking all of their ships with paper straws and I would like to know if in our case the Breakaway has them yet as we will be on her in just over a month. I sure that there are many others that share my concern for their upcoming cruises. If you are not interested and your aim is to troll find some other straw thread to troll on.

Some just can't help themselves, I just scroll on and ignore them 🙂

Neither of us carry any type of bag if we’re lounging around and relaxing, no. It’s yet another thing to worry about (losing it). Maybe for this trip, we may need to just bring a cheapo, ugly bag that nobody would want to steal anyway and just put straws in it. We’ll make it work, but NCL is making work for us.

This topic is very divisive. Honestly, I think it’s absolutely reasonable to expect straws with frozen drinks and “thick” drinks, like Bloody Mary’s. Don’t forget non alcoholic offerings, too, such as milk shakes and smoothies. And if people think I’m high maintenance and a bad person because I expect to have a straws for these kinds of drinks, so be it. LOL

No, not high maintenance at all!!

I also like a straw with frozen drinks, thick drinks and if it's paper and I have to change it out once or twice due to getting soggy that's fine

Thank you.  I think the moderators stepped in and got rid of most of them.  It has been fairly civil for a while with a meaningful exchange between people who are sharing information on the ships that currently do or do not have straws.  Unfortunately the ship we are going on next week, the Breakaway, does not appear to have straws.  I am sure I will be making a lot of new friends as we will be bringing 3 or 4 bags of the inexpensive ones you can get at Dollar Tree or one of the other dollar stores.

LOL you think straws are bad?? Yikes lord help anyone asking where on a ship smoking is permitted!!! Again a legitimate question from people who want to stay within the rules on a ship and just end up getting lectured like they were two year olds

Lets get rid of those pesky plastic straws, but have plenty of plastic water bottles, Can't make this stuff up

You are missing the point. Turtles, fish, etc. eat the plastic straws that make their way to the ocean and and are responsible for killing many turtles. It's a great ecological move.
