azalice Posted October 21, 2018 #1 Share Posted October 21, 2018 I am trying to find out approximate size of “small group” excursions on Celebrity. What is your experience with that wording? Do they cut back to 25 people or 15 or ?? It is a tour at Pompeii that I am considering. Thanks for your help.
Rare Jim_Iain Posted October 21, 2018 #2 Share Posted October 21, 2018 I believe it varies by tour but the ones I have been on use Mini-Busses and have a capacity of about 20 as oppose to 45+ of the big tour busses.
Rare abbydancer2003 Posted October 21, 2018 #3 Share Posted October 21, 2018 We were on one last year called Taste of Sorrento and Pompeii. It was billed as a small group excursion. There were 25 people on a full size bus, with all the shopping stops as the big tours. I emailed Celebrity afterward about how I thought it was misrepresented - ie, more space on a bus isn't really worth paying more for. For example, when we arrived at Pompeii, the guide had to arrange things, so he sent us through about a 25 minute tour of the Cameo store/factory. In Sorrento, we had to listen to a speil about making inlaid wood. The one thing that might have been better is that we did get VR headsets in Pompeii that narrated and showed what life was probably like. I'm not sure the bus tours got that. shofer Posted October 22, 2018 #4 Share Posted October 22, 2018 Book a private tour through RomeCabs or RomeInLimo. Much cheaper and detailed tour than the ship's excursions. We joined a group through our Roll Call and had the same 8 people on all our tours. Sue
Expat Cruise Posted October 22, 2018 #5 Share Posted October 22, 2018 Most private tours use cars or vans so about 10 guests seem to be the limit. Unless they use a bus, which seems to be rare, then it could be 50 guests.
jelayne Posted October 22, 2018 #6 Share Posted October 22, 2018 My DH has done a number of snorkeling or kayaking excursions thru the ship that have been 6-8 people. So in part it depends on the type of excursion.
